We have been here a few times for family and work celebrations. Today we celebrated our 40th with family and a group of friends. The food was superb. From perfectly cooked Halloumi fries, bread and dips to start through a superb Sunday roast with the best yorkshires ever, to a great dessert. However what really makes a great venue is the staff - I cannot speak highly enough … you are an awesome team. Thank you.

I can’t fault the food or the price at this restaurant. We did enjoy and the setting was beautiful - the hall itself is really impressive. Only feedback : I feel like they’ve missed a trick! When we told a local we were going there it raised an eyebrow - they considered it very highly and on arrival, I understood why. But on seeing the menu, I couldn’t help but be a little disappointed. For such prestigious surroundings and a grand entrance, I was surprised the menu consisted of burger, curry and fish and chips. I was expecting fine dining and locally sourced ingredients to match the high level of service and location. I would happily have paid more than the £14 main course price tag for something a little more special. As I said, the food was good - just a little underwhelming as it had the feeling of being bought in / pre made (example - the pâté). I would recommend the chicken pie but not the brownie - it wasn’t really a brownie and needed ice cream or cream with it.

Rooms were very good. There was a bit of noise from the road but nothing to worry about. There were 4 of us and the ones who had steak were very pleased with it, another had the vegetarian burger which was very good (although there was no side salad, just burger and chips). I had the pie of the day (beef and mushroom) and was disappointed with it because it came sitting on what looked like steamed spinach, the only vegetable, so it went very soggy round the bottom plus the gravy didn’t appear to be “real gravy” although I was assured it was.

Marshfield is a beautiful village and The Catherine Wheel is a beautiful place, with a cosy bar, a crackling log fire and amazing food! We were a family group, all of whom had travelled over 100 miles in different directions for a memorial service in a neighbouring village; we needed a good meal before setting off home again! The Catherine Wheel was warm and welcoming with a lovely panelled dining room and a good atmosphere. We had vegans and gluten intolerant people in our party and everybody was catered for beautifully, with a well-labelled menu and plenty of choice. Food was delicious and portions were enormous! It is somewhere we would definitely go again.
