Smashing Inn. We booked an overnight and had dinner in the Bar. Thursday night is Curry Night and we both enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Masala. The room was spacious and spotless. Friendly, helpful staff - what's not to like?

We stayed here twice in a week, Sunday and Thursday. We were doing a trip of Scotland on out motorbikes. So firstly, there is a hard standing next to the rear entrance that we used, on a Sunday it can be busy until locals leave but you will get parked. The staff were friendly and helpful, the bar is nice with a fire going and a nice pint. (I had a red wine though at £7!) Others said the food was nice for dinner. Breakfast was outstanding though. The gent making and serving it is the previous owner and the produce was not only top notch but cooked perfect. Amazing haggis and black pudding. Rooms.. Ok so room 3 was nice enough, (a twin) did the job, very small shower that did feel to small but got the job done. Plenty of tea and coffee so a drink on arrival and a couple in the morning, Bed very comfy, slept great. Thursday was in room 5, an apparent upgrade even though I asked for a double, but this was a much larger room. Sky box and tv, oddly to the left but still good to have. Bed was comfy again. I didn't mention the issues we had on booking com as wanted to see if they would reply, but haven't so I will now highlight them here. Thursday, after a long ride from the north we really wanted a shower, No Hot Water. Popped to the bar and the lady was helpful to boost the boiler. Still no hot water. The shower oddly was cold to, most are self heating. We tried the shower in the communal bathroom but also cold. They gave us keys to room 3 that worked previous, (noone else staying) also cold.. baffled we boiled the kettle and had a sink wash and went down to the bar. It turns out a friend of the owner (who is in Canada) was in the bar and heard us tell the bar lady about the issue. He said "i think they are waiting for oil" At breakfast sure enough we were told the oil will have arrived but noone bled the boiler. The poor guy doing breakfast having to try put it all right. Had someone called him he may have known to fix it. The place really could be awesome if the owner puts some care into it instead of letting someone do it all as a favour.

We booked a supper for Valentines night as they advertised a deal and we are local.. 3 stars because the wine was pretty good at a great price. We ordered the American platter for two but - OMG the food came out and the table groaned! Hot Dogs, fries , burgers. onion rings, battered mushrooms; Far too much for a couple, but more importantly, it wasn't good; in fact it was not very nice. We ate a little bit and asked for a doggy bag for the rest.We were not able to eat anything all the next day (bloated and uncomfortable). That next day Eddie (my dog) refused the burgers! I am sorry for a poor review, I i usually give glowing reviews but I try to be truthful and this is our honest opinion This is a lovely little community pub and great for its beer and wine but it really has to get its act together for food.

Came for dinner last Saturday. Was lovely and welcoming local wee pub. Staff were friendly as were the locals! Lovely to be able to have dogs allowed. Food was comforting pub grub, just perfect for a casual winters evening! Good portions and great value! The pub was having a great new paint job on the outside too, which is lovely to see they care about the look of the place and take care of it. Will definitely be making a regular trip down here.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!

Don't normally do reviews, and only stopped for a quick coffee and bacon roll, but felt this place really deserves an excellent review. Rare to find a place that does such a decent coffee (cappuccino done properly, in a sensible sized cup not a Costa bucket), the staff were lovely - all of them - and there was a nice stove in the corner on a bitterly cold January morning. Never stopped off here before on an A68 run - will make a habit of it now.
