At Tristans in Taunton Deane

We had been to Tristan’s before the pandemic hit and always intended on returning. We decided to celebrate this years wedding anniversary here and it didn’t disappoint. From the service to the delicious food we had a fabulous evening. My husband commented that the lemon crème brûlée was the best he’d ever tasted. We will be back SOON.

I rated Tristan’s as 5/5. The food was superb, unusual, beautifully served and absolutely delicious. I can highly recommend the monkfish tails and the cheese cake is to die for!

Visited Tristan’s and had a lovely meal. The service is excellent and the food is amazing. The restaurant has a cosy, warm and welcoming atmosphere and the staff couldn’t do enough for us. The two course menu is good value for money and our food was beautifully presented and delicious. This place is a gem.

It was my birthday and with my partner, we wanted to find a new place where we could enjoy a good meal. We were not disappointed at all! @Tristans is a charming small restaurant where the food is tasty and the staff very friendly!

From the moment our party arrived the waitresses were friendly and polite, nothing was too much trouble from the very beginning. The starters were all delicious but there was food envy across the table over the roast sirloin starter which was seared to perfection.There was a small error with one of the mains, but it was resolved quickly and we were compensated more than suitably. Both steaks for our table were cooked beautifully when they arrived and the pork chop was an incredible portion! I personally had the beef bourguignon and the red wine sauce was the most delicious thing I've had for a very long time! One of our party considers herself a 'burger' connoisseur and was very impressed by the steak burgers. All of our alterations (no mushroom or tomato on a steak, no pulled pork on the burger) were catered for without issue and were replaced with more delights such as extra onion rings or cheese!Although not the Christmas meal we originally planned, we were pleasantly surprised by this little treasure and all of us would be more than happy to come back both as a group and individually with partners and friends! Georgie is an absolute gem and a pleasure to communicate with, compliments to the entire kitchen team and great thanks to the front of house staff for such a wonderful evening.

Lovely meal as always. Food was delicious and good choices. It was a birthday meal so nice not to have a Christmas dinner in December. We had a dairy free person who was extremely well catered for. She had pre order but plenty of choice and good options. We look forward to returning soon.

This was my first experience of Tristan's and i was very impressed on all levels.The menu was exciting and included a great selection of meat, fish and veggie dishes and between the 2 of us, we experienced a combination of all 3. I started with the beetroot burger, which had a rich depth of flavours and the steamed bun that accompanied it was pleasant, and something I had not eaten before.My wife had the whitebait, which she really enjoyed.For mains, I went for the belly pork, which had a lovely crackling and was succulent throughout. It was accompanied by roasted baby beets, potatoes and other veg, with a delicious gravy.The other dish was the Plaice and mussels, which there was of a good portion size, the accompanying veg once again hit the spot.We partnered the meal with a bottle of Portuguese Red wine 'Coreto', which happened to be the cheapest on the list at £16.50 and we were really surprised by the flavour and smoothness. We have tasted lots of Portuguese wines over the years, and this was up there with the best. So much so, we are seeking some out for the wine rack!The staff were attentive, knowledgeable and friendly, knowing when to leave you alone, and when to be at your service.It really made it a perfect evening for our wedding anniversary and we look forwards to returning again, by ourselves and also with some friends and family.

We have visited Tristans several times and it is always lovely. The service is great and the food very tasty …good value for money too. Will be back again soon.

This was our first visit to Tristans. We had come to visit my husbands parents who live in Taunton and they wanted to take us out as a treat. We were not disappointed our two course meal was fantastic and very tasty. Great value and a good choice. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back when we are next back. The Christmas menu looks lovely.

Before I go in to any kind of negatives, I have to say that the waitresses were absolutely lovely and the food was really nice. The flavours were perfectly complimenting one another and it was all deliciously hot.The reason for the 3 star however was the overall experience. My partner and I decided to try out Tristan's as we ha heard so many great things about it. Our small table of 2 was placed right next to a birthday party of 10. There was absolutely no way we could talk to one another without literally shouting, despite the fact we were sat next to each other (not opposite which was a bit odd).The table of 10 bumped in to our table several times and I could literally reach out and tap their party on the shoulder, that's how close we were. Due to this, I'm in no rush to return. Is it a good place for a bigger group with good food? Yes. Is it a good place for a couple having an intimate meal? No.We were in and out in the space of about 30 - 40 minutes as we just no longer wanted to be in there.

Stopped In Taunton on route to Devon 17.09.21. Didn't know the area or this Bistro, but Trip Advisor posts gave it good rating . Was a great find; Excellent food, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Would definitely book again if back in the area

My husband and I went to Tristan's on Saturday evening for a meal as it was my birthday.This is the second time we've been there and it certainly won't be the last, the staff are so lovely and friendly and as for the food.... it is wonderful, cooked and presented beautifully!! They even went to the trouble of putting a birthday candle in the top of my dessert . This is definitely our favourite place to go for a meal and all being well we will be be returning soon..

Our first visit.Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, good competitively priced wine list. Enjoyed my smoked salmon starter. Husband liked his arancini too.I was disappointed with my monkfish tails, found a few bones & it wasn't as tender as it could have been . Sauce was tasty, but raw cherry tomatoes in it? Too many chunks of new potato & green beans were undercooked.Husband enjoyed belly pork, I tried it but found the vanilla in the red wine gravy a tad overpowering. Dessert of honey tart was OK, very sweet & raspberry flavour didn't give enough fruity contrast, pastry was very crisp/hard!I know I'm super critical & there were some good touches. I'd go back & try some other dishes on the future.

Georgie was fabulous from first contact to the night itself.Lots of communication over bringing decorations and cake which she was happy to accommodate and let us decorate the table etc.The food was lovely, we had a mix of vegans and vegetarians and nothing was too much trouble.We had a great night and were very noisy but no one minded and the service was excellent!Thank you to all the staff for a fab night. We will be back :-)

We had a fantastic meal at Tristans. We have had to eat out quite a lot recently due to our home being flooded and this was by far the best meal we have had. The starters were exceptional and my monktails were delicious.The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We will definitely go back again soon!

Four of us in Taunton to watch cricket. Found Tristans via Trip Advisor and the excellent reviews were spot on. We had three courses with a cocktail and wine and thoroughly enjoyed all our meals - great service and pleasant surroundings - a first class experience

Stopped in Taunton en route to Cornwall and booked Tristan's online based on reviews. We found the whole experience fabulous from start to finish. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. Can’t fault this place, the best food I’ve had in a long time at a very reasonable price. Everything about our visit was perfect, the ladies serving were also brilliant and so friendly. Thank you!

We chose this restaurant because it had things on the menu which were different to the normal offering, eg, the brie en croute which was delicious, and I might try the beetroot cake next time. The only thing that let the food down slightly was the cookie dough dessert which instead of being warm and soft was cold and very firm. However, this is an observation not a complaint! The portion sizes were just right. The waitress was attentive without being pushy. Unfortunately, the occupants of the table near ours were rather loud which did spoil the ambience slightly. Overall though it was a very enjoyable evening out and we will definitely visit again as this is a lovely little bistro. Thank you.

First time here as we live about 20 miles away, little gem of a place Food was fab and great value had two course for GBP 22 Lots of choices hard to decide what to have I had ribs then sea bass go back next time we in area for sure

Have been to this wonderful restaurant 3 times in the last few months and cannot fault it. The service is great, the food is consistently perfect and varied and the staff couldn't be more helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend!

Our second visit, this time with friends. Once again excellent food, friendly & efficient service. Only disappointment was the cookie dough dessert which I found very heavy! I will choose something else on my next visit.

My partner and I visited Tristan's for a much needed date night. I can safely say its the best food I've had in Taunton in years, if not ever.Started with the Brie and the Skewer, both were delicious. Brie just about melting, lovely golden wax and portioned brilliantly. Duck Breast and the Sirloin Steak to follow did not disappoint, cooked to perfection. Accompanied with wine ensured for a superb dining experience that I would highly reccomend to anyone visiting or living nearby. Absolutely worth it

Nothing short of spectacular… the food is well balanced and beautifully paired. my folk eat meat whilst myself and husband are veggie and the options are fantastic, off the beaten track and unique, but equally tasty the two waitress where both very good polite and on top not missing a beat the whole experience was pleasant and highly enjoyable. Our daughter recommended Tristans after a visit for an Anniversary. My Wife and I had a lovely evening. The room at the rear was very pleasant. Service was both fast and friendly.There was a good choice of food and was all cooked perfectly and delicous. Would certainly go back again.

Came up from South Devon for the T20 cricket, but couldn't get in due COVID and our tickets being refunded. Last minute booking in Tristans. East Reach not the most celubrious street, but Tristans, what a find. Service was attentive and professional, yet friendly. Menu had a couple of unusual items so we ordered a mixture. Food was superb, especially the duck which came with loads of fresh veg. Chef even made a bespoke dessert for my partner as those on the menu did not appeal to her. Great value for money with the 2 or 3 course set prices. I would definitely recommend and would visit again if in Taunton.

The food and service was excellent. I’m vegetarian but my partner more of a carnivore. We were both really pleased with our food. We were on holiday staying near Taunton and would go back if we easily could. The reason why we cannot easily comment on ambiance is we visited midweek, early evening; it was quiet. We may prefer this but i know some prefer to have more ‘noise’. If you live or visit the area pay a visit.

Tristan's is a cosy, friendly restaurant. We don't know the area and I booked on line. We were really pleasantly surprised - the food was excellent, tasty, great quality, cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. I had the Cod and Chorizo fishcake to start and my partner had the Tuscan soup followed by the Pork Belly and Beetroot Cakes. We couldn't fault anything - the menu is concise and exciting!

Booked this online, very last minute, 2 hours before we ate. We were welcomed on arrival as if we were regulars, rather than just first time visitors. Selecting from the menu was difficult, too many delicious sounding options. We had starters of fish cake and ribs. Both fabulous. Cod and chorizo is definitely a winning combination. For mains we had sea bass, perfect, with a really gorgeous selection of veg and chicken risotto. A good sized portion, but then it was doubled when the waitress brought out the other half of the chicken breast that chef hadn’t plated up. Delightful! No room for dessert. Great selection of wines, we had the Chilean sauv Blanc. If we lived in Taunton we would be here every other week. Thank you Tristan, a great meal at a an excellent price.

Our second visit in 3 weeks. Staff fabulous, food fabulous. Overall a great experience in lovely surroundings. Can’t praise them enough. Looking forward to our next visit.

We were staying locally and saw the great reviews, so booked a table for our last night. Everything about the experience was top notch. Great service with prices at a really fair cost but most importantly the food was excellent. Wish we lived closer!

Having recently moved to the area, we visited Tristans as reviews have all been superb. Went on Friday, the first week after lockdown restrictions were lifted. Everything about our visit was first class, from the service to the food. My partner had the fried Brie which she thoroughly enjoyed. The mackerel was good too, although too much onion for my liking. We then both had belly pork which was fabulous, loads of pork & the whole dish was very tasty indeed. As it was my partner’s birthday I had arranged for Georgie to make a cake which was covered in chocolate buttercream & large white buttons. Georgie brought this out with one lit candle which was a lovely surprise for my partner. Although it cost £12 it was well worth it! We left the restaurant feeling very full & satisfied, with most of the cake to polish off during the rest of the week. This restaurant is very popular & we can certainly see why. We shall definitely return some time.

I ate here twice during August fortunate to get a cancellation for my second trip. The Covid security was reassuringly high and the standard of the food was excellent. Service was great and I will Be booking again. Thank you.

Ambience is really good, staff very friendly and welcoming, attentive and efficient service throughout, food was fantastic, pork belly was particularly good, excellent choice of wine we had a really good Merlot at a very reasonable price. We had an issue with a pint of lager and it was dealt with quickly and efficiently with no fuss. We will be back.

I've always had my eye on this restaurant but for some reason we'd never tried it. When I saw that they were part of the eat out the help out scheme we thought not was our chance and luckily booked before they filled up! It was a lovely restaurant, deceptively bigger on this inside but the back room we were in still felt private. The staff were friendly and the service was super quick. It was a very hot day and due to covid fans weren't allowed but we still thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was great and having 2 courses filled us up completely. As part of the deal it was a very good price but even full price seems very reasonable for a 'nicer' place. We will definitely visit again as an ocassion type restaurant!

As part of the EOTHO we decided to try new places to branch out our restaurant experiences. Tristans in Taunton is definitely an amazing find and easily a new favourite!The service was excellent and the atmosphere was cosy.I visited with my wife who is vegetarian and ordered the butternut soup and the savoy parcels. Both were excellent and filling!I ordered the pulled pork croquettes and the pork belly. The croquettes were incredible with great flavours, the pork belly main was just as good and something id love to order in the future.We booked because of the eat out to help out scheme but we will be back again!!! 5 stars

Recently visited whilst staying in in Taunton and would highly recommend. I had the poached egg on black pudding for starter, I don't usually do black pudding but it was delicious. Whilst for main I again went outside of the box me and went for the meat free Portobello mushroom with beetroot and butternut nutloaf stuff which to be honest didn't look all that but oh my it was delicious.The meal for 2x people and drinks was very reasonable and I would definitely recommend.

Great from first walking in. Friendly staff & warm, slightly rustic ambience. Tables well spaced & felt completely safe throughout. Set 2 course menu included 8 starters & 8 mains, most of which could be adapted to be gluten-free, either by pre-order or when there (they will send downloadable GF menu on request). Sweets available if you can fit them!Wine prices reasonable & fair choice, but got seduced by the wonderful draught Taunton cider! A real treat. Beer on tap too, plus other bottled local ciders.Altogether a lovely evening out & will return.

Went as part of the eat out to help out scheme so a bit of a bargain. Hubby paid extra to have the steak and it looked and tasted amazing- well worth treating yourself to. The belly pork was the tastiest dish I've had in a long time. Dessert was a little disappointing but the starters and mains more than made up for it. Thanks for a lovely evening x

You know sometimes you have food so good you can’t stop thinking about it afterwards..this is one of those times. It was absolutely delicious and I can see why we were recommended this little gem of a place! Beautifully presented food and perfect portion sizes. Can’t wait to come back.

We booked a table for two on last week for the Friday evening. All of the social distancing and everything was very clear. The staff were really friendly and polite. It was very nice to hear them enjoying their job from the friendly conversations we could hear and even with the face coverings on, it was still a service with a smile. We both had the Pulled Pork Croquettes for a starter and the Duck as a main (pictured). The starter was wonderful and so tasty, while the duck was gorgeous. It could’ve been cooked a little bit more for preference, however we had no issues with this and the waitress did inform us before placing our order on how it is cooked. It was actually delicious and I would order this again in a heartbeat. I wish I had room for pudding, however sadly I was too full from all the gorgeous food. Definitely next time!!

Very good place to eat in Taunton. The best discovery of 2020. We were 6 and we both agreed on the fact that it was the best meal we had in 2020. I'll definitely share and recommend to everyone I know in Taunton. Thank you

This was our first visit to Tristan's since lockdown, we booked the garden room as I had my parents with us and wanted them to feel safe. However, due to the safety measures in place, we could of dined in the main restaurant as the tables are very spaced out, as you can see from the video on Facebook. The four of us had a fabulous meal, 2 x Pork Croquettes and 2 x Brie for starters, all very nice. Mains, we had chicken, duck, belly pork and a burger and everyone complimeted on the flavours. Two of us found room for dessert, 1 white choc and baileys cheesecake and 1 choc orange creme brulee, I found the cheesecake quite overpowering, as the shot of baileys was poured onto the cheesecake instead of added to the cheesecake mix. Still nice. Overall, great first experience, well done guys.

Visited on 10/07/2020 was a very nice setting and organised post lockdown. Food was very well presented and taste was great. Partner had the poached egg starter and was blown away by the flavours, pulled pork croquets were also very tasty!Only polite suggestion would be to add bread or something with the Brie as the Brie starter comes as a solid piece of Brie which we thought could have been complimented with bread.Will be coming back shortly ! We had the pleasure of having our works xmas do at Tristians. The booking was for a large party and Georgie was so patient with my never ending emails back and forth. Nothing was too much trouble and she made my job pretty stress free. The food on the evening was amazing. I have never heard so many compliments. It was so lovely to see everyone letting their hair down and enjoying themselves. Thank you so much to the whole team for making our early xmas do so wonderful.

Had been wanting to try Tristans for a meal and was certainly not disappointed. The food was excellent, some lovely choices on the menu on all 3 courses. Our party throughly enjoyed the ox cheek wellington, and the belly of pork. Vegetables were beautifully cooked. Finished up with the creme brûlée - to die for but filling ! Staff were very helpful and not overly attentive. Very good value for money and lovely environment - will definitely return soon

What can I say. Best yet. Didn't help it was our wedding coming out meal (got married in NYC on Tuesday). Fantastic by staff, Chef and friends as always.

Had a fabulous evening - great food and great service. Everything was fab, we were a group of 12 and everything came out together and hot. Thank you Georgie and Ashley for a great night.

Met up with a crowd of old friends for a catch up dinner and loved this place. Very friendly and helpful young waiting staff. The bistro is a bit like a railway carriage, but the best use is made of the space and it is comfortable. There were two or three other largish parties arrived after us and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. We did pre-order, but £20 or £23 for two courses, was excellent value and the food was delicious. Paid a lot more for underwhelming food at a South East gastro pub a few days earlier, so it was refreshing to pay a lot less for really nicely cooked and well presented food.

The food was great and the staff were very friendly and attentive. My only comment, and in fairness, it's just down to personal taste, I thought the restaurant lacked atmosphere. The interior decoration was a bit lacking in imagination. However, It was a lovely place if you're after an intimate dining experience.

Hadn't been to Tristans, for a long time, I now regret that after my recent visit.

My wife and I took a gamble on going to this little restaurant at the end of the High Street in Taunton. The restaurant goes back to a lovely garden Room and the food which came out of the tiny little galley kitchen was incredible.

I had a Christmas meal at Tristan's in December 2018 and I have to say it was very good. They cater for vegetarian and gluten free so a bonus. Service was excellent. Can't fault it the food.

We came to enjoy dinner out with old friends and could not have been happier. Drinks took a bit longer than they should have given the size of the place, but that really is our only criticism.

We booked Tristan’s Bistro for our daughters’ 30th Birthday party (on the recommendation of others). I booked several months in advance and from the start Georgie was absolutely fantastic; responding to any queries promptly and doing her utmost to accommodate all my requests and requirements. The 14 of us in our party were able to have the rear room to ourselves on this occasion and this made for an intimate yet spacious area for us to eat and mingle. The food was absolutely wonderful and credit must go to Ashley for his imaginative menu. If you want a venue that is different, yet relaxing and where you are guaranteed great service and fabulous food (with a twist) then Tristan’s is the place to go. We are delighted to have discovered this gem in the heart of Taunton and cannot recommend it highly enough. Our thanks again to Georgie, Ashley and their team for making our celebration so special!

Decided to book somwhere differed and we wernt disappointed. All the food was great and the service was good too. It looked like they had under estimated how bust they were going to be and the waitress looked very rushed. It didn't effect our service though we will be back again soon

We found the restaurant online, otherwise we might not have seen it as it is is little bit further out from Taunton centre than others. The fixed price menu (with minor surcharges for more expensive meats) is good value - and you can have a starter or dessert in the 2 course option. The service was friendly and the food was excellent. Recommended.

Not been here for a while and forgotten how good it is. Good varied range of starters and mains, all with a twist but not too outlandish. Very hard to choose so we will be back soon to try something else. Cocktails went down very nicely. Nice atmosphere and good service, all very fairly priced. Well worth a visit.

What a great place with good customer service. I booked online and said that one of the party had a couple of allergies. When we arrived they gave them a list of the foods he couldn't have, really thoughtful and no-one else has ever done this.

Ate here with 2 colleagues. We hadn’t booked, so we’re very pleased to get a table on a wet, windy evening in April. One of us was wheat free, which was managed pleasantly and professionally. Lovely, lovely food: I started with the mushrooms in cider on ciabatta, and followed it with the belly pork and sage mash...delicious. Colleagues had the scotch egg and smoked duck starters, followed by the chicken tagine and belly pork. We shared a bottle of wine, and moved on to desserts: one crème brûlée, one chocolate tart and one cheese course. Fantastic value, and great friendly service, nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

We went with friends who had not been before and we were all blown away by the food especially the fillet steak which was fabulously cooked and clearly of a good quality, the service was good and it is great value with sensibly priced wine which is always a bonus.

First visit for quite while, bit of a forgotten restaurant so it was nice to visit for a family birthday meal. Although we had a very noisy table next to us (peaceful when they had left) the whole ambience was very good and we were well looked after by Carly our waitress who is apparently the current Miss Taunton!.

Really lovely restaurant, fabulous food and great service by Georgia who is the perfect hostess. 😀😀😀😀
