The Oak in Birmingham

We used to love coming here for their brilliant mixed grill, but the new menu is too expensive and is more gastro pub than local pub. The staff are lovely but unfortunately they were unsure if they could cater to the 3 of us because they had a big order. They also had no fish and chips left. We hope the pub realises their mistake with the changes and goes back to serving good pub food at pub prices because the location is perfect, the interior is lovely, and the staff are always friendly.

Went today for lunch. New menu very small, and prices have gone through the roof! I think the Company that runs it must think they're a fine dinning outlet, have they visited it lately? It is not! Had one drink and went to Horse and Jockey which is a much better run pub with great food at reasonable prices. The Oak was empty when we visited!! I wonder why?? Sorry Oak used to enjoy your food, but not at these prices!!

Hunters chicken in a crock pot like a dog bowl. Take a magnifying glass for the chicken and bacon. Soggy chips and cheese wasn’t melted. Definitely will not be going back. Only recommendation would be to avoid!

This local is a really easy going and friendly pub. Good food, great staff and pleasant surroundings ….josh a bar staff member is professional, helpful, friendly and always accommodating. Cannot fault this pub.

Team were absolutely amazing, really looked after us well, food was super, even my picky children had choices available to them & the kids meal and dessert offer is great value for money, overall food tasted amazing, bar staff were friendly, what a great visit.

When my friend (who booked the table) arrived, the ladies were not aware of her booking. Had a John Smiths because of no Doom Bar, had to swap the pint because the first one didn't taste as it should. The food was good. Got a refund because there was only one child's portion of sticky toffee pudding left. The men's toilets were very below standard. Ashton is a very hard working and pleasant young man, he could not do enough for us.

Horrible place. Grey decor in an over lit lounge. Inhospitable with TV’s everywhere. No flow to the room, dirty tables, sticky menus and fake flowers in pots. Why would you choose to go here? I did, but won’t make the same mistake again. Definately doesn’t suit the estate it’s on. My advice, knock it down!

I came here for dinner and had 2 meals off the meal deal menu, the staff were very friendly, the food was amazing value for money. definitely will be returning!

Came here with my mates on a Tuesday, had a few cocktails and played a bit of pool, the food was brilliant and the staff are great.

We had a business meeting here a few weeks ago and they gave us the bar area, the food was delicious and all the staff were polite friendly and attentive

I would like to put a complaint in against the food standards from the new traniee chef on Friday 29th July. The pub and staff are brilliant. We are regulars on Friday we love our fish Fridays ! Always receive impeccable service and 10/10 food,however this visit was slightly different upon ordering we were told only pollock which was fine so we proceeded to order 4 pollock and chips . This came out exceptionally quicker than usual but after tucking in the fish was frozen not even a little bit completely frozen!! The regular Friday chef (lady) came out explained it had been cooked by a trainee and offered to personally re cook our food herself which we cannot fault it was our usual standards . We felt sorry for the staff as you could see they were under pressure and as we are regulars we knew there must have been a different chef. personally you should not have a trainee Cook on a busy Friday the difference in the food was unbelievable. I will not be eating here again.

This place has it all, a bar area, outside area and a lounge where you can eat, the location is very good, a park right over the road for the children to enjoy, the staff are very friendly and helpful, the food is very nice...

Family of 4 adults came on may bank holiday for a family meal and was perfect. Food very good for the price (I know my dad loved his cod) staff very nice and dog friendly too! Lovely local pub!

Popped in for a couple of drinks after walking the dogs. Excellent service, and the beer was good. Lovely bar maid, I think her name was Beth or Bev! Such a lovely girl. It makes such a difference when the staff are so nice.

Popped in with daughter. She'd done her homework so time to chill.Rolled out the boat and had a pint of orange squash each... Don't want her drunk... she's only 12 ...We had the pie and chips meal and a chicken curry meal.Food.. waited a fair bit of time but at least it was hot and tasty when served. Poppadom might be best but that's only negative on the food.Considering it was 2 drinks and 2 meals for £12.19 it was good value. Nothing left apart from the poppadom. Will go again.

When going out for a drink with friends on Saturday night I do not want children in the lounge area after 10pm. On numerous occasions children are spoiling it for adults who want to meet up with friends for a quiet drink. The parents just let them do what they want. Last Saturday children were going up to the bar to get drinks after 11pm. Then one proceeded to ride a scooter around the lounge area at 11.30 whilst the parents just ignored what was happening. The bar staff just ignore what the children are doing and never challenge the parents to leave. This happens quite often with various families being very selfish and expecting adults to ignore the fact that their children should not be there after 10. The manager should ensure when she is not working in the evenings that her staff know that families are supposed to leave by 10 and that this is enforced. Also there will be an accident which the parents will hold the staff responsible.

Lived close for 5 years. Been here about 5 times. Will pop in more often.Today was a scorcher so needed a cider so had a short walk to sample the mid week delights.10 chicken wings in reggae reggae sauceLarge plate of chips Pear magners x 2Apple magners x 1And a foot long ice cream to share.So ..Chicken wings really nice. Spicy kickChips well cookedAnd the ice cream. Hmmmm with Smarties and marshmallows.Came to about £25 all in.So would I go again. Yes.Daughter would love the chicken and ice cream. No doubt the cider too but alas... Well too young for that. Enjoyed it.

Visited a few times and never have I ever had a bad experience, Jess and her staff are brilliant and always helpful. Food is very good and they have a varied menu which caters for all. Overall one of the best local pubs in Sutton Coldfield which I will be visiting again

My children love coming here to all the events that they put on for children are brilliant my kids have been going for years to the halloween Christmas ect and hopedully many more . The staff are friendly and welcoming .

Having eaten here a few times, we decided to have a late Sunday lunch after shopping. My husband commented on the fact that on each previous occasion, they never seem to have what he wanted to order. Sure enough - they hadn't got all the components of the burger he tried to order. They did try to put something together with substitutes. He said it was okay, but the portion of chips was very small, so not really good value.

Never visited before the refurbishment so cannot comment. Modern interior with plenty of seating inside and out. Two bars serving restaurant area and regular bar side which has pool table and darts. Plenty of TVs for sports. Popular at times

Looks like a completely different pub now it’s had a refurb ! The food is always excellent and the atmosphere is really welcoming. Bar staff are friendly and helpful, especially the landlady Jessicah.😀

Had some food and cocktails in the sunshine here recently. Amazing atmosphere, really friendly staff and lovely Manager. Mixed grill is SO GOOD and they’re dog friendly which is a massive bonus. Love it.

The Oak has recently undergone refurbishment and it is really good. It's modern and clean. All the glasses don't have stain in them and the floor isn't sticky with spilt beer. The staff are really friendly too. The ladies toilets seem to let the place down a bit as when I went in the lock to the door was broken off. It is dog friendly and family friendly until 10pm and just across the road there is a shop and a park which has recently been done up too. I really recommend this place.

The manager jess and her team are excellent, the oak has had a superb refit and is well worth a visit. Just for a drink or food to excellent fish and chips and lots of offers on food good times
