We have used the pub for many years but having moved away we made a special trip back and weren't disappointed. The owners have now added the 'Snuggery' which is a beautiful self contained holiday let which is in the old part of the pub. We were greeted by the warmest of welcomes from Vic and Paulette [the owners] and shown to our room which consisted of a lounge, kitchen and beautiful bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Once settled in we were made to feel welcome in the bar where we had drinks and caught up before sitting down to a wonderful meal. My partner and I both had the steak and ale pie with fresh, perfectly cooked veg and crispy chips [some of which kept finding their way onto my partners plate!!] - followed by sticky toffee pud for him and cheese cake for me! The service is warm, friendly and nothing is too much trouble for the team. After a few more drinks we went up to our room and had a fab nights sleep before heading down in the morning to a roaring log fire and freshly cooked breakfast. Needless to say we didn't want to leave!

Just called in on Fri 8/11/19 for a meal. the landlord was very accommodating and the food was to die for. I would rate this establishment as one of the best in the area. The only drawback was they only served bottled ale (although it was good local ales). will definitely be returning.

Having already experienced a Christmas lunch at the Holywell the choice of venue for a future celebration was never going to be difficult. Having booked 2 weeks in advance our family gathering of 8 adults and 4 grandsons arrived in good time for the Sunday Lunch. This for my wife and I was to mark our special 2019 birthdays (we were both January babes). Warm welcome, a friendly cosy atmosphere, excellent food and service, this pub ticks all the boxes. Thank you Holywell on behalf of our gathering for making birthday's celebration EXTRA SPECIAL.

Firstly I must say I was disappointed to the reply nuff said, and equally shocked to find the gentleman that dealt with us was the owner, and not just the barman, not all barmen are as rude as you sir. It may have come as a bit of a shock that we did comment on our meal, yes I was in the party of four. As we were holidaying in Wivilecombe, and took recommendations from locals as well as TripAdvisor, the fact we found the meal unexceptable, and felt the need to voice this.

Usually I feel people dish out 5 star reviews as happily as exam boards award grade As. But when it’s deserved it needs to be done. Here is an unassuming village pub that delivers a most delicious Sunday lunch. My friends are vegan and pescatarian and are very well catered for and me, as the carnivore, was very satisfied by a very decent roast beef. So many pubs resort to food from a lorry that is merely heated. For example, deep fried Brie wedges can be particularly poor but here the panko encrusted wedges were home made and delicious. If by the slightest possibility they were mass produced I’d love to know the provider. What is also good is when one can ask for something not on the menu and the waiting staff says ‘yes, of course’. Usually it’s, ‘sorry sir if it’s not on the menu we can’t’.

Visited for lunch with my wife and her Uncle for his birthday treat - and what a treat it was! I would call this a serious gastro pub with beautiful dining rooms - three I think. The staff were very welcoming and could not have been more attentive. The menu gave us more than enough choice. I chose the steak and ale pie which was delicious - it was also nice to be offered extra gravy. My wife and her uncle ordered the cod en croute which went down very well. Puddings were varied and of a very high quality. My salted caramel chocolate brownie with clotted cream was absolute bliss. Coffee was served whilst we sat on the couches by the fire - very civilised. I considered that the bill for such a high quality and beautifully served meal was an absolute bargain. The three of us generally eat out at pubs all over the Devon, Cornwall and Somerset areas every three weeks or so and we certainly rated thr Holywell as one of the very best experiances.

We eventually got up and asked the waitress if we could have a menu. She did apologise and I do think we were an oversight. The menus arrived. Plastic covered a4 sheets. They didn’t impress, however there was a good choice of food so we ordered. Our food was piping hot, well presented and tasty but the overall experience wasn’t the best I’ve had. Knowing that while travelling down the M5 en-route to Cornwall I would be in the Wellington area at lunchtime I checked with TripAdvisor for a suitable place for lunch. I selected this Pub and what a find! Fortunately I had booked a table as it was very busy. I chose the 'Pie and Pudding' Special, my wife a 'Warm Brie Salad and my Mother-in-law Fish and Chips. All the meals were excellent in quality and quantity and I really appreciated the extra jug of gravy with my pie. For dessert I chose the 'Sticky Toffee Pudding' which was so light and covered in sauce that it was more than excellent. The ladies chose the 'Jamaican Ginger and Lemon Cheesecake' which they said was really good too. Two years have passed since my last visit and this time I and my wife joined six other friends for dinner. The pub was packed and is clearly still extremely popular. Dining tables are in a number of rooms and it looked as if every seat was taken. The menu choice had something for everyone and I thoroughly enjoyed the rib-eye steak followed by a malteaser cheese cake - both red wines were also excellent. The staff were rushed off their feet but were attentive and smiling throughout and they gave a professional service. Quirky shaped rooms, gently sloping floors and some very low internal door frames so watch your head if you are tall. No Guinness available but another dark, malty substitute from Cornwall which was not liked by those that tried it. Clean loos, rooms pleasantly decorated throughout and a great atmosphere. Well worth a visit if you are in the area but I would recommend booking. Parking available.

We booked a table for 4 for a Saturday night. We arrived a little early and were politely shown to the bar with menus. The orders were taken in the bar area with our drinks, so no waiting unnecessarily at the table. The owner (I apologies, I can't recall the names), had a really good sense of humour, and made us as tourist feel really welcome. He clearly has a good relationship with his regular clients as well. The whole team were very efficient, pleasant and courteous. We had starters and mains. All portion sizes were good, without being excessive. Each meal had a very homemade feel to it, giving it an excellent taste and presentation. Temperature was also good. I would not recommend anything in particular as we all had different meals, and all reported an equal positive experience. The cost I found very reasonable, giving the quality, which we were more than happy to pay.All round an excellent dining experience, incorporating hospitality, ambience, quality and price. We booked the Holywell Inn after reading reviews on here as we were stopping a few miles away for a long weekend. I tried booking for Friday night & Sunday lunchtime a month in advance, but Friday night was already fully booked (I now know why), so we went on Saturday night and Sunday lunchtime. On arriving on Saturday night we went to the bar to get a drink, and were greeted by Vic, the very jovial bar person, and I believe owner, more of him later. My wife & I both had the special of Cod Goujons for starter, and Steak & Ale Pie for our mains. Both were excellent, but beware, the plates are red-hot so do not touch with your hands. We could not fit in a dessert due to the sizes of the other 2 courses, but the "help yourself" Cheese Board with 10 cheeses looked very appealing, and one of the best cheese boards we have ever seen. When we arrived on Sunday, we were not on the Reservations list. I showed Vic my confirmation email, and he gave us free drinks for "his error", then invited us to wait in the lounge whilst they found a table. We were in no rush so this was not a problem, but we had a table within 10 minutes. We both had the 3 meat roast dinner, with all of the trimmings, and it was superb. Large, freshly cooked, and very tasty. This is a gem of a pub, with very friendly staff, but most importantly of all, excellent food. If you are in the area make sure that you go, but ensure that you have booked in advance as it is very popular, and was packed on both occasions that we visited.

My partner and I both had a starter of Brie wedges with a Cranberry jelly, salad and warm roll with butter, delicious. For my main, I had the Duck and port pudding with port gravy. My partner chose the Mushroom and cashew nut en croute. The waitress asked if she was vegetarian, which she is. She then explained that a lot of meat eaters chose this dish so it was available with normal or vegetarian gravy. (nice touch)We both thought our Meals were really tasty. All in all a wonderful evening

First of all this pub is a Tardis. Seeing the outside it is hard to believe how big the beautiful interior is. Spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated. Then there is the food, well it was simply some of the best we have had in ages. Service was good and attentive but not overpowering. Good selection of beer, cider and wine. No need to say any more.

We've known this hidden gem for over 20 years and it's gone through many ups and downs but the current incumbents deserve high praise after our recent reunion with old friends. Smart warm inviting clean interior. Homely. Luxurious. Efficient and friendly service. Sensible modest menu. Good value. Tasty. Hot. Hot plates too. Ale choice good. Ok for eat or drink only. Other rooms give space to spread if desired. This pub is one of the best all round I've visited. I'll be back. Often.

My friend and I turned up at Holywell Lane at 1:50pm on Sunday lunchtime, me with muddy boots, her with muddy dog. We sat in beer garden and I went in to enquire whether we could get some water for the dog and any food for us as we hadn't booked and it was Sunday lunchtime. The staff members on duly, all young and female welcomed me, make me feel like nothing was too much trouble and were friendly and smiling after what looked a very busy Sunday shift. The food was lovely, we just had starters and chips (!) and I would definitely return.

Not an easy place to find, but well known to the locals so ask them....Food very good and not expensive...Closed on Monday evenings, but then vist the Beambridge on the A38 where you turn off to get to Holywell. Monday nights there have an offer of Pie and a Pint for under a Tenner, and five different Pies to choose from

We holidayed in Wellington for the week & came across The Holywell Inn. We arrived early in the evening with our daughter & son-in-law & Zac 3 & Joseph 4 months. We were made very welcome & given a lovely large table for dinner. That wasn't the only thing that was large! The portions were huge & absolutely delicious. I had fish pie which I couldn't finish. My family also thoroughly enjoyed their meals. The puddings were huge too. Great value for money & very family oriented. Would recommend. Nice large car park too.

After eating here once before through someone else booking, we decided to have an impromptu supper here again; the staff were as warm and welcoming as the first experience. The food and service is really the best around this area, with the service being second to none. Thank you for a most enjoyable evening.

Deciding to pop in off the cuf around 7pm we were surprised to find there was only one table for dinner free! what a lovely evening we had from the moment we stepped in the door the host was friendly as was our dark haired waitress. Food was exceptional - loads of veggie choices for me whilst still pleasing my meat eating husband. We ate two courses each plus drinks and the bill was a really reasonable £52. Only downside was that the food was so good we couldn't leave any and so overate!! Highly recommended

What a hidden little gem, service was brilliant the atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming. The food was of the highest quality and really fresh and tasty. We visited for the first time on Thursday 25-8-2016 and as soon as we walked through the door we were met by the friendly members of staff who were very helpful in making sure we knew where the bar was and what table we were sat at. Both me and my partner ordered the prawn cocktail as a starter. Which came very well presented with a hot ciabatta role. The whole starter was just and insight into what quality home cooked food is all about. Once the starters were cleared the main came in the appropriate time of not having to wait to long. I had the garlic butterflied chicken with chunky chips and salad. From start to finish the whole meal came pipping hot and presented very nicely. It was very tasty and I would recommend having this dish.My partner had the home made steak and ale pie topped with Stilton, chips and fresh vegetables of the day. The food was popping hot and delicious would highly recommend it . The food was so good that we returned on Sunday the 28-8-2016 to test out the roast which was like home from home cooking. Not very many places you can go were the quality of food is of very high standard and is all home cooked and delicious from first bite to last.We will be returning in the near future to sample more delicious food.

Superb. What a little gold mine to find. Wanted something special as 14 of us on holiday to celebrate this mile stone. Great ambiance! Fantastic staff prepared to go that extra mile. Gluten free dinner was great and as one member was poorly (prior to coming) they kindly packed everything up to take home! White chocolate rocky road was a great surprise!! Thanks Vic & Team. On arrival was told that Trip Adviser was the bane of their lives as it brought in so many outsiders. "We are not cliquey but we like locals really". Thanks for the warm welcome! Fish pie was cold in the middle, no set meals for kids but the steak and ale pie was tasty (but just a re-heat). In my view best left for the locals as that is clearly all the custom they want.

Looks quite small form outside, well laid out inside and clearly very popular, advance booking advised.Good range of local and other beers, the steak and ale pie was of the proper homemade variety, with a rich gravy, the rump steak was cooked just so, and the chunky chips were top notch, all good.

As a type 1 diabetic, Cornish pasties are a rare treat for me, so when I do get one, it's important to get it right. This place did not disappoint! I got the giant pasty, and it was delicious - exactly what I think a pasty should be like. What's more, the friendly gentleman serving us went out of his way to find the carb content, meaning I can dose my insulin correctly. Fantastic! 😊
