The best restaurants serving British food in Taunton Deane South West

We have used the pub for many years but having moved away we made a special trip back and weren't disappointed. The owners have now added the 'Snuggery' which is a beautiful self contained holiday let which is in the old part of the pub. We were greeted by the warmest of welcomes from Vic and Paulette [the owners] and shown to our room which consisted of a lounge, kitchen and beautiful bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Once settled in we were made to feel welcome in the bar where we had drinks and caught up before sitting down to a wonderful meal. My partner and I both had the steak and ale pie with fresh, perfectly cooked veg and crispy chips [some of which kept finding their way onto my partners plate!!] - followed by sticky toffee pud for him and cheese cake for me! The service is warm, friendly and nothing is too much trouble for the team. After a few more drinks we went up to our room and had a fab nights sleep before heading down in the morning to a roaring log fire and freshly cooked breakfast. Needless to say we didn't want to leave!

Better than any Carvery I've had more like a traditional home cooked roast dinner with locally grown vegetables

We ordered food for delivery and it was delicious. Portions are very generous and the food is seasoned to perfection. We had pork gyros and the pork was so tender. Don’t sleep on this little gem, the food is amazing!

4 of us stopped lunch. Really was very good. I had their Turkish eggs, which were so good I got up half way through to ask what herbs and spices they had made it with. Would fully recommend.

Great little cafe, lovely outlook near the river. Food delicious, generous portions, very reasonably priced and polite, helpful and friendly service. Will definitely be returning when in Taunton.

Excellent food and lovely staff. Relaxed atmosphere and need to allow plenty of time. Food freshly made by students on the premises. I had the vegan meal. My meal was roasted parsnip risotto, wild mushrooms, and a chocolate mousse. Oak or soya milk available for hot drinks.

We have visited this cafe a few times and it is consistently good food at a good price. The omelettes are thick, tasty and very filling and the breakfasts are lovely. Topped off with good hot drinks!

As a type 1 diabetic, Cornish pasties are a rare treat for me, so when I do get one, it's important to get it right. This place did not disappoint! I got the giant pasty, and it was delicious - exactly what I think a pasty should be like. What's more, the friendly gentleman serving us went out of his way to find the carb content, meaning I can dose my insulin correctly. Fantastic! 😊

We have been here many times and the food and service is always perfect & so we came back here for our anniversary meal….once again it didn’t disappoint , the food was amazing and the service was efficient & friendly. We always recommend this restaurant as it is consistently good.

Sunday roast at the Barley Mow…heaven on a plate. It is always beautifully cooked, a choice of 3 meats, and just the best gravy and roast potatoes. Excellent value for money, and always a warm greeting from Mark and Lorraine. During lockdown, they delivered to us, and are still delivering their delicious meals. However, it is lovely to go back to the pub, thank you all.

By far the best breakfast sandwich I’ve had in my lifetime. The chap running this place is efficient, polite and simply produces the best quality breakfast sandwiches I know. Not greasy dripping, bread/rolls are perfect thickness and softness. The perfect breakfast!

Occasionally visit this country pub with great food as a convenient meeting point for family members from various directions. Booked lunch on Good Friday to find them short staffed and very busy. But a huge shout-out to the lady on duty who was serving drinks, taking table orders, running food and didn't stop smiling or apologising for any delays, even when we all ordered teas and coffees afterwards. Food was excellent and definitely recommend.

We visited the pub for 3 evening meals in a week and everything was outstanding! We were staying close by and after our first evening meal we were hooked. We can thoroughly recommend the Pork Chop - all 24 oz of it! , Rib Eye Steak, Beef Bourguignon and the Pork Belly. If you love home cooked food and have a big appetite this is the pub for you. The staff are all so welcoming and attentive and the Locals Dogs are just as friendly!

Attended yesterday evening for my birthday meal. Fantastic food, great service and friendly staff who were very attentive. A country pub in town, perfect. As a dog business owner, I brought my dog to join our party of 8, very dog friendly and brought her a nice big bowl of water! We will be back.. new favourite! Thanks again!
