Off the scale Sunday dinner. Lamb and belly pork both melt in the mouth delicious and portions to satisfy the biggest appetite. Everything delicious and hot from the gravy to the veg and even though there wasn’t really room for pud, we found a hole and that was perfect too. What a cook, what a baker and nothing too much trouble for any of the friendly staff. Highly recommend!!

The perfect family friendly pub, with separate play area for the children to play in which they loved (aged 4 & 5), the staff were friendly, very helpful and made my daughters 16th birthday meal extra special. In our party there was 6 adults and 2 children - great grandad loved his fish and chips and his great grandson loved his children's sized steak. I thought that there was a good range of meals available which were all reasonable priced. The kids meal deal was a lot cheaper than other pubs I've been to, portions were spot on for them catering for every taste. What made the evening even more special - the staff brought birthday cake out all singing happy birthday to the birthday girl, she was even given a free birthday mocktail which made her feel very grown up! We have been a few times to the pub and haven't had any complaints with the food or service for a Saturday night it was quite empty but it had a really nice personal atmosphere. Will definitely be going back again

We had such a nice time. Every dish was full of flavour, perfectly presented and made of the best ingredients. Better than many 1* Michelin restaurants we’ve been to. The staff was very kind and professional too. The onion brioche, crab bisque, lamb loin and chicken mains and chocolate desert all hit the spot!

I was so sad that due to ill health I was unable to visit The Barge and say farewell to Tina and her husband who have been welcoming me (a very fussy vegetarian and I mean fussy) since I had my 60th Birthday party meal with family and friends. A whole six years of putting up with my menu choices and not batting an eyelid but laughing with me and my husband as to what I would choose. Thank you both for putting up with me it was always a real pleasure to dine with you. I hope you’ve still got my phone number Tina if you ever fancy a cuppa it would be an honour to meet up Shame though not at the Barge. Take care in your retirement and enjoy every day as it comes. My son and daughter in law took me for a special birthday treat. The ambience is just right with the upstair reception area a nice way to start the evening. The food was perfectly cooked and presented with just the right of amount of attention from the staff. Thank you for the little cake and candle to finish off the evening.

As always Bates restaurant did not disappoint. The menu was varied and catered for all palates. The food was amazing, well cooked, well presented, hot and delicious. The service was excellent, friendly and efficient. I would recommend this restaurant for all types from ‘fussy’ eaters to fine diners. We will definitely be visiting again.

What’s happened to this fish and chip shop. Went in there lunch time for two fish and chips had to wait 10 minutes for them to cook it and when I got it the cod was the size of a fish finger the batter was tasteless and the fish still had the shin on . I don’t know what oil they cook with but guessing it’s Castrol engine oil the chips were all stuck together by it. This was very disappointing as always been happy in the past

What a lovely welcome! Greeted by Steve and the locals after a long drive, into the valley where Sandford Orcas and The Mitre quite literally nestle. Such a friendly team at The Mitre. The room was spacious, comfortable with a lovely ensuite. The garden is being landscaped and the first phase is already well on the way to being complete - looking lovely. The clever planting means it will look great all year. The menu is small but mighty - in that there is a good degree of choice for all tastes. The food itself (I had Wagu Burger but sea bass was recommended by a regular) is also really good quality. Steve did a fab' omelet for breakfast - one of the best I've had. Why not a 5? The spring nights are cooler and the room was a little cold. It was too late to raise it and the glorious sunshine the next morning made it irrelevant. I will definitely be back!

My wife and I came here for a coffee to start our day. We shared some sourdough toast with butter and jam, while I had a cortado and my wife ordered a chai. We headed out into the garden and took a seat in the morning sun. The toast was excellent – butter and jam may be simple, but it’s always a winner. My cortado was very good, and if we’d stayed longer I’d definitely have had another. My wife, who’s something of a chai enthusiast, didn’t enjoy her drink, unfortunately. We spent around 45 minutes playing a card game before heading off, and overall it was a lovely, relaxing way to begin the day.
