Fantastic eatery and pub. Superb food with a great atmosphere which is down to the wonderful friendly staff. Highly recommend for a reall quality menu excellently executed.

Called in as the place we had booked had flooded. It was really nice food, service, and atmosphere. The only slight gripe was that the burger came with no salad, coleslaw or anything which was strange. Otherwise great

Second visit, the first during Covid times. Sat inside this time which was very cosy! Service was exemplary and the beer/food excellent. A must if you're in this fair town.

Visited the ring of bells for Sunday lunch, with friends . Staff very friendly. Quick with the drink orders. Unfortunately once the food started to came out , it all started to get very disappointing , Firstly all the plated potatoes and meat came out for 14 at once , but only enough veg for about 6 people , It was another 10 minutes at least before any more veg came out , and that was only after bringing it to the server’s attention by which time The plated food had gone Cold , The puddings were a real let down and greatly overpriced, If you’re after small portions at Inflated prices , And mediocre quality, Then this is the place to go.

This is a lovely pub located close to the centre of Taunton. We had a lovely meal, Beef Brisket followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding. The food and wine was excellent, although it was too brightly lit upstairs where we were. However, there is a shocking lack of vegetables with the meals. All we had were onions. There is no bowl of veg that one would expect. No veg on the menu. This really puts me off going back.

Visited on 10/11/23 With a group of friends, Staff very welcoming. Drink and food orders taken efficiently, Problems started when the food came out all the mains came out together , but only enough vegetables for about a third of our party came out with the mains , Everyone else had at least a 10 minute wait by which time the meat, potatoes and Yorkshire puddings were cold to the touch , Had to ask several more times about where the rest of the vegetables were, we were also told we may not get the cauliflower cheese because they only had a small amount and other diners had to have some kept back for them even though around 6 of our party had not had any. Puddings were very disappointing For the price , ordered the biscoff Cheese cake which consisted of Plain cheesecake with a crumbled up bit of biscoff placed on top. It looked like something a 5 year old would make at nursery. Whoever sent that out from the kitchen should be ashamed.

I am very bad at writing reviews on Trip Advisor but I feel I need to write one for "The Best Pub in Taunton" We go to eat at The Ring of Bells at least every other month and we have never left disappointed. Matt and his team are very attentive without being overbearing and the regularly changing menu always has interesting new dishes on it which you just want to try. We use the pub for eating on our own before a show at The Brewhouse or whenever we have friends staying as we know we will be looked after and that the food is great and the prices are reasonable. Booked a table here for 16 of us . The food was amazing ! The service was 10/10 . Not sure of his name but the waiter that took care of us , couldn’t not do enough for us . Made sure we were all happy and had everything we wanted . Highly recommend this place . We will be back at some point . Thankyou very much .

Only popped in for a drink. I'm guessing it's a eating pub now as had to wait to be seated. A lot different from when I last visited.

Great guinness friendly bar staff, that was my first review, now the service is atrocious, it is the second time in 3 weeks that I have visited, been seated and then totally ignored both times for over 10 minuits in a quiet time without being served, not atrocious service and ambivalent staff who really can't be bothered, if it was just the once, maybe an off night, this was twice o. The trot, abismal especially for one of the most expensive pints of Guinness in town sadly I won't be bothering again

Great pub- the best in Taunton in my opinion 🍻

Ended up here because we thought they had live jazz. We decided to stay and eat anyway and we’re so glad we did. Our server, Hannah, with her beautiful red hair, was amazing and the chef came out and checked in as well! The meal was AMAZING! Everything fresh, perfectly executed and delicious. This American chef approves!

The service was brilliant. We sat outside & it was lovely, if a little chilly but to sit inside these days you need to book well it advance. Outside was fine but noisy & fully of kids. Unfortunately the food wasn’t as expected. I had the ‘fish mezze’ which was really disappointing. I expected more than 3 prawns, 7 bery tiny bits of calamari, a small pot or pate (which was the best part of the meal) & a tiny quenelle of crab meat, with some bread. For the price, I expected more. The chicken burger though was apparently great!

Been here many times previously and always had good meals. However, last night, 30 Aug 24 @7:30pm, very disappointed. Brought visiting guests with us having told them that this was a really good pub restaurant. I ordered (expensive) rump steak (medium). What came was a rather flat, burnt around the edges, well done piece of beef! Not wanting to detract from our guests enjoyment I didn't say anything at that moment, but expected a waiter/waitress to come back and ask if everything was okay. That didn't happen!! When waitress did finally reappear to clear the table I mentioned that the steak was overdone. No apology, but said she would let chef know! Nothing more said. My wife said her linguine was nothing special and our guests fish and chips didn't look that good. It's very disappointing to see standards drop like this. Hopefully notice will be taken of this review and improvement made.

Steaks perfectly seasoned. Staff were very attentive. Had a wonderful evening. The steaks are definitely worth having.

Fabulous place, with a great menu, lovely staff, and never felt rushed today, even on a busy match day. Just feel embarrassed didn’t have cash for a much deserved tip!

Had a great birthday party in the function room upstairs which was nice and private. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and the food was amazing. Great organisation and would come again next time we're in town.

It was really great right up until they decided I'd done a runner (I had gone to the toilet) and made it so blatantly obvious when the barmaid announced "Here she is!" as if I was some kind of mental patient or couldn't understand her! I'd been "MIA" for all of 3 minutes. Absolute shocker!!

Just finished our Sunday lunch here. First time we have been but it certainly won't be the last. Lovely food. Lovely staff. Everything is clean and fresh. We sat outside in the smoking area. Our choice. So nice to be able to eat and then smoke in peace and not be treated like a pariah. We had a lovely time. Thank you. We will see you soon.

Love this pub. Great selection of beers and ales. And the staff are so polite, friendly and attentive. They come round taking orders and bringing drinks to you. Properly spoiled.

Lovely place to have lunch and drinks. The staff have always been welcoming and the food is delicious. We have been here many times before, we have brought family and friends and would highly recommend.

Really lovely food & excellent service

One of those pubs that thinks it is a restaurant. When we walked in we were greeted at the door and asked I'd we had booked a table when we said that we hadn't his attitude towards us changed, we were told to order at the bar and our drinks would be brought over to us when I went to pay in cash I was told it was card only It's a good job my wife had hers with her. Not my type of pub but with saying that I am sure it will suit many people.

Amazing place. 5*'s for the staff! Will definitely be returning for food and more drinks sometime. I reckon the evening vibes will be 🔥 as well. From my quick pint with the Mrs I would highly recommend 😊

We were a party of 6 adults, 3 babies and a dog… and we were accommodated very well. The food was great. Nice shaded outdoor space was perfect for us as a large group. Excellent location in town, close to a park and the river.

We turned up without a booking and needed to be served quickly as we were going to the theatre. Lovely friendly staff, really good food, we had eaten and were out with time to spare. Couldn't have asked for better!

Lots of staff on hand to help, from meeting us at the door to pulling chairs out. Good menu but quite pricey. There are not many vegetarian options.

Very welcoming lots of staff equals quick service. I asked for which real ale is recommended. The manager suggested the best. The food was not hot but well presented and delt with promptly. Overall nice warm and friendly.

Good Sunday lunch, but limited menu. If you have mobility issues be aware that the only access to the upstairs dining is a narrow staircase with turns, so if booking you may want to specify a downstairs table.

Went for drinks after a show. Table service was great with the first round of drinks. The second round of drinks was not such good service. We felt that we were in the way and was an inconvenience. A Shame as this was our first visit.

Favourite pub in Taunton! The food is guaranteed to be amazing, with a menu that offers lots of variety. When friends come to visit this is the first place we take them. Be sure to book ahead as it fills up quick. Ring of Bells has never let us down.

De ka real simple but pleasant cuisine

Popped in for a quick drink and a bite before the theatre as it looked a friendly welcoming pub, was meet by two rather unfriendly signs, Wait to be seated and no cash...so not so friendly after all and not for us. Guess the age of standing at the bar enjoying a pint and the atmosphere is lost in this pub.

Table service for drinks is rare in England, but that's what you get here. Excellent real ales.

I've been to The Ring Of Bells a number of times and every experience has been the same. Very friendly from the moment you enter, and service is prompt. The food is excellent, and the layout and overall feel of the place is very comfortable. Excellent.

Really friendly staff and so accommodating to our needs. We were a large group that had to be out in time for the theatre but with our meals preordered, everything ran like clockwork. The food was delicious and we had a really social space so the perfect evening before watching family perform at the theatre. Thank you

The Ring of Bells is a fantastic pub that ticks many boxes for a satisfying drinking experience. It boasts a commendable selection of alcoholic beverages, catering to various tastes and preferences. However, I must admit, cocktail enthusiasts might find themselves slightly disappointed as the pub doesn't offer cocktails on its menu. What sets the Ring of Bells apart for me is its inclusion of Sheppy's Low Alcohol cider—a personal favourite of mine. It's not often you come across such a quality low-alcohol option, and having it available here is a definite plus.

Substantial meal £6.00, beer £37.30. Bargain... The outside has been brought inside! Magic if you've been immunised but a little less magic if you haven't been immunised!

Consistently great food and convivial atmosphere. Service is attentive and prompt. Food intolerances and allergies catered for with minimum of fuss. Highly recommended.

Popped in for drinks only. Went to the bar to be told it's still table service only, which is fine if you get to sit together. On this occasion, my friend and I were sat on separate tables side by side but sat opposite strangers. This felt odd at first but the people were locals and conversations struck up, so in the end it enhanced the experience. Attentive service, we were asked as soon as our glasses were low, did we want another. It was a busy bustling atmosphere.

Busy pub close to the cricket ground, needed to wait a couple of mins for a table to become available. Table service and 5 ales on hand pumps.

We had a family get together to celebrate what would have been our Mum's 100th birthday. Our party of 13 were made hugely welcome. We dined in the upstairs room and everything was first class, especially the service. Thank you for making our day special.

We had to wait at the door to be seated. We were not allowed to stand at the bar. Drink prices were expensive. Needless to say if you want a traditional pub experience this is not it.

First but not last visit. Went for Sunday roast, with my Son. The food was on point, with a more than large enough portion size.

We love to come here every time we visit family in the area. Always great service, and choice of drinks is excellent. We've had food here once before, which was really good, and the beer garden in the back when the weather is nice is an added bonus.

Nice atmosphere. Good food, including a Sunday nut roast for vegetarians. Only drops a star for limited ale range. I am a bit fussy mind, as I like dark beers....

14 of us had our Christmas lunch at The Ring of Bells. They were so accommodating with our booking and made it so easy. The menu was great, food delicious and staff amazing. We had a lovely time and hope to book again next year.

We were absolutely delighted to have another lovely work Christmas Lunch at The Ring of Bells. As usual, food and customer service didn't disappoint! Very warm, welcoming atmosphere in well maintained space with an amazing food. A great choice of food for three course meal that needed to be pre-ordered. No photos of food, as food was disappearing from plates so fast that I haven't had a chance to take one 🤩 Highly recommended for group outings. We sure will be back again!

Excellent pub and very welcoming. Log fire and dog friendly. The owner/manager is hands on and personally welcomes everyone to his pub and know all the locals by name! Sadly we went on the busiest seasonal day and therefore could not sample their food but the pre booked party meals looked fab!

This was a lovely pub for drinking, with a stylish curved counter! The design is historical including the layout with glasses and designs on walls, staff were friendly too. I enjoyed a bottle of Corona Extra, sitting comfortably at classy seating!

Had an amazing meal at this pub two lunchtimes on the trot it was so good. Both service and meal. we’re excellent, just what we were looking for on our short visit to Taunton. Wished we lived nearer. Also a great atmosphere. We had seafood chowder and blade of beef first day both excellent and on second visit the venison and a rib eye. Good pint and nice crisp sauvignon blanc 😊

Great place, table service drinks and comfortable, spotlessly clean and lovely staff.

This is obviously a very popular place for the regulars who use it. The food truly was delicious, but when we went in, we felt we were not particularly welcome. The staff seemed a little cold toward us and we felt pushed to get done and go. We felt very uncomfortable with the staff scrutinising our every mouthful as if to say hurry up. Not for us I'm afraid, prefer a warm welcome.

Went to The Ring of Bells for the first time today, we were a party of 4 and we all had the Sunday roast. The food was excellent as was the service, we’ll definitely be going back.
