An old favourite from before the pandemic, we chose a family lunch here. Whist it was good to meet up again, the food was disappointing. The roast dinners were provided with too many vegetables, all of which were so hard that none of us could eat them. Carrots, leeks, peas, shredded cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower in a cheese? sauce. We would have preferred fewer, cooked properly. Yorkshire puddings were also hard, overcooked and the roast potatoes were not nice. The desserts were OK, but the lemon tarts had, yes 'soggy bottoms'! We agreed that it was good to see each other but the meal was very disappointing. The staff were welcoming and efficient. Remember to add your car registration to the iPad as you enter to avoid parking fines.

The food here was great if a little over priced. The problem is the parking. The car park is operated by a third party and you can get 3 hours parking by entering your registration on a device at the pub. I don't know how this device works but when I got a £60 fine because I hadn't paid for my parking there I was more than a little surprised. I appealed against the fine but the parking company said that I couldn't provide sufficient proof that I'd been in the pub they were upholding the fine. I hadn't asked for a receipt and paid with cash. When I questioned the Ramsholt Arms I was literally told that "there was nothing they could do about the situation as the car park did not belong to them". By all means try the food here but cycle or maybe ride to the pub and GET A RECEIPT

What a gem!! Stunning pub restaurant on the River Deben, amazing views out over the river. We motored in here from a mooring in the river and had a brilliant meal with delicious beers to go with it. The fire burning, super helpful and knowledgeable staff made for a delightful evening.

Went for a lunch yesterday. Lovely location of course but as it was pretty breezy we went inside. It all looks a bit rundown like it needs a bit of money spent on it. I like my ales so seeing 2 Soham beers I asked for a taster of the light ale - it was very, very off. Like taking a mouthful of Sarsons vinegar. I told the bar manager and he seemed unbothered by this. So I ordered a pint of the other bitter. It appeared to be OK. However, I was still trying to get the vinegar taste out of my mouth and after a little while I realised that the second bitter was on the turn as well. I just left it. Really poor beer-keeping tbh. Menu was very limited, mostly fried, mostly frozen at a guess. My wife's prawns in marie rose sauce was spicy for some reason. My fish and chips was OK but the chips tasted greasy. Small things like the fact that the pepper dispenser was stained and grubby didn't help. I really wanted to love this place but it's a definite no from us. We won't be returning.

We’ve been going to the Ramsholt Arms for years and always love the gorgeous views over the Deben, there’s no place so beautiful on a warm summer evening. Tonight was a rainy cold Wednesday and we sat in the cozy bar watching the sky turn pink over the boats as the sun set, eating mussels, sea bass and fish and chips — all really delicious and well above average for pub food. The service was warm and friendly, and the bill with pints came to about £20 per person. If there’s a nicer way to spend the evening in this part of Suffolk I haven’t yet found it.

Very disappointing visit to The Ramsholt Arms. Our fault for not checking times of food service but as it’s holiday season we wrongly assumed they would serve food all day. Frosty reception for the person at the bar to our enquiry about food so we ordered a drink but they continued to order staff around with table reorganisation for their 5 pm service whilst we were stood there making us feel extremely awkward. We sat outside to admire the view and left within 15 mins. We won’t be returning based on our experience .

We stopped off while sailing from waldringfield. Wanted to go to the ramsholt arms because last time the food was great, and it makes a change from the maybush just up the river. Service was quick and nice, but the food was mediocre; fries were cold, sea bass looked and tasted like it was from frozen, and new potatoes weren't great, burger was small, and bread was missing from 1 dish (although I'm sure they would have brought if we'd said) From past experience and the money charged I would expect more. I might try again next summer if we're passing, but I certainly won't make a special trip there. It's a shame, because such a good job had been done of it before. But nice service and great view!

The view from the pub is stunningly beautiful, and worth a visit just for that. There are plenty of signs advising you to register your vehicle at one of the screens near the bar. The staff were very welcoming and we were given a table without issue and we’d not booked. The place was clean and seating was comfortable. There were more than enough options on the menu to accommodate most eaters and it was reasonably priced at £20 a person for a main and drink. However, the food wasn’t very hot but the batter on the fish was scrumptious. The chips though were not good and none of us ate more than 2 or 3 so a huge letdown!

As mentioned in previous reviews, you need to reguster for free parking. This was VERY clear; signs in the car park and inthe restaurant. We had booked a table and were glad we had, as it was busy. We were seated by the window with a gorgeous view of the river. Our server came to take our order quickly and our food came shortly after that. My husband had fish and chips (which he enjoyed very much) and I had the lasagne (which was rather greasy, but very flavourful). All staff were friendly and efficient. All in all, we had a pleasant meal here and would return.

What a beautiful spot! We walked here along the coast from the nearby Wild Riverside Camping, and the view and setting are absolutely gorgeous. The restaurant seems to be known for the seafood (understandably, given the location), and we'd seen a couple of vegetarian options on the sample menu on the website, but unfortunately there was only one option for the night we were there. The option was red pepper and sun-dried tomato pasta, which arrived in under 5 minutes after we had ordered, and had clearly been either kept warm for a while, or pre-cooked and re-heated. The pasta itself was well overcooked and was falling apart, so was rather disappointing for the £13 per dish it cost, plus the sauce was pretty standard. That said, the guest beer on offer was lovely, and the staff were attentive and welcoming, so I would say we would go again, but not for food.

Just returned from Ramsholt Arms - 6 of us for lunch - early Fathers Day celebration.I have been before and it was good. We decided on Ramsholt as I wanted to show the rest of the family how good it was - we are fans of another pub on the Deben river but I felt Ramsholt had been good on April 19 2021 when I went for first time with friend).Sad to say that although 2 of us had fish & chips and it was as good as I remember but at £15.00 each it should be, 3 had a cheese burger and what a complete waste of money they were. 2 patties, thin, looks like frozen box burgers on a THICK brioche roll - the top part of the roll was so thick it made the thin patties look even thinner. Dry, unappetising to look at and just as unappetising to eat. At the price the burgers were you would think they should be "homemade patties". Also, the website needs to be updated with the increases in price so that people are aware that it is not cheap to have lunch here - if my memory serves me correctly the prices have increased since 19/4/2021. Service was good, view amazing - just sad that the burgers are not worth £8.00 each let alone close to £15.00 each. Social distancing is good, track and trace good.

We sat outside and the staff were very friendly and helpful. They wore their masks outside, which was reassuring, as they had to go in and out all the time. I can think of no better recommendation than spotting a very famous female chef at the next table.....she clearly enjoys it here too!

Prices seemed a bit steep for a fairly basic looking pub so we shared a curry but it was absolutely delicious and we were very happy to enjoy the warmth of the wood burning stove and delicious coffee afterwards. Beautiful views but a slightly echoey room. I’m sure we’ll come again

I visited with my wife for Sunday lunch. The pub is in a great location, tucked out of the way right on the river with a large terrace offering lovely views. From start to finish I must say the service from all the staff was absolutely excellent. They seemed on top of everything and enthusiastic and happy to help.Unfortunately the food did not match the service. I ordered roast beef. I like my beef done medium but was told it was only pink or well done. It came to the table very quickly but was not at all enjoyable. It’s a shame but it spoiled the occasion.

Disappointing lunch! Advised by phone and on the website that I could not reserve, that it was first come first served. We arrived early only to find reserved markers on several tables. But what was even more distressing was that no one requested information for track and trace!

Amazing views of the peaceful river and boats. Outside tables were set at safe distances, our names were listed and we felt confidant the very pleasant staff took the correct precautions. The current menu is limited to fairly basic pub staples (sausages, fish and chips, gammon steak- no steaks etc), but it was well cooked and pleasantly presented: quite expensive for what it was. The batter of the fish and chips was light and crispy and the chips excellent. We would definitely return and I recommend it to others.

Beautiful location, we stopped for a pint and a bite after a lovely hike in the countryside. Very COVID aware and you feel safe. Menu is interesting, if a little pricey. Food very good, service excellent and staff very friendly and welcoming.

After taking a 3 mile walk with the dog we enjoyed a good fish and chip late afternoon meal. They serve good quality pub grub and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Good COVID protocol was observed with only 6 people allowed on a table with sanitizer available as you enter with someone to take names as you enter. The only reason for 4 stars is The men’s toilet could have more regular checks to have paper towel bin emptied more regular to save them going all over the floor, can’t speak for the ladies.

The Ramsholt Arms have adapted to the Covid world very well. The staff are friendly and do their best to make the experience enjoyable and stress free. The menu maybe limited, but there are plenty of options. The Ramsholt Arms is a good pub with a great view. If you are expecting a gastro pub then look elsewhere, if you are after good honest pub food then you are in the right place.

On the plus side the Ramsholt has an enviable location, gorgeous setting right by the river and lots of outdoor space. However the food is overpriced for the quality. For example bread and olive oil or pate starters came with basic cooking oil, which isn’t very nice to eat, and pre made sliced bread. Salt and pepper chilli squid was very good. Main courses are simple but ok - veggie quiche and potatoes was nice enough but quiche was a bit soggy. Kids meals didn’t come with any fresh salad or vegetables which is a big fail. The kids portion of fried fish was vey good, although it would have been vastly improved by a few peas or a bit of salad, but the kids tomato pasta was so salty my child couldn’t eat it. Drinks - we had an Adnams bitter which tasted as if it had been open too long and kept too warm. I’m a big gin and tonic fan and they didn’t have any nice or interesting gins available just the usual same-same, Gordon’s/Bombay etc. Overall although the location is lovely I definitely wouldn’t bother going again.

We met friends here on a hot day and were lucky to get a table in the shade. The bird from the outside tables is stupendous. The service was friendly and highly efficient. We had fish and chips and our friends had ham egg and chips. The fish batter was wonderfully crisp and there was a good filling of fish which was moist and well cooked, not at all leathery! There chops were good. It was a filling plateful that I couldn’t finish , but that was my choice !We watched the sanitising process as people came and went and were impressed at the care takenWe can highly recommend this pub

The location is lovely - beautiful views down the river and watching the sun set. We sat on the terrace which was lovely until the mosquitos joined us and then we got bitten to pieces (apply insect repellent before visiting!)The service was slow and all of the serving staff were miserable. When we got there they were no longer serving food which is understandable in the current climate but there were no bar snacks available to buy due to a failed delivery.

I rarely write reviews but felt the need to tell people about our visit as it didn't seem to be the same as some of the more negative reviews. We arrived at 6.15 on Wednesday evening 12th August, luckily we had booked for 6.30 as there was a queue to get in, it was very busy. The lady welcoming us took us to a lovely table on the terrace overlooking the river. All the staff were really friendly, the food was served quickly and everything was tasty, we had two seafood platters which were enjoyed and seemed good value for money although some previous reviews claimed otherwise. Can only say what we experienced was first class especially as it was so very busy.

After having read a review in our local newspaper which was positive we decided to visit for lunch. The location and view across the river is very pleasant but the pub itself is tired and in need of a refurb. The terrace area overlooking the river needs smartening up and the inside of the pub is very drab. The food was poor.We paid 16.95 pds each for a fish platter and for that price you expect something well presented and tasty. The presentation was very poor and the quality was very average . Two slices of bread accompanied the seafood plus some very limp leaves and a small cardboard pot with oxtail sauce.Service was poor and inattentive. My recommendation is do not waste your time going there.

Easily found a well distanced table in the marquee on the terrace. The waiting staff were very attentive and helpful. Food was absolutely super (though not sure about salad with olives and balsamic dressing with ham, egg and chips - Mother happy to put it on to my plate instead!!) Lovely views, lovely chat with staff after meal - will be back soon :)

We had been recommended this pub, the views were amazing and the staff very friendly but we thought it was overpriced and inside the pub it didn’t feel particularly clean. The seafood platter was disappointing. It is definitely not a smart pub so jeans not dresses! Not a celebration pub - they didn’t have any Prosecco!!

This place never ceases to amaze. Every time we visit we are treated to amazing food, great staff and a view whilst we dine which is to die for.Despite the restrictions that COVID-19 has resulted in this establishment having to put in place the staff have created something that works. The ‘check-in’ process works great and other measures such as table service only is a positive. Well done team and we look forward to visiting again soon

This place is of course a restaurant desperately trying to convince people it's still a pub (as evidenced last year when watching the landlord close without warning on a sunny weekend afternoon with 40+ people drinking in the garden as soon as food service was over because he'd stopped making money). You know the kind of place I'm talking about so I'll come straight to the point...4 pints = £22.20.Yes, that's right, you read correctly, £22.20, or £5.55 per pint. And no prices on display before ordering, of course. For what? Is it the beer? Well, the restaurant is 34 miles from Adnams brewery (which is the only ale they sell). I was camping in a tiny hamlet in the White Peak last week, it was approximately £3.75 per pint and the beer they were serving was brewed between 100 and 150 miles away. In Sheffield where I live, I can buy a pint of beer from hundreds of miles away for under £3. So it can't be that.Is it the view? No. They don't own it. Although it's possible they think they do...Is it the above average wages they pay their staff? Seems unlikely. I only ever go there 2 or 3 times per year when here in Suffolk visiting my dad and the staff have been completely different every time I've been there since it ceased being a real pub. I asked one of the bar staff last year last year why the beer is so overpriced and she told me it's because "the staff have to get to work". Really? Who'd have thunk it!...so the same as literally all the other bar staff in the world then???Or is it...DRUMROLL PLEASE...the same predictable, sickening, unchecked, indisputable GREED, GREED and more GREED, now so common that it's become the norm rather than the exception and people have stopped noticing? Yeah, it is isn't it...Avoid, avoid, avoid if you're not rich and don't want to see the last surviving community pubs to go this way. The small beach in front of the place is lovely, as is the view, so grab a picnic and a couple of chilled ones from the cool bag and enjoy! (Obvs taking the litter away after, no one needs to shame themselves that way of course).Enjoy!
