Had an excellent meal here last night from the Christmas menu. As always, Sarah's cooking was fabulous...tasty, generous helpings made with care. My dairy intolerance was accommodated well with alternative dairy free ingredients...thank you for the extra effort this requires. David's hospitality was great as usual. Lovely Christmas atmosphere...don't hesitate to call in for home cooking at its best with top quality ingredients.

We had very nise coffee and lemon drizzle cake - would go back again if we are in the area. Staff were nise and chatty and friendly.

We needed to stop for breakfast as we passed through town. I had never heard of a restaurant inside a garden supply store, but it had good reviews so we decided to try it. The Potting Shed was very cute and looked like a little greenhouse. We even bought a few fun items in the store on our way out. We’ve have had quite a few Scottish/English breakfasts on our trip across the UK, this was one of our favorites!

Food is lovely, lots of nice choices, not just your standard fayre. Everything home baked and fresh. The cheese scone was delicious as was the soup and gingerbread oh and the coffee!! It has a really nice vibe and the staff are lovely too. This is one of those places where if you went whilst on holiday, you would be really pleased with yourself for finding it and you'd make sure you went back, but I'm lucky enough that it's right on my doorstep! I've booked for a Christmas meal one evening and I'm sure it'll all be delicious

We were heading south of the border and stopped off in Coldstream for some lunch during their local Civic Week in August 2024. I lived in the town for several years a long time ago and it was interesting to have a look around prior to popping into The Besom for something to eat. This is a pub which had a good reputation for food back in the day and recent reports seemed to suggest that this had been maintained. The surroundings are “homely” looking with a nod to the Coldstream Guards, there were a reasonable amount of people to provide a little atmosphere and we were given a friendly welcome. The menu has a standard selection to choose from however we were only looking for a snack so both ordered Bacon & Brie Paninis (£5.40 each). These were served in good time and were accompanied with a salad garnish, coleslaw and some crisps. We found the bacon filling a bit on the fatty side but once trimmed by ourselves the paninis were otherwise good. By the time we had added a ½ pint of beer (£2.50) and an Edinburgh G & T (£5.40) our bill came to £18.70 which we considered very good value for money. Toilets were typically bar-like and functional.

Stopped for lunch. Definitely a good decision. Bacon rolls were excellent with the bacon cooked to perfection. Cheese and mustard scone with additional chutney went down well. Three pots of speciality tea. The Bollywood Chai is superb. Great value for money. Highly recommended

Fantastic hotel we found just over the border en route to our trip into central Scotland. Very welcoming, fabulous food. We had asked for a dog friendly room and we were given a small cottage. Super clean and beds so comfortable. Wished we were staying longer and will definitely return .
