Over-priced food - an unbelievable £4.75 for a stodgy, tasteless cheese scone with one pat of hard, cold butter. Only managed to eat half of it, really unpleasant, threw the rest away. The cakes were not covered and crawling with flies. Sandwiches even more over-priced at £8.25 for a small cheese sandwich with white bread. This cafe used to be so much better. Will drive past in future and not stop here.
I can’t review the food because we didn’t stay. We waited for 5 minutes for somebody to even acknowledge us in there! We arrived about 10:45am on Sunday 4 May. There were two other couples in there, both had already been served. There were three servers- all children- one was making drinks, one was at the back and one was wandering around tables. They all saw us and made eye contact but not one of them said ‘sorry, we will be right with you’ which is just basic courtesy in my opinion. After 5 minutes of awkwardly standing there, we left! Maybe this is why it wasn’t busy?!
Very nice meal, polite staff well worth a visit. Its nice to visit in the summer as you can go for a walk along the sea front before heading over there for a sit down meal but it does get busy and they do allow dogs.
Really lovely meal at The White Horse, I had a classic fish and chips and my husband had several dishes from the Tuesday tapas menu, all of which were delicious. Staff were great and the food was very good value, would definitely return :)

The guy who delivered our food was very gentle and sweet, such a wholesome delivery and the food was so good!! That lamb diner and chicken strip wrap is incredible
Since being taken over , this has become a decent little pub to come and have either just a few drinks or to have a bite to eat , pool table decent , all the sports throughout the day , kind staff and overall good experience
I've visited this fish and chips shop many times. Usually I would have given a better rating, but something has changed.
The queue outside is normally fairly long, but the service ensures that it moves quickly. This evening, despite several staff working, everything was slow.
The fish was full of bones which I haven't experienced for a while at any fish and chips shops. I started eating and immediately was pulling bone after bone out of my mouth, and the person I was with (who I'd told how good this place was) was being polite and pulling bones out of their mouth saying "I'm not that hungry, I'll just have a bit"🙄.
To be honest, the chips were greasy.
I'll caveat the above by saying that last year the fish and chips at this place were good, so perhaps just an off-day, but hopefully this isn't a permanent change!
Moving on to Aldeburgh itself.....in years gone by, there was always a strict "No feeding seagulls" to keep the seafront a nice place to eat. The seafront was always tidy. This evening, there was litter all over the place. Wooden forks laying all over the floor, seagulls eating discarded chips on the pavement, empty ketchup sachets thrown on the floor etc. This is unusual for Aldeburgh and hopefully won't become a permanent problem!
Prices at the Golden Galleon - £24 for two medium (small and bony) cod and chips, 2 x cans of Coke, and 2 x sachets of ketchup.
Super friendly staff and delicious meal
Fantastic location and view
Delicious roast dinner made all the more special by the friendly attentive staff.
Bradley made sure we had water and glasses and checked we were happy with our table .
Emily was serving tables for the first time and was absolutely brilliant , friendly and smiling and could not have been more helpful.
It really was service with a smile and it makes such a difference to a meal out when the staff are so friendly and helpful
What wonderful service we had in this fab cafe. We'd walked to Southwold and back, were tired and needed a drink. We kept changing our mind regarding our order but the assistant was so friendly and calm never getting cross or frustrated! She was so helpful and really lovely. We sat outside in the sunshine. There was an art exhibition next door. It was delightful.
