Called here for dinner before going to the theatre

Very welcoming lots of staff equals quick service. I asked for which real ale is recommended. The manager suggested the best. The food was not hot but well presented and delt with promptly. Overall nice warm and friendly.

Good Sunday lunch, but limited menu. If you have mobility issues be aware that the only access to the upstairs dining is a narrow staircase with turns, so if booking you may want to specify a downstairs table.

Nice beer garden next to cricket ground.

Went for drinks after a show. Table service was great with the first round of drinks. The second round of drinks was not such good service. We felt that we were in the way and was an inconvenience. A Shame as this was our first visit.

Favourite pub in Taunton! The food is guaranteed to be amazing, with a menu that offers lots of variety. When friends come to visit this is the first place we take them. Be sure to book ahead as it fills up quick. Ring of Bells has never let us down.

Table service for drinks is rare in England, but that's what you get here. Excellent real ales.

Popped in for a quick drink and a bite before the theatre as it looked a friendly welcoming pub, was meet by two rather unfriendly signs, Wait to be seated and no cash...so not so friendly after all and not for us. Guess the age of standing at the bar enjoying a pint and the atmosphere is lost in this pub.

I've been to The Ring Of Bells a number of times and every experience has been the same. Very friendly from the moment you enter, and service is prompt. The food is excellent, and the layout and overall feel of the place is very comfortable. Excellent.

Really friendly staff and so accommodating to our needs. We were a large group that had to be out in time for the theatre but with our meals preordered, everything ran like clockwork. The food was delicious and we had a really social space so the perfect evening before watching family perform at the theatre. Thank you

The Ring of Bells is a fantastic pub that ticks many boxes for a satisfying drinking experience. It boasts a commendable selection of alcoholic beverages, catering to various tastes and preferences. However, I must admit, cocktail enthusiasts might find themselves slightly disappointed as the pub doesn't offer cocktails on its menu. What sets the Ring of Bells apart for me is its inclusion of Sheppy's Low Alcohol cider—a personal favourite of mine. It's not often you come across such a quality low-alcohol option, and having it available here is a definite plus.

Substantial meal £6.00, beer £37.30. Bargain... The outside has been brought inside! Magic if you've been immunised but a little less magic if you haven't been immunised!

Consistently great food and convivial atmosphere. Service is attentive and prompt. Food intolerances and allergies catered for with minimum of fuss. Highly recommended.

Popped in for drinks only. Went to the bar to be told it's still table service only, which is fine if you get to sit together. On this occasion, my friend and I were sat on separate tables side by side but sat opposite strangers. This felt odd at first but the people were locals and conversations struck up, so in the end it enhanced the experience. Attentive service, we were asked as soon as our glasses were low, did we want another. It was a busy bustling atmosphere.

Busy pub close to the cricket ground, needed to wait a couple of mins for a table to become available. Table service and 5 ales on hand pumps.

We had a family get together to celebrate what would have been our Mum's 100th birthday. Our party of 13 were made hugely welcome. We dined in the upstairs room and everything was first class, especially the service. Thank you for making our day special.

We had to wait at the door to be seated. We were not allowed to stand at the bar. Drink prices were expensive. Needless to say if you want a traditional pub experience this is not it.

First but not last visit. Went for Sunday roast, with my Son. The food was on point, with a more than large enough portion size.

Seemed like a good atmosphere. But for some strange reason they would not except cash🤔had to leave after drink was served

We love to come here every time we visit family in the area. Always great service, and choice of drinks is excellent. We've had food here once before, which was really good, and the beer garden in the back when the weather is nice is an added bonus.

Nice atmosphere. Good food, including a Sunday nut roast for vegetarians. Only drops a star for limited ale range. I am a bit fussy mind, as I like dark beers....

Book ahead as this place gets busy very quickly, and I'm not surprised as the food is great

14 of us had our Christmas lunch at The Ring of Bells. They were so accommodating with our booking and made it so easy. The menu was great, food delicious and staff amazing. We had a lovely time and hope to book again next year.

We were absolutely delighted to have another lovely work Christmas Lunch at The Ring of Bells. As usual, food and customer service didn't disappoint! Very warm, welcoming atmosphere in well maintained space with an amazing food. A great choice of food for three course meal that needed to be pre-ordered. No photos of food, as food was disappearing from plates so fast that I haven't had a chance to take one 🤩 Highly recommended for group outings. We sure will be back again!

Excellent pub and very welcoming. Log fire and dog friendly. The owner/manager is hands on and personally welcomes everyone to his pub and know all the locals by name! Sadly we went on the busiest seasonal day and therefore could not sample their food but the pre booked party meals looked fab!

This was a lovely pub for drinking, with a stylish curved counter! The design is historical including the layout with glasses and designs on walls, staff were friendly too. I enjoyed a bottle of Corona Extra, sitting comfortably at classy seating!

Food was lovely, couldn't fault that but the deal breaker for me is the no cash policy. I eat out a lot and this new thing of not taking cash in restaurants is a real problem for me and will prevent me from returning. It is a real shame

Lively place with great service. The go to lunch venue.

Visited here with friends for a 60th birthday meal. The problem we had was the rugby was on in the main bar , with the volume up full blast , you could hardly hear yourself talk. Perhaps in future the ring of bells could take this in to account when seating people who have gone there to enjoy a peaceful evening . Why not seat people out of the way upstairs .. A little inconsiderate and lack of thought by The ring of bells on this occasion. in response to your reply , the fact that a once in a four year rugby tournament was being screened, Is no excuse for the management to seat customers right next to the bar knowing how noisy it would be.We were not there for the rugby , but to have a nice evening meal and pleasant experience. Any half decent customer focused establishment, Would have made the customer aware of this and given the chance to rebook. On this occasion it appears taking customers money was of more importance than them being able to enjoy a evening meal in peace.

Had an amazing meal at this pub two lunchtimes on the trot it was so good. Both service and meal. we’re excellent, just what we were looking for on our short visit to Taunton. Wished we lived nearer. Also a great atmosphere. We had seafood chowder and blade of beef first day both excellent and on second visit the venison and a rib eye. Good pint and nice crisp sauvignon blanc 😊

Great pub with very nice decor. We didn't have any food, but the food we saw coming out looked amazing.

They offer a nice range of local beers! We got some nice burger and fries and service is top notch!

Great place, table service drinks and comfortable, spotlessly clean and lovely staff.

This is obviously a very popular place for the regulars who use it. The food truly was delicious, but when we went in, we felt we were not particularly welcome. The staff seemed a little cold toward us and we felt pushed to get done and go. We felt very uncomfortable with the staff scrutinising our every mouthful as if to say hurry up. Not for us I'm afraid, prefer a warm welcome.

Went to The Ring of Bells for the first time today, we were a party of 4 and we all had the Sunday roast. The food was excellent as was the service, we’ll definitely be going back.

with the rice noodle and the sauce, it s like finding asian flavour in the dish. The pork belly also is very tender .

Great pub just off the main shopping area of Taunton. We were a party of eight, sat on the same table comfortably. Sunday roast was great, my wife had the crab and was very happy. Afterwards we retired to the outside area at the back as it was cooler. Attentive and friendly team, we really enjoyed our visit.

Food very disappointing - the starter of burrata was frozen in the middle, the croutons and pancetta on the Caesar salad were one shade short of cremains and the dressed crab had no white meat at all, it had been replaced with coleslaw which had no hint of the promised lime and fennel, and the garlic bread side was so salty it was inedible. If a pub is going to serve pretentious food customers tend to expect them know how to cook it. Service was excellent however and we were reluctant to ask the young girl to carry our complaints to the kitchen as she had done an excellent job serving us.

Really good pub, good food, good atmosphere and good service. I am really confused that the pub is cash free, but we were told we could pay in cash, but would not be provided change. In my day change usually turned into a staff tip, but the comment by staff has made me think that this maybe my only visit.

Fantastic place. Great food - quality matches the price. Can tell it’s fresh and made to order. Chips in particular were notably tasty. Friendly staff. Nice atmosphere and lots of outdoor seating. Good to see card only! Will definitely visit again

A lovely pub with a wonderful, warm welcome and gorgeous smoke-free beer garden/outside dining area. We opted for the beer-battered fish and it was to die for. Service was fantastic - American standard - and the beer and atmosphere were great. Can’t recommend enough.

Went for a Sunday roast here with seven of us. All the staff were great from the booking to the end of the meal, and the food was amazing. Best roast I've had in three years of living in Somerset.

Went there for drinks after work with a bunch of friends. Good service, nice beer. No disabled toilet.

Nice pub with a decent outdoor space, and a wide selection of beers. The fact it's table service only is a bit weird, lots of staff constantly buzzing around does change the atmosphere. That said, the service was good and swift.

Great port of call, well kept real ales and decent food, walkable from footy ground and next to cricket ground, should be on any sports visitors itinerary, was tempted to forgo the sport just to stay there

Call me old fashioned but I much preferred this pub a few years ago. It used to be a proper spit and sawdust pub, which I loved, but now all modern which I am really not keen on. Not crazy about table service for drinks. Sorry.

Not a pub. More a restaurant which does beer. Understood the serving arrangements under covid but to keep them the same now is ridiculous. Ruined what was a great pub.
