The best restaurants serving British food in Northowram and Shelf Calderdale Yorkshire and The Humber

Tapas style food drip fed to table. Took 30 mins for our drinks order to arrive and a further 30 mins for some bread and pesto. Onion bhajis were a little large for my taste and smelled burned but were good. Halloumi was nice. Marsala cod couldn't taste marsala but was tasty none the less. Truffle chips came after this main course which was an odd timing. Wife had some sort of meat which she enjoyed. Larger not sold in pints but 3/4 pints. Drinks expensive by comparison. If possible get seated upstairs as downstairs lacks atmosphere. Service was slow to start as mentioned above. Was nice to spend some quality time kid free so overall enjoyed the night Neal cost £90 which was probably £20 too much to be honest.

Went today after seeing post on Facebook, we didn't book and the staff set a table up for us, got 2 course Sunday roast and daughter got the Yorkie wrap. Plenty of food, great price, brilliant staff.

Restaurant review only.. We booked for a birthday meal, the service initially was quite good, the serving staff where helpful and timely... The food on the other hand was not very good at all. Firstly I was served a coffee with a biscuit which had a hair sticking out of it. We made the server aware and it was it was rectified with a fresh cookie. We then ordered their Roast carvery option, this wasn't very nice, the vegetables where dried and had been left too long and the roast meat was far too tough to cut never mind chew. The portions of chips where obviously re heated as the where very dark and burnt. We did mention it to and where charged for a small carvery instead of a large... Whole thing was disappointing as we went for a birthday meal... We won't going again.

We were very privileged to book an outside buffet from the bottomley Arms Shelf. It was for a special occasion a 50th wedding anniversary , the food that was delivered was outstanding ,delicious ,such a brilliant choice excellent value for money we could’ve not asked for anything better. The service was outstanding.. the food arrived hot as we had a hot buffet and cold buffet . The delivery service was brilliant. We highly recommend Jo and her amazing team to everyone .

One of the best fish and chip shops in the area. We are regulars and have never had a complaint.

I wanted to write a review on this place because I'd read a couple bad reviews and... I don't understand how you could rate this place low! This place is great, great location, the scones are TO DIE FOR and the rest of the food was lovely, hearty portions. I would recommend this place to anyone, we had the burger and the savoury tart— we were not disappointed. Definately plan to return at some point.

We called in by chance just before breakfast finished. The place was crowded (always a good sign) and we worried about getting a table. However, the staff rallied around around and found us one. We both had full breakfasts. The food was nicely cooked and presented. The stff were friendly and helpful. We'll be going again when we are nearby - it was worth the diversion.

The food is good if the owner is there himself, otherwise you get given small portions, tasteless food

The food was fantastic , very tasty home cooking, good portion s , and a lovely ambience, wish I lived a bit nearer as I would have it as my local pub, keep up fhe good work.

We came to this place to celebrate a big win, and it turned out to be one of the worst experiences ever. What made it horrible was the clear racism and bias they showed towards us. One staff member in particular stood out for their unprofessionalism, openly talking about us and pointing fingers to another table while we were sitting right there. It was shocking. It was supposed to be a joyful celebration, but the atmosphere created by the staff was hostile and completely unprofessional. No one should be treated like that, regardless of who they are or where they’re from. We will NEVER come back here again. Absolutely appalling behavior. Avoid this place if you value respect and decent service.
