Food is absolutely fantastic and could not fault it. We haven't been for a few years but enjoyed our return visit till i went to pay the bill, because of covid they were only accepting cards (or preferred cards) so that's all i had with me. When presented with the card machine all you can see is "Add 15%, 20% or 25% gratuity" on the display screen!! and with the waitress standing holding the machine in front of you and because of covid she didn't seem to want me touching it more than i had to, so you are put under pressure to leave a tip. Now i always usually leave a tip after a meal but this pressure is off putting especially with the percentage figures displayed and this will probably put me off visiting again unfortunately.

I was expecting a truckers cafe, and this was great, there were good honest food, good prices, great bacon butties, and soft fried eggs, mugs of builders tea, just fab and we will stop next time we’re passing for sure

· Wow where to start, I found this gem while visiting the local area. The inside is very warm and cosy and beautifully decorated. The staff were so warm and went out of their way to make me feel welcome. No impersonal self-check-ins here people! My room was on the top floor and can only be described as a cosy little snug. Gorgeously decorated with pretty lighting and an illustration of a castle. The bed was decent and had a lovely tartan rug on top. I was delighted to see there was a pretty antique-looking writing desk and chair in the room with plenty of space to hang clothes and store bags. There is a nice bath in the bathroom and this is the first place I saw had a proper bath matt as well as a matt in front of the loo. No moving the thin little matt around with a foot in this bathroom! I loved the fact that I could open the window in both the bedroom and bathroom. Pleasant continental breakfast, and decent coffee. The evening meal I had here was scrumptious everything on their menu looked amazing. The dining room had so much ambience and music in the background was not over loud meaning people were still able to talk to each other. Parking right outside. Bravo! highly recommend. I ended up booking a second night. Would visit again.

Was greeted at the front desk by the most grumpy woman I have ever seen. For some reason had to give them my name and phone number which they wrote down! I wanted to ask why but didn't want to cause a stir. Was ushered to a table and asked what we wanted. We wanted coffee before we had a look round the shop. I have been to the shop many times and bought lots of clothes and presents for people so have spent quite a bit of money over the years as I'm quite close by. We ordered our two coffees and a scone. I didn't order anything to eat. I am gluten intolerant and didn't want any of the big GF cakes they had so I always carry a small museli GF bar with me. The waitress came over and we gave her our order. I said I didn't want anything as I'm gluten intolerant and had my own small bar with me. The owner came over in the most abrupt manner and asked what was wrong with me? "Are you celiac?" I was so taken aback by her manner and rudeness. She did say we have GF things here and I said I know but I didn't want a large cake but if it was a big deal we will just leave. She couldn't care less if we did. Her reply was "We need to make money!" ok yes you do but the amount of money I've given this place over the past few years would certainly have covered the cake. We walked out. Such a shame as I just wanted to treat my 90 year old mother in law to a coffee. So So disappointed with the staff's attitudes, ok maybe I shouldn't have had the GF bar with me but there are ways of going about things and she definitely had no People skills. What a shame I will be telling everyone about my experience and probably won't return.

The chippy is just up the road from us but we probably only pop in to get chips once a month to go with a meal we are making. The chips are always good these days, as is the service and the staff are really helpful. On more than one occasion I’ve seen them going above and beyond to help out a member of the public. Also really pleased to see the phasing-out of polystyrene trays and plastic bags in favour of paper and cardboard over the last few years. Fish could always be bigger but you could say that about any chippy these days and the last few fish I’ve had have been really good. Highly recommended.

We have been a few times food was really enjoyable. We live near by so really handy . We went in on Sunday to have lunch and were told that because of a big table they were shut till half past one !!!! So we decided to wait and have a look round the shop. We went back to the entrance to restaurant to be told that they weren't serving food till 2 o'clock. At this time we could see that half the tables were empty and not reserved .There were customers before us and behind us that were bemused by the lack of entry despite being vacant cleared tables ,So along with the customers before and after us we all left .Morgan Mcveighs loss was another establishments gain .Its very easy to lose customers but not soo easy to gain them. Has put us off going back in a hurry.Poor management. What a shambles .

We had quite a disappointing experience, we booked the room on the Thainstone house website, we paid extra for a larger bed "super king deluxe" and some extras like a fruit platter, when we arrived they gave us the wrong sized bed, was a standard double when we paid for a super king deluxe, there was also no fruit platter. We were confirmed on the booking for the restaurant, but the restaurant was closed. Instead, they served us in the bar on weird low lounge chairs. It felt a bit silly making us eat in an area that's designed as a lounge, low slouch chairs, etc. They gave 3 different reasons as to why we couldn't eat at a table, considering they have 3 other rooms designed for dining it seemed a bit of a bad decision, other guests came in and looked pretty cheesed off at the arrangements. The gym and pool were really run down. It's not the sort of place you expect when you pay well over £300 for the entire experience. For that price and the house reputation we expected something really nice, I had to pretend to be happy as I didn't want to stress my girlfriend out, we had driven down from the Highlands for her to have a medical procedure at Aberdeen hospital, I thought it would break the journey up and make my girlfriend less nervous to spend the night in a posh hotel, I was mistaken. The one thing that saved this was that the food was amazing, but be warned, a pint of standard beer is £12. I left feeling like I had been really ripped off, wouldn't mind paying more if the place met the expectations.

My story is very similar to Louise L (July 2024). Met here with friends for coffee/catch-up/a browse/lunch. We all ended up with parking fines. Saw none of their 'obvious' signs - buried in a hedge is NOT obvious! Tried phoning for assistance - totally dismissed. Tried appealing - got a set script in response. Very expensive day out! None of us will be back.
