Absolutely amazing pub! Just been newly taken over and it’s back and better than ever. We came for lunch and the service from new assistant manager Ellie and manager Ben was spectacular. Very accommodating and nothing was too much to ask for, also the food with chef Chris was amazing, everything was perfectly cooked and presented lovely! Definitely recommend for lunch/ dinner! Thank you all for making our time there memorable, we will definitely be back x

The Duke of York has improved drastically in the last couple of months. Under new ownership the pub has got its customers back and the atmosphere is really good. We also tried the food yesterday and it was really nice and really tasty. I highly recommend the Beef Croquettes of the small plate menu and the Steak and Potato Pie for the main course. The only minor negative came when they decided to turn the volume of the music up a fair few notches. For the first hour or two the sound level was fine, loud enough to hear and enjoy but quiet enough to have a conversation. It got turned up to a point where we couldn’t hear anyone talking, however they did turn it back down upon request so that was really appreciated. We visit here fairly regular, even before the new ownership and will continue to do again.

This pub used to be really good but under the new owners it's absolutely fantastic. Beavertown beers on tap and the food is unbelievably good and the prices are spot on. Frequently call in for a bite to eat after a dog walk or to celebrate birthdays with family etc and the service is top notch, comfy seats with a log burner nearby. Couldn't be happier.

Had a lovely meal, delicious and plentiful. Great service, very friendly. The room we were in wasn't particularly Christmassy and felt a bit bare, so could do with some cosying up but didn't detract at all from the food. A really nice pub.

Atmosphere 3 because we were only people in. Would have had more of a buzz if it was fuller. Don't let that put u off. Portion sizes were great and food was good.

The food was great - just a pity we had to wait so long to get it. It took over an hour before someone took our order. Then it took almost another hour before our starters arrived. We were told there was a back up in the kitchen but that didn’t explain why one drink took almost 20 minutes to arrive nor why other people, who had arrived after us, had been served and almost finished eating before our starters arrived.

Back again for a Sunday roast. Did not disappoint. Food was excellent and service was impeccable. Waiters were both professional and excellent(young lad with glasses and young blonde girl). So impressed again with the food and the atmosphere. I cannot rave on enough about this little place

Visited the Duke of York on Sunday and was happy to see it was getting the recognition it deserved. Very busy and seemed to be understaffed but our waiter handled everything amazingly. He was attentive and helpful and overall made our trip. The food was excellent despite a waiting time which was instantly forgotten upon the first bite of our roast dinners. Thank you so much especially to our waiter who's name we didn't catch, but deserves a massive amount of recognition. Great Sunday lunch at a great price.

We booked for Sunday lunch with family for a birthday treat , we where advised on entering the pub the kitchen was a little behind due to staff issues and we would have a 30 min wait . On ordering we confirmed the wait time as we had family travelling home to Newcastle after . We where advised that they had caught up and shouldn’t even be the original 30 mins advised , however the starter took ah hr to arrive , the mains where 2 hrs , our parents had to leave with out eating there main meal . The staff where polite and the food was ok when arrived but the experience was not relaxing or enjoyable unfortunately at one point we where the only table in downstairs eating so by no mean busy .

Arrived on a Sunday for a family birthday meal, with some members of the party travelling over 2 hours to make it. On arrival we were informed it would be a half an hour wait, this was double checked upon ordering and we were reassured it wouldn’t even be 30 minutes as they were quiet. It then took 1 hour for starters to come and a further hour for mains to arrive. This meant family who had to travel to get home, left as the food took so long and they went without eating. When food arrived it was average. We were given a free round of drinks and staff were apologetic, however the whole experience was so poor that we shall not be returning.

Earlier 6.15 beautiful steak meal for two with a lovely bottle of Merlot £34 Steak cooked perfectly, chips, Wow, gorgeous! Fabulous front of house, cannot give enough praise to, I believe her name was Charlie but I may have misheard, what a fantastic asset to a fab place, she was totally focused on the diners, very impressed with her attention and attitude to a couple on the table next to us who were visibly impaired, she instantly asked how she could aid them with the menu 👏Fantastic, sent to the wrong venue chuckle, what a right wrong treat ❤️

Visited today for Sunday dinner with my family. Varying choice especially for my vegetarian sister, great food and fantastic service. Best sunday dinner i’ve had round here for a long time!

The most disappointing meal I've had for a long time. Should have known better when we walked in. Only two other people there. Complained about the wine as it had a strange taste. Just showed me the bottle it came out of. Won't be going again.

Best pub food we’ve had in ages. It was so fresh and the food was piping hot. Staff were very nice and accommodating and kept coming to check on us. Feel like we’ve found a little gem, will be returning. The chicken alfredo was 10/10 better than any I’ve had before

Delicious Sunday roast beef dinner, I really enjoyed it. Very tasty red cabbage, gravy and the carrots were soooo good. The meat was perfect for me, lean and a decent portion. Roasties and Yorkshire pud excellent too. Yum, I will be thinking of this meal all week.

I’ve been this pub many times before asked for a menu when buying a drink and then ordered my food at the bar, all good and friendly staff. On this occasion I asked if food was still being served, the lady said yes and was told it was table service , I took my drink and sat down . The same lady walked past me 3 times and still no menu or even asked me for my order. I’m not sure if she assumed that because I was solo I wasn’t going to eat but I clearly asked if food was still being served and was advised it was table service. I left after 25 mins once my drink was finished . Please sort this out as I’d like to return again but I’m not going to sit there like a lemon again!

We arrived to celebrate my mums birthday having accidentally booked the table the day before. Despite being full they managed to find us a table in the bar area. The meal was absolutely gorgeous and we had a wonderful time. All staff were friendly and made the experience a joy. Food was delicious and good value 👍

Good food and very friendly staff. Would definitely visit again. Good sized helpings for most of the meals, although the fish pie was a bit small. Confusing menu for vegetarian as not noted that veggie sausage were available as part of the roast, along with veggie gravy, and a ‘V’ against the Chicken Caesar salad?

Food and drinks expensive and food not good at all chips like old chips recooked tasted funny, burger undercooked, had lamb shank also and broccoli burnt and replaced with hard awfully tasting microwaved! Hardly any mash or gravy! Desert was just as bad and ice cream portion was around a teaspoon size scoop served in a sauce pot?? For the expensive price charged was very bad. Seats was filthy n needed cleaning, will not be wasting my money again at that price could go to any decent restaurant previous good reviews are from when old owners had the pub, since new owners taken over overpriced rubbish

Me and my husband came for Sunday lunch today. The food was fantastic. Really good sized portion and everything was really well cooked. Meat was great and loads of lovely veg. Service was excellent. Would definitely recommend.

First visit since the new owners and I was not disappointed. Tried the Catalan burger and it was delicious! My partner had the steak and ale pie and said it was gorgeous. To top it all off the service was immaculate. Would definitely recommend

Had a lovely roast dinner here one Sunday afternoon. Served by a lovely lad called Charlie. Very efficient and friendly. Desserts also good. Quite pricey but worth a visit.

Had some vouchers kindly given, booked a table and looking forward to a meal. When ordering showed vouchers only to be told they would not honour them as business recently changed hands. No attempt made to compromise. If you buy a business like this that offers vouchers then factor that in! We left and had a nice meal elsewhere. Also beer selection was pretty poor. Don’t think I will ever return.

Ate here after not being back for some time. Lovely food and excellent service. Will definitely be back soon.

Went for the first time in a year and I think it must have changed hands. Portions no where near as big and Sunday dinner not as nice as last time . Jam roly poly was raw suet and sticky toffee pudding tasted shop bought, again small portion with a tiny splash of very runny toffee sauce and was served with a dead fly in it - they swapped it but took a while to come and by the time it did the rest of the party had finished. Given 2 stars as I enjoyed the garlic mushroom starter and staff were attentive. Would go back for a beer but won’t be eating there.

The first two time we went here it was lovely food was consistently nice, staff were really attentive. I always order chicken an chorizo pasta however when i went Friday night i orded this same dish and it was completely different, no flavour just cream and pasta. I was really disappointed. We booked in advanced however only got to order our mains an didnt even get offered a desert menu.

Just went in for a drink and chat to friends and family, good selection of drinks and menu looks good and the food comming out was wholesome Pity pubs don't have more seating areas for drinkers and having to squeeze into one small area as tables were reserved for diners was less enjoyable but I fully understand, good atmosphere and staff are very pleasant

We were given a recommendation to go here as the food is good. And the food was very good, it just took way too long to come! We arrived at 7.45 and didn't leave until going on for 10pm. And not because we were loving the atmosphere. And we only had mains, not 3 courses. The food was great all around, no complaints. But the service was so slow! The restaurant wasn't particularly busy, are there were plenty of staff so not sure what the problem was. I suppose the bar area was quite busy but if that's going to effect the service of the restaurant then maybe stop serving food earlier on? We were wanting to get a dessert but weren't prepared to sit there for another hour.

Visited for a drink with the wife on a Saturday night. Staff are welcoming and the pub is brightly lit with lots of nooks and crannies to sit in. Not eaten here, but will come back. Beers are almost £1 a pint more expensive than other pubs in the area.

Worst place Iv eaten. Booked table for 12 people on a Monday night waited hour and half to get starters. Very poor service. Got soup of the day which was supposed to be with freshly baked bread roll, but it was a slice of bread. Ordered steak and never asked how I’d like it. Will not return

We booked a table for 4 on Easter Saturday. Shown to our table, ordered drinks, received the menu, great choice to suit anyone's taste all at great value. Placed our orders, The waitress was cheerful and jolly, our food orders soon arrived. Excellent service, lovely meals, great atmosphere and fantastic value. Looking forward to our next visit. We recently visited for a family get together. The food was really nice although we did have quite a long wait. Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful although we didn't appreciate being told by 'Savanna' that they table was needed back before we'd even had our pudding. She was quite rude and abrupt to be honest.

Went midweek for a birthday meal with the family very excited about the food as we had heard good things, arrived at 1815hrs on time for our booking where we were shown to our seats by the friendly staff and had drinks to our table straight away. Orders for starters and mains were put in straight away round about 1830 for the 8 of us 2 of which were children. The starters turned up around 45 minutes later which seemed quite a while considering it was a Monday evening and the place not being rammed out and the fact we had all ordered the same (mozzarella sticks) however they we’re nice. We then proceeded to wait for the mains which took almost an hour, the waitresses must have noticed our frustration of waiting and came to apologise for the delay of the chefs even though it wasn’t there fault they explained that there was only 2 chefs in the kitchen that particular night. Once the mains turned up we were all starving and were looking forward to our meals however on receiving them we were disappointed. My father and I had steak cooked medium which was very dry and burnt around the edges. My mother and fiancé had a gammon and leek pie, this was served smothered in what looked and tasted to be very salty beef gravy which completely ruined the pie, the kids had an adult sized chicken burger which was extremely charred to the point it was burnt, the kids aren’t fussy eaters however most of it was left over. The kids and my partner ordered a dessert last thing which did appear to look lovely and no complaints from anyone so that was a positive. Once the bill came we were shocked to see it to be £260 for 6 adults and 2 children… I am no stranger to a large bill and do not mind paying it when it is worth it but I thought this was very overcharged for pub food which took forever to come and was burnt… 3 pints of beer were also ordered while we were there and everyone else orders a soft drink so I couldn’t justify the bill in the sense of loads of beer and fancy cocktails. On the whole very disappointed after the good things we had heard don’t think we will be returning again in a hurry.
