Over-priced food - an unbelievable £4.75 for a stodgy, tasteless cheese scone with one pat of hard, cold butter. Only managed to eat half of it, really unpleasant, threw the rest away. The cakes were not covered and crawling with flies. Sandwiches even more over-priced at £8.25 for a small cheese sandwich with white bread. This cafe used to be so much better. Will drive past in future and not stop here.

£9.50 for a rubbery beef and horseradish sandwich , basically taken out of the cold counter display and slapped on a plate still in its wrapper with no garnish etc . Leek and potato Soup £6.50 tasted as though it was made from a packet with no sign of any real vegetables in it , very watery and tasteless . Shocking for a place like this . Could be so much nicer and we won’t be eating here again .

I like Snape Maltings. Even if you aren't here for a concert there are some good shops. But for somewhere that also plugs its proximity to walking routes it's not very dog friendly. Quite what you do when it is raining I don't know (maybe the pub?). But thankfully it was a sunny Sunday so we sat at the terrace at the Granary. It's pleasant enough though a shame it is right be the entrance drive to the car park. Staff were a bit manic. Answer to the question on where the menus were: "Over there, I think"!! That said, there were friendly youngsters and it was busy. And they did offer water for the dog which was nice. Sandwiches were standard choice for a cafe but they were decent enough. Coffee was excellent.

The double cappuccino was dreadful. It was bitter and watery. Not sure which coffee they use but not good and the staff obviously do not go on a barista course. The shortbread may be large but so non-descript not worth eating .What a shame that they sell all these fabulous products in the shop and serve rubbish in the cafes. I did complain to the shop manager and she did offer me a free one in tbe shop. Get your act together as you have loads of fabulous competition around.

My wife and I have visited this café at Snape Malting, Suffolk on many occasions. It is good for a drink, snack, lunch, or afternoon tea. I particularly appreciate that they always have a choice when you ask if there's any gluten free cake. I can especially recommend the gluten free rich fruit cake. But they have to keep it chilled, so it won't be out on the counter - so just ask.

We decided to have lunch at the granary tea room at snape maltings. Being a food professional myself, I usually never give such a low rating to food establishments. However, the first thing I saw when I ordered my food at the till was this- the lady at the billing counter casually squished a fly with her fingers on our food tray and did not even bother to clean the blood and kept putting our food order on the same tray, even though she could clearly see the dirt on the tray- which was absolutely disgusting and off putting. A fly shouldn't be buzzing around in a tea room in the first place! Food was very mediocre- the hot chocolate was literally given to us within 30 seconds of ordering (quick service I must say) and was nowhere close to being hot chocolate. We ordered a goat's cheese panini , which weirdly tasted and looked like camembert. The coronation chicken jacket potato had extremely hot potato and icy cold chicken mix (just out of the fridge)- probably assembled without bothering too much about an even temperature. I'd rather you take your own picnic basket to snape maltings if you ever plan to visit.

We visited the Granary Tea Rooms after it was recommended to us. There is a limited menu of the usual items, Panini's, jacket spuds, sandwiches etc. My husband had a Ploughman's Lunch which consisted mainly of bread and cheese (lots of bread) and I had sweet potato soup and a roll (again lots of bread). My husband enjoyed his meal, but my soup was dreadful. I lashed it with salt and pepper hoping to as some flavour, but it was not to be. I think it was basically boiled sweet potatoes liquidised, whoever made it obviously hadn't tasted it. Soup is so easy to make it's beyond me how you can ruin it! So come on Granary Tea Rooms a little more imagination and definitely more tasting is the order of the day.

My wife and I called in to the Granary Tea Room for a spot of lunch. We both ordered prawn mayonnaise sandwiches on granary bread and black coffee. The bread was OK but there the quality ended. We could see the filling was prawns but one would never have told from the non-existent taste. As for the mayonnaise it was difficult to comment on the quality as there was virtually no mayonnaise present. The sandwiches were presented on a plate with a small handful of crisps, a handful of wet slivers of lettuce, two small slices of flavourless cucumber and, the only tasty item on the plate, one decent slice of tomato. My wife's coffee had a thin oily film on the top and a floating sliver of lettuce. For an up market location like Snape Maltings we were both very disappointed by the poor food standard and the high cost of over £14. If you can't afford to use quality ingredients in sufficient quantity when making sandwiches then leave them off the menu.

We stopped to buy hot drinks and cakes and spent well over £20 for 4 of us, when I asked if me and my 10 year old niece could have 2 cups with the 1 pot of tea the woman quite impatiently explained she was not allowed to do that. We bought 4 pots of tea and left nearly half in each pot!Feeling very put out, I phoned the manageress this morning to explain I thought that was very stingy considering the other purchases and she said that it was company policy and £1.95 was very good price for a pot of tea and feels giving 2 cups is not necessary but if we had been more demanding the staff are told they are allowed to give a 2nd cup if it is for a child.I believe this is counter productive because although they got an extra £1.95 from us yesterday we will not be returning again (we live locally) and I shall be telling other people and I am sure they will loose more business then the small amount they would have lost out by not giving us a 2nd cup!!! I've been cycling out to Snape Maltings cafe for the best part of a decade now, and - recently - have been popping along on the weekends to shelter from the gales and wet weather and to have a double espresso. The coffee here is not bad (they make both espresso and cafetieres) and is a decent price. Sometimes I've treated myself to a cake (they're pricey, but a good treat) and once in blue moon I've had a 'wedge' sandwich which provides plenty of energy for continuing the bike ride.On the other hand, after today I think I will be looking for other local cafes for my pit stops: I'm not super fussy about service, but this cafe has seen a notable decline in this area over the past few years. I arrived today (before the lunchtime rush) and there was no queue, and four or five staff on, but the strange system they have behind the counter meant that nobody was willing to either take my order or say "hello, we'll be with you in a moment". The young man on the coffee machine was clearly busy, but the rest of the staff were just standing around - again, this is likely a result of the 'system' they have in place, but it doesn't give a good impression if you are the only customer at the counter and several staff are doing their best not to look at or talk to you! (On previous visits, when I have observed the cafe during busy periods, it seems the system in place does not really maximise the efficiency of food/drink production, but I'm not an expert!) Anyway, today, after waiting a few minutes when nobody seemed interested in me, I simply left and took my order elsewhere. Perhaps I have become too used to American customer service, or the friendliness of my local cafes in Ipswich! Still, if you are at Snape Maltings, this is not a bad cafe to get a hot drink or bite to eat, but it could be much better if they sped up the service and actually seemed to care about customers.

Soup looked and tasted as if it were home made. Very good and served with a good quality hot bread roll. Other diners had a variety of dishes, all of which looked good. Will go again.

Having failed to find anywhere to eat at Aldeburgh at 2.30pm, where flexible eating times and outside eating area for people with dogs do not seem part of the offer, we came to Snape Maltings and found the Granary Tea Rooms. The choice and quality of food available for a light lunch and tea were very good and the service speedy, efficient and friendly. Well worth a visit.

Visited for lunch with our young son. Menu wasn't very extensive but sounded nice enough. Asked if they would do a sandwich without one ingredient for our son but no, all sandwiches were pre-made. Perhaps alarm bells should have rung at this point as to why only a small varieties of sandwiches and Panini's have to be pre-made?? No children's menu. Ordered a sausage roll. No sorry that ones already sold and we have run out now. At 12.50pm?? Seating outside was ok. Couldn't have a bench with a parasol, only 3 parasols with 18 benches. We paid £6.50 for a pate ploughman's and left most of it. Pate was very bog standard. Have had far better from the supermarket. Bread was tasteless. Lettuce was going brown. Pickled onion was so sharp it was inedible. Very disappointed. Expected something lovely going by these reviews. Won't be going back.

We visited here for lunch on a beautiful sunny day while visiting the Galleries at Snape Maltings, so we sat outside where there were wooden tables and integrated benches, some with umbrellas. There was also seating inside for less clement weather. We had mid-morning coffee and a fruit scone, and later went back for a lunch of a "Wedge" sandwich (a two wedge shaped pieces of a granary bap) with small salad and some crisps accompaniment. The coffee was good and so was the lunch. Prices for the Wedge seemed a bit high, but not outrageously so, and all the food was very good. Service at the counter was friendly and efficient. A nice place to stop if in the area.

Food and service ok, but far too expensive. One thin slice of cheese and ham on a cheddar and ham ploughman's meal ? Salad out of a bag ?. Joke at their prices.

Stayed here for the Easter Break from good Friday till the Monday. Such a lovely feel to this hotel. The food on Saturday evening was to die for we had our friends join us and all had Beef Wellington and all agreed the best one we have ever had ! Second time staying at this hotel and would definitely go back as staff and management are lovely.

Ver disappointed. Two young girls on duty who were indifferent to our questions. We sat down and neither came to ask if we needed drinks before ordering. There was only one other family in the restaurant. Left without ordering. Have been before with better results but not happy with the lack of service.

We took advantage of an unexpectedly sunny Sunday to take a friend in a wheelchair for a stroll on the prom and brunch at the Alex — where we knew there was an accessible loo, should it be needed. Our order included a vegan breakfast, muffin and poached eggs and smoked haddock fishcakes, plus cake. All were good, fresh and well-cooked. Hats off to the chef who perfectly poached those eggs. The staff were friendly and professional and went out of their way to help us with wheelchair manoeuvring. The place feels well-run.

Called in for a meal here on a week night. We were told to book, but really didn't need to as there were only 6 other people in at the time we were there. The food was excellent, as was the service, but the room we ate in was very tired and in need of refurbishment. That said, we would return for the good food.
