I found this little gem of cafe a couple of years ago... this is a proper ‘old skool cafe’ that makes a great full English and your usual Bacon sarnies etc and lunchtime meals and sandwiches. It’s very clean and you don’t come out smelling of fried bacon 😉 Prices are good, the owner and staff are a friendly bunch.

The main highlight is that the restaurant is located in a fantastic castle. Not everything was delicious—the pasta was unimpressive, but the halibut and appetizers were tasty. The selection of wines by the glass was quite good. Inside, it’s cozy and atmospheric, perfectly in tune with the castle’s charm. The staff were incredibly kind and genuinely welcoming.

"Disappointing and Inflexible Cancellation Policy We recently booked a table for 4, paying deposit. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, two of our party could no longer attend. We attempted to amend our booking to a table for two and asked if our deposit could be transferred. Despite our willingness to still dine at the restaurant, they refused to transfer the deposit, citing their strict 'non-refundable' policy. While I understand businesses have terms and conditions, their complete lack of flexibility was extremely disappointing. It felt particularly unfair that they wouldn't accommodate a smaller booking, especially as they will likely re-sell the original table. This experience has left us feeling that customer service and goodwill are not priorities! While the food may be good, I would caution anyone considering booking here to be absolutely certain of their plans, as they are completely unwilling to show any flexibility, even when you are still offering them business. I would not recommend booking here if there is any chance your plans may change.

We popped in for lunch, we live locally but haven't been here before. Overall it's such a lovely pub, nicely presented inside and out with a very comfortable area for drinks outside. Plenty of free parking. The service was excellent. My husband had the pie which was a good size portion and very tasty. I had the cod and chips, the chips were great-chunky, fluffy and crispy. The fish was such a disappointment. The piece of cod was so thin and small and there loads of batter, there was hardly any fish so all I could taste was batter. The texture of the batter wasn't very nice either. I would have happily paid more for a thicker, decent size piece of cod, the cod I was served was the smallest I've ever been served in a pub. I sat there in envy watching my husband eat his lovely pie. The other thing I was disappointed with was the specials menu, I was looking forward to seeing what was on there but it was mainly more steak options. There are already 3 steak options on the menu, is there a need for more steak? I personally would have preferred to see dishes on the specials which aren't featured on the main menu. We will definitely be back as overall it's a nice pub.
