Rose & Crown in South Gloucestershire

We were staying local to the pub after popping in Friday evening, we had to go back for dinner on the Saturday. It was truly fantastic honest homemade food, the scotch egg was up there with one of the best I’ve had. Then having the pie of the day it set the bar even higher, couldn’t fault anything about our experiences there and certainly added to our weekend away. Thank you and keep doing what you’re doing.

We walked in, expecting it to be quiet, but it was very busy. They moved some tables around to accommodate us. Short staffed but everyone working very hard to provide good service. Lovely lunch In a good atmosphere.

The best Sunday roast ever! Super large portion, had the trio roast, pork, beef & chicken, with pigs in blankets, crackling, yorkshire pud & stuffing! Five veg, plus complimentary cauli cheese, normally a side order you have to pay for…. Dan was an excellent host, and his team very attentive. Have recommended to friends & family to come too!

Service is top-notch. We inadvertently made a reservation at the wrong Rose & Crown but they accommodated us and went over the top… even though they were overbooked. They made room for us. Excellent food & service. We highly recommend.

Pucklefest really outdid itself this year. Amazing atmosphere, food was lovely and the music was great. Brilliant local festival, a 10 min walk from our house. We loved it so much we went for the 3 days and can't wait until next year!

Came to see a mate's band for Pucklefest but the queue for the bar was out the door with ONE bar staff on. Didn't get a drink and only stayed for 40 mins. Poorly planned. Band were great tho and the Puckfest was a great little get together.

Excellent Friday evening meal - the steak tender and the sauce actually having some flavour, the chicken tasty and for both the vegetables well presented and enjoyable. The restaurant wasn't crowded but the service was quick and cheerful. Certainly worth a return visit.

We booked the Rose and Crown for a 1 night stop over and booked a table in the dog friendly bar area. We arrived early and they were very helpful and found a table earlier than booked. The bar area was nice, with a good selection of beers. For starters, we ordered a whipped feta which was lovely and some hot honey chicken wings, which were average, not much chilli taste. For our main course, we opted for the Steak and Ale pie, and Tomato and Basil Chicken stuffed with ricotta. Both very good. The staff were really good and happy to help. Stopping in the car park was very good, right next to the Llamas. Gate gets locked over nigh, but opens quite early. Great place to stay and eat.

We had a wonderful meal at this lovely pub. It's a great layout inside, lots of tables but still has that country pub feel about it. Food is excellent, good selection of beers, staff are lovely, atmosphere is great, what more do you need.

Had my mum's wake here. Food was absolutely lovely, everyone commented on how delicious it was especially the homemade Scones. Staff were super friendly. I've taken a star off due to the fact that we were unable to hear the playlist of music we had put together. Music was a big part of mum's life and we took quite a few hours putting it together so to not be able to hear it in the bit of the pub we was in was disappointing. Had I of know this I could of bought my blue tooth speaker along. Regardless of this we were very pleased with how the wake turned out. Thank you 😊

Great pie. Decent prices, good service

The food was not good. We're we're a family group of 5 and unfortunately no one was happy with the quality of meal provided.

Really bad experience today. We went for Sunday lunch and has the roast beef. It came out with large amounts of fat on it. It completely put me off my meal and was inedible. Also the cauliflower cheese was burnt and the potatoes were not crispy they were undercooked Although I have been there several times in the past although not for several months I will not be returning.

Slow food service but friendly. Not many there for lunch perhaps an indicator. Pretty garden with alpacas. Unfortunately the food was not great. Could do better.

Held Mum's wake here, brilliant. The buffet was great and they catered for Gluton free too which the guests weren't expecting. The Alpacas were a welcome diversion to the days other events!

Visited this lovely country pub for lunch. Cosy surroundings and a warm welcome from staff. Extensive menu available but also a special lunchtime menu offering 1 course for £13.00, 2 courses for £15.50 We opted for the special menu which was excellent value for money and with good choice of starters, mains and desserts. Food quality was also excellent and staff were attentive to needs without being intrusive. Drinks were average pub prices but with good selection of real ales, ciders, lagers and wine. Only 10 minutes from M4 J18 and between Bristol and Bath it is well worth a visit. There is also an extensive Beer Garden when weather permits.

Booked an area for a wake. Buffet food provided was good and price reasonable. Close proximity from westerleighly crematorium. Staff welcoming and professional. Have also had a family Sunday lunch and thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely recommend .

This is such a fascinating old building with loads of antique character. You just look around and stare and smile constantly - or you should! The service and meal we enjoyed was fine and far from expensive, a very big and interesting menu. Recommended for sure.

Took my Uncle who was visiting out to lunch at the Rose & Crown Pucklechurch. Its a lovely country pub with a really nice atmosphere. The lunch time deal is very reasonable with 2 courses at £15 and 3 courses at £18. Two of us went for the lunch time deal and there was a good variety of choice. It was noted that it was great to see blanchbait and Liver & onions on the menu as not seen very often ( my husband went for these courses plus the crumble) I had garlic mushrooms, hunters chicken & sticky toffee pudding which was all very nice. My Uncle commented that the homemade pie was superb and apple & rhubarb crumble was one of best he'd had. Our server Jas was was also very friendly and welcoming. All in all a really nice visit and will deffinately recommend to family & friends.

Me and my family had a roast dinner here last week and we absolutely loved every single bite of the food especially me who isn't one who typically likes a roast. It was superb the staff are incredibly friendly and it makes you feel welcomed and warm with how they treat customers would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who lives local or is in the area visiting!!!

We booked our table for 13.15. We were told the kitchen was busy. But we waited over an hour for our food. The chicken dish was over cooked. Could not cut it. Liver was tough. We were offered no compensation for the wait.

We had a wonderful valentine's evening and meal here yesterday, as usual the food and service were great. We visit regularly and are always welcomed with a smile. They regularly have events, I especially enjoy the painting classes on a Thursday. Special thanks to Megan who made our evening very special.

The beer was awful, reeked and tasted of beer line cleaner. The main room is laid out like a canteen and is unappealing. Food poor quality and high price. Long delays too. Best avoided.

Popped in on the off chance for lunch. Even though it was valentines day, and we hadn't booked, we were made to feel very welcome. We both ordered mushrooms to start, with rump steaks to follow. We were then asked by Beth if we would like to have the Valentines special. We got a bottle of wine to go with our steaks as an upgrade. Unfortunately too full to try a pudding. Mea and Beth both checked back on us to make sure everything was OK. Lots of people were in a happy chatty vibe going on in this rural pub. Lovely touch of fresh flowers on the tables.

Very poor food, wont be going back. Dreadfully overcooked veg, you wont need your dentures in. Staff pleasant and Pet alpacas a bonus entertainment!

This used to be a brilliant local , but the last visit was dire ,,, none of us finished our food , was awful 😞 Chef changes on a regular basis so let’s hope they are back to their old self soon

I was there with a few friends for the pub quiz. I was on-call at work so i stupidly ordered food and of course I got a call. 45 minutes later, When I got back my food was in a takeaway box. They offered to reheat and the waitress took away and actually brought me a freshly made one and it was delicious. I was very grateful to the waitress and the chefs. We didn't win the quiz but we had a great time.

This is our local country pub that we have regularly visited for 30+ years. The current setup is favourable when compared to previous incumbents but perhaps not the best we’ve experienced. Waiting and bar staff are friendly, polite and efficient. The food menu is good with a variety of choice to suit all tastes (recently really liked the Burns week specials) and the choice of drinks is good. However the lack of friendliness of the landlady and one of the bar managers is sometimes disappointing.

Our visit for Sunday Lunch exceeded our expectations. The choice of meats available was fantastic, and they had a lovely mushroom and chestnut Wellington as the veggie option, which was delicious! Hubbie had the pork that had a good piece of crackling with it. Both roasts came with cabbage, brocolli, parsnip, carrot, roasties, a Yorkshire pudding, and a shared side of cauliflower cheese. My little one just had chips, but they were homemade, which she was thrilled about. We sat in the restaurant, which was quiet enough to chat but still felt lively. The service was great, very attentive, and asked about allergens straight up, which I love ❤️ They also had ootions on the menu that were not roast dinners, which is a plus as you don't always fancy a roast! Catered for group of 28 for a late Xmas dinner. Food was excellent with good choice and delivered quickly. Staff were attentive, friendly and welcoming. A good evening was had by all and well worth a visit. Thank you.

Stopped off on the way back to south wales from bath and found this through google. Turned up and i believe the server was called megan, it was very busy but she found us space and was amazing. The food was absolutely incredible. So much so that even though we live over an hour away, we are stopping off after a visit to friends again in a few weeks. Thank you and keep up the good work!

Went with a group for a Christmas meal. The restaurant was full and the food was good (managing expectations that it was being cooked in bulk.) The waiting staff were very polite and very tolerant of a particular diner. Great time had.

Twelve people from a Walking Group had a prearranged lunch arranged at this very pleasant and homely Pub. The organisation and serving of the meals was carried out very efficiently and in a friendly manner. We had a bit of a wait as another large party of 16 people were at another table, but this wasn’t a problem and we were kept informed of timescale. My three course Special was ‘special’ and the food was excellent in quality and portion. Everyone without exception had high praise for the food and the efficiency. We all made a point of thanking the Staff for a very good Lunch experience.

The burger didn’t even have a bun, it was just bread cut out in a circle. The banoffee Sunday was just a cup filled to the with clotted cream. And the cheese cake was salty and tasted like actual cheddar cheese. The chips were disgusting , tasted rotten and looked gross. And the food took over 1 hour to come to our table.

Very disappointed after reading such great reviews. We were a table of 4 and had to wait over an hour for food.... Our food obviously stuck behind another larger tables order. The service was abismal and no updates on food times. Food was OK.... Nothing special.... My wife's medium rare steak came out well done... Garlic bread was anemic. The whole experience certainly didn't warrant the price and we won't be returning unfortunately.

Had a few drinks before dinner, nice cozy pub. Starters were lovely, we had the mushrooms on Bread and the bread with olives and oils. Mains were like Home cooked food, nice presentation, we tried the pork loin dish and the duck breast dish, we both never liked black pudding and it was in the mash, and both enjoyed it, really buttery and delicious. Cracking was perfect too. Staff were fabulous and very attentive.

We booked for a large table of 19 guests and everyone had Sunday lunch & some deserts. They catered for younger guests & went out of their way to look after me as I have Coeliac Disease in which everything was keep separate. The food was absolutely amazing, the best Sunday lunch we've had in years! A massive thankyou to Jas, Rhianne and all of the staff you made our lunch very enjoyable! We'll be back again.

Me and my boyfriend came here whilst staying in a airbnb nearby and read the reviews so had high expectations. The atmosphere was nice and cosy in the pub which we enjoyed. The starters were very nice we ordered the garlic mushrooms and olives, bread and oils. We then ordered the chicken burger and sea bass for mains which was slightly disappointing; it was edible just not what I was expecting from all the great reviews. We had a lovely time but probably wouldn’t visit again. However the staff were very kind and attentive which is a bonus 🙂

A one hour and twenty minute wait for two sandwiches from the lunch menu (on a Wednesday)… I would have much preferred to have been told this expected wait time upon sitting down, so that we could have had a quick coffee and found somewhere else. Instead, I left feeling unsatisfied, leading to - as many people do - wanting to post this one star review. No acknowledgement at the end of the meal either from any staff about our wait, which speaks volumes in that this must be a regular occurrence. The waitresses were very polite and did a good job regardless. Maybe a manager with higher standards and a watchful eye would have picked up on these glaringly obvious problems.

I strongly urge you to avoid this establishment if you value punctuality and efficiency. My partner and I endured a painfully slow lunch experience at this place today. Despite having ample time, we missed our scheduled appointment elsewhere due to the excruciatingly tardy service. It was a torturous wait of well over an hour for our sandwiches and chips to arrive at our table, all while the pub remained surprisingly uncrowded. The two other tables also harbored disgruntled groups of people, seething with frustration over the sluggish service. Placing our order was a grueling 20-30 minute ordeal, only to be followed by an agonising additional 45 minutes for a meager sandwich. The service was so unbearably sluggish that we contemplated abandoning our meal. When the food did arrive, it was shockingly subpar in taste, leaving us utterly astounded that a so-called 'chef' took such an eternity to slap together a lackluster ciabatta and chips. This was nothing short of a culinary catastrophe.

A few rare visits but this place has never disappointed. Booking advised but not essential this is a nice sized pub with a choice of more relaxed pub lounge like seating or a more formal restaurant setting. Menu is the same in both but nice to have the choice. Menu is a combination of pub classics and some more specific choices. Also a set lunch menu that is great value for 2 or 3 courses and made up of a selection from the main menu. Also, alpacas in the garden (along with plenty of parking) which you can feed by buying a bag of their food for £1.

We arranged for a table of 25 after a wake. The staff could not have been more accommodating and the food was excellent. I cannot recommend this pub highly enough.

Didn’t get any food tried adding on 2 chairs to join a family but was told there’s not enough food so rang up 10 mins later and was able to book a table of 2 at the same time strange

Great atmosphere superb value for money food and the best bit, the staff. We were asked 4 times if our food was ok, did we want more drinks or was everything o.k. Amazing people hope the Land Lord and Lady read this and look after the girls that were serving p.m. on 29th Sept.

We had a large family get together for a Sunday lunch and the staff at the Rose and Crown were brilliant at accommodating all of 16 of us at one table. Our food arrived at the same time, was hot, delicious and every order was perfect. The staff were so friendly - even though it was busy, we didn't have to wait for drinks and the table was cleared and then pudding arrived in good time. Everyone enjoyed the various options - the vegetarians were especially happy with their Sunday Roasts! Thank you to everyone there

Have been here several times for Sunday lunch and mid-week dinner and lunches. Great staff

The waitress was charming and the Camembert starter a good start, but from then it went downhill. I had the buttermilk chicken burger which was moist and crispy but burnt. A bit of limp lettuce and soggy tomato with no sign of the promised chilli jam. The chips were dry and greasy - tasted like refried leftovers, and the coleslaw was just onion and mayonnaise. Everything was under seasoned and bland. Not worth the money - shame

We thought we would try the new menu that was recently advertised for a family Birthday. They still have the favourite pub classics but have added lots of new extras. The Pork loin in cider gravy was superb and the chocolate, pistachio & raspberry tart delicious. Family of 5 all had different mains and puddings, all of us enjoyed. The staff as always are very attentive and friendly. Service with a smile goes a long way. So nice to have a pub in the local area that serves decent food at a reasonable price. Added bonus theres an alpaca enclosure and the kids really enjoyed feeding them. Would deffinatly be returning.

Went for a cider tasting evening, great service from the staff, and the ploughmans was excellent. Along with the cider tasting from Westons Cider.

My husband and I attended the pubs Westons cider evening with friends recently. We had a brilliant time, it started with 3 half's of Westons cider that are served at the pub. We had a nibbles board to go along with it. Sausage roll made...

Have visited a couple of times for a Sunday roast. Lovely food at a good price. Lots of gluten free options. Staff very welcoming and friendly.

Great food and service yet again ,in a lovely setting Thank you

Really surprised to read such good comments. Went BH lunch time and had a terrible meal. Bacon and Brie sandwich on sourdough bread that was just cheap sliced white. The bacon was hardly cooked meaning the fat was very tough to eat and only 1 small piece of Brie in the whole sandwich. My guest had a sausage sandwich with barely cooked sausages, grey skins that couldn’t be bitten and instead had to be peeled off. All sat on a bed of old wilted lettuce leaves. Service was slow and no one came to check on us so ended up walking out before feedback could be given.

Nice pub, haven't had a meal there for a while. Shame it has changed hands so often, was great when Adam ran it.

We didn't eat in but had a drink only, so we can't comment on food. The range of beers is good. the service is pretty good too, but I had a sense that the staff were a little stressed. That's probably my misapprehension and bears no reflection on speed of service or attentiveness.

We had a great meal last night for my sons birthday. It was grill night so we had 2 steaks an 2 crown burgers which were huge an such good value. Crown burgers officially declared best burgers by the burger expert!

We arrived and it was 'Pucklefest' weekend and what a weekend it was!!! Live music for all the family and a great time had by all 👍👍. Highly recommended .

To start with the wine glasses had to change they we dirty why didn't the waitresses check them as the pub wasn't full. The food was cold and say no more will not return again.
