The old building, the attached local pub, the cleanliness of the rooms, and the view of nature from the rooms are all great. I think it would be a good idea to specify the second floor.

We stayed at the guest house for a night. Were initially in awe of the beautiful old building and character. The bar staff were lovely. Sadly, the state of thr room was below standard, particularly for the cost og £93. The staff preparing breakfast talked so loudly in the corridor from 6am not giving a thought for sleeping guests. The bathroom was awful. The room needed a deep clean.

Have stayed on numerous occasions over the last 10 years and had great visits. After a break of a few years we booked in. Staff very nice and friendly. Lovely location, close to shops bus routes. Unfortunately the premises and room are looking very tired. Sink in the bathroom was leaking all over the floor. Furniture tired, chipped and worn. Although the website said bed and breakfast included it was only continental breakfast. We were told it was an extra £7 odd for full English... very misleading as it used to be included. Shame......

We stayed for one night after a funeral and booked into an executive room. It was right at the top up 2 flights of stairs. The size of the room was a pleasant surprise. The room itself was clean and functional although the mattress was was too firm for us. Unfortunately there were no toiletries available which was disappointing for the price we paid. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We would stay again but maybe in a different room.

The place isn't clean, the food is average and well over priced. They're clearly after your money. It happened that we couldn't stay for the whole duration of the booking as we suffered flight cancellations, they refused to do anything and debited the full amount from our account anyway. If it was a nice place I wouldn't complain but on top of that its filthy.

Do NOT waste your time coming here. I recently visited on Sunday for the Carvery. After serving up my food I was greeted with a long white hair that was embedded in the Cauliflower cheese, after complaining I was given another plate and dished up a new meal and was then greeted by another hair. After I explained that the hair was inside the cauli cheese no one thought to take this off the carvery and dispose of it. It was brushed off and I was made to feel stupid for complaining. Honestly don’t waste your time coming here, the food is grim and the service is shocking.

We booked into this pub/b&b as we were attending a funeral nearby. Will behind the bar booked us in and showed us to our room, the b&b building is at the back of the pub. The accommodation is very old but quite charming. I popped to the bar to order some food but was told that as it was so hot (2 hottest days in history) the kitchen was closed so made do with a sandwich from a nearby supermarket. The drinks in the bar were well priced and Will behind the bar was very attentive and chatty as was the co-owner who allowed us to stay in the room later and agreed some family members could use our room to get ready as well. The £5 extra for full English breakfast was great value. On arriving home I noticed that I had left some items of clothing behind, I contacted the pub and spoke to Sarah who agreed to return the items by mail and when I offered to pay Sarah’s response was “it’s ok the boss has paid”. I would return if in the area again.

The staff are pleasant but really that’s the only positive comment we could make. The B and B could be beautiful but it’s not- one is greeted by overgrown grass and weeds at the front, ancient ( I don’t mean quality) furniture, the bed had a wooden leg to hold the middle of the mattress up guaranteeing a poor night’s sleep, bathroom, windows, all filthy, bed like a board. The bathroom was covered in limescale and black mould and I didn’t want to inspect the grot at the bottom of the shower screens too closely. The meal in the pub was disgusting heated up remains- my husband sent it back. Stairs next to our table covered in thick dust apart from the footprints of someone who’d gone up them. Breakfast was very limited- described as “ continental “ however it consisted of toast, heavy unpleasant croissants, butter, yoghurt and orange juice so in no way continental. The glasses were stuck to the surface which didn’t bode well either. My husband opted to pay £5 for a cooked breakfast- it was cooked freshly by a very pleasant lady but again very limited with cheap products. One of the most awful places I’ve stayed.

I've lived in Downend for 4 years and for whatever reason, I've never given the Langley a go for a pint. Went there last night with my girlfriend, and I thought it was excellent. We are currently having our kitchen renovated so to be able to eat home cooked food was such a massive comfort. Steak and kidney pie was freshly made on the day, and it was delicious. To see faggots on the menu was a must try for me as you never see it anymore! and it didn't disappoint one bit. Hefty portions so bring your appetite. After suffering for years with drinking in the huntsman, this was the most welcome pub I've drank in in Downend. Proper pub, proper food, really friendly staff. Couldn't ask for anymore.

We visited today after a gap of almost 19 months; during which time it had only opened-up well after most lockdowns had ended. On one occasion the pub opened two weeks before a further lockdown was enforced. After the May lockdown, the pub opened its doors, welcoming patrons for drinking and dining. The Langley is our ‘local’, but had become less attractive, because it was in dire need of refurbishments. Our own busy schedule of several staycations in the four months ending September, provided few opportunities to visit the Langley, until today. We were very pleasantly surprised by impressive décor improvements inside the pub. The lower ground floor area at the extreme left-hand side of the pub has been transformed by the creation of a new small room: from what was possibly a stock-room. The adjacent back lounge has also been made into a smart and comfortable lounge. I understand that the upstairs area has also been renovated with new carpeting, and has been redecorated; but was closed when we visited. The main bar has been refurbished with the wooden floor before the bar being skimmed and revarnished. Our party had a meeting in the newly formed room; a reasonable compromise for us as compared to the upstairs room in which we have regularly met for many years. The new downstairs room, however, would not be ideal when we have guest speakers; as this room is open to the rest of the pub, and would not be as private as we would need. Our meal was very good indeed; being chicken breast in a light sauce with vegetables and boiled potatoes. This was followed by a dessert of three scoops of mixed ice cream. The Langley is our local ‘walk-to’ pub, but does not offer budget-priced white or rosé wine other than very basic Chilean fare. I agree that, at under £4 for a 175ml glass, it was the cheapest we have seen, but we would pay £5-£8 by the 175ml glass, for more complex and zesty French or South African wines. The young lady who served us was excellent, she was helpful, pleasant and spoke-up, so we could hear her clearly above the hub-bub of background chatter. We are keen to start using this pub more, but give us a better wine to enjoy please.

Unexpected old building at the edge of a fairly new housing estate. Good access to nearby green areas, and not far from the ring road A4174. Check in was done at the end of the bar, and the rooms had to be paid for in advance. Room was good, and quiet, but I was dissapointed by lack of shower products (shampoo etc). Ours was a strange visit. We had pre-booked and were shown where our table was rather than be shown to it. Not before we had paid though! It was only then we realised the food (it was a carvery) was served upstairs. Whilst we were sat upstairs. Being a busy Sunday lunch the stairs, which were only narrow, were very busy. And being disabled, it was not safe for me to negotiate stairs and other customers whilst carring a hot plate of food. In fact it would not be a good experience for anyone carrying a plate of hot food down a busy staircase. Non of this was explained when we booked by telephone. Anyway, we changed tables for one upstairs. It was very dark. There were no windows, just skylights I seem to remember. The food was very nearly very good indeed. What let it down was the sage and onion stuffing. It was served as a powder? It was as if it had just been poured out of the packet. It had never seen water of any kind! I have never witnessed anything like it. How do you eat powdered stuffing? Thinking it was something other than stuffing I asked a member of staff what it was. She replied "stuffing" in a voice which suggested she thought I was some kind of heathen. Plenty of young waitresses hanging about. Non of which seemed to do anything. Wont be going back despite the quality of most of the food.

We started our day at 4:30am so by the time we arrived at the B and B at about 8pm all we wanted to do was chill out in front of telly for a bit and have and early night. The B and B is behind the Langley Arms pub so at around 10ish live music started in the pub, they might as well have been playing in our room it was so loud. We were in room 8 which is right at the top of the building on the opposite side of the pub so I can't imagine how loud it would have been in the other rooms! Due to how loud the music was we were then unable to open the windows so the room was incredibly hot, and to top it off there was a few people having and argument and shouting at each other at some point as well. The only thing that was nice was the Building and the look of the room, but this doesn't really count for a lot when you can't sleep! Overall really disappointed and would never stay there again.

The lady wasn't at all welcoming. Room was ok, no toiletries supply and for 2 people sharing a room they were a 1small/1medium/1 large towel all very tired. It is quiet for sure. The breakfast wasn't very good. Few cereales, not even a pot a fresh coffee. No yogurt, no fresh fruits.... Over all nothing much to say.

Very strange place, amazing historic building surrounded by a housing estate! The rooms are average, although clean there were toenail clippings on the carpet. The floors creaked quite a lot due to the age of the building so certainly had character. Unfortunately, stay was marred by a very loud gentleman in the next room talking until after 11 pm. Not sure I'd stay again, but the people were very welcoming.

Really enjoyed a traditional Sunday Lunch. Amazing roast potatoes and parsnips. Choice of three meats. Lots of extras. Mushy peas, onions, all condiments you could want. Highly recommended. Very busy so book

Very good lunch all home cooked. Odd layout. I would say your best to book. Friendly staff. Excellent for families.

We had booked a table which we were pleased as it was very busy. We sat upstairs as we had to collect our meal from the carvery which was situated there. There was a choice of three meats which were all very tender, which was lovely as in some restaurants the beef is tough. There was plenty of vegetables ,roast and boiled potatoes, which were cooked well and was hot. My only criticism is that the carpet upstairs needs replacing

Managed to catch a late Sunday lunch here, they stop serving when its quiet and that was about 3.30pm.The roast is 6.95 on weekdays and now 9.95 on Sundays. Its worth it; the choice of three meats are accompanied by up to 8 sides including new and roast potatoes, honey parsnips, mushy peas and petit pois peas, cabbage, cheesy cauli and Yorkshires. Only negative was that the stuffing wasn't brilliant but the rest was delicious. If you book, you may get seated in the dining areas but even if you don't there is enough space usually. Real ales at the well stocked bar finish off a very relaxed Sunday.

This is a guest house situated next to the pub / restaurant. It is a very attractive building with plenty of on-site parking. The room was spacious, in good order, fairly modern, free Wi-Fi.A short walk between the pub and the rooms. No lift.Drink and food in pub was pretty good and reasonable price.Breakfast was bit limited, cooked to order but not much fresh fruit. Quality was fine. Staff and service was good.Would stay again.

As our annual Christmas family 'get together' meal was approaching we booked the Langley arms for 10 adults and 1 child for a Sunday carvery. On arrival today it seemed reasonably quiet and we were told our tables were upstairs. We went up to find two tables of 6 next to each other. We settled ourselves in and after a catch up went to get our meals. Having got our meals from a hot station situated at the back of the room it was apparent that while the food was in fact quite good the set up was bad and the table holding the gravy and sauces was woefully inadequate as none of the bowls had any labelling so you didn't know if it was bread sauce or horseradish (thankfully our daughter, who thought it might be bread sauce, did not have any as it could have ruined her meal) after sitting down we quickly realised our tables were right in the path of a very busy queue of people wanting their meals. I was knocked on the shoulder several times and almost ended up wearing one ladies meal who stumbled near me. The child in our party who had been sat in a high chair at the end of the table ended up sitting on Mum's lap as she was bumped into repeatedly by people carrying hot food which meant her mum could not really eat her meal very easily. After we had eaten I did ask at the bar to speak to the manager who came over and said 'if it's a problem I can't help'. He obviously thought this was a joke but certainly didn't make me feel that he was particularly interested. He did listen to my complaint and said he would look at perhaps not having tables of 6 in the queueing area but apart from that he wasn't very helpful. I really feel that with a little updating of the decor and a more customer based attitude this pub could be a really lovely place that would make you want to return. Right now, although the food is quite good it is not somewhere you would go unless you just wanted a reasonable meal and were prepared to take pot luck with the badly laid out tables and the, quite frankly, poor service.

2 friends of mine from Weymouth came to visit and I recommended the langley due to hearing good things. Well it left me embarrassed and apologising to my friends. They had booked 5 weeks in advance. However on arrival they were told there were no rooms left and they would be staying in a motor home which was situated to the back of the smoking area of the pub!!! I was furious! They had to pay 100 pound for a family size motor home when it was just them two. They then were not able to have a full English breakfast in the morning they had continental. You'd think that seeing as they were ripped off with their room they would of been given a decent breakfast to make up for it, but no. I will never recommend this place to any friends or family again!

Came across The Langley Arms by accident on the internet. Wanted somewhere near Bath and Bristol and the location was perfect. We had a lovely spacious room with all amenities and easy parking. Went to Bath and then we had an evening meal on our return. Had Braised Steak and it was delicious as well as the Apple Pie that followed with a lovely glass of Rose.We found the room comfortable (maybe an extra pillow would have been nice). The breakfast next day was lovely too (we upgraded to a cooked breakfast for £5 ) I cannot fault the staff as they were all very helpful and attentive and the restaurant has entertainment on some evenings too. Will definitely stay here again.

We'd heard The Langley Arms served a good Sunday Carvery and we were not disappointed. The meats we succulent, the roasters & parsnips were crunchy on the outside & soft in the middle, the veg were all cooked beautifully & the cauliflower cheese was delicious. Plates were a little on the small side but that's my only criticism. We will definitely be making a return visit

A group of friends visited the Langley Arms. We managed to get back room just for us. The bar staff were nice. Waitress was lovely (Young girl blonde hair) a credit to the company. But the food let the night down. Was not good. Beef was burnt and like leather. Other meals was burnt too. 2 of the meals was refunded. we enjoyed the evening dispite of the food, we won't be eating here again but will return just for drinks next time.

We were staying in the guest house next door so ate here. There was a quiz which was good fun. Staff were friendly. Good was lovely but pricey. Unless everything is that price round here.

Dinner on a Wednesday evening - a really nice chicken curry and the best Cottage Pie that I've had for years. The Pier 42 Shiraz complemented it wonderfully - a very nice early evening meal. Highly recommended.

So once again I find myself somewhere I wouldn't normally be due to work, however I am once again pleasantly surprised.A hidden gem nestled on the outskirts of Bristol will have you coming back time and time again. Great value for money, quaint, ample portions to satisfy the biggest appetite and a delectable variety menu. The staff are incredibly friendly, with a special mention and thanks to Georgia for making me feel very welcome, showed me to my cosy room and cannot be faulted for her level of service.Great location for a couples retreat just outside the city centre, and some of the best 'pub grub' I've sampled in a long time! So thank you to all the staff at The Langley Arms for making an otherwise typical business trip that extra something special you have my recommendation everytime. I look forward to coming back again and you should too.

A pub/Chinese restaurant with lots more, food is top notch and beer garden is amazing, had our wedding reception in the function room and it couldn't have been done better, eight stars from me.

We often have a mini family reunion at this Harvester, it being central to us all. However, after our latest disappointing visit we wont be coming here again. When we asked for a drinks menu we were told none was available because the prices are currently being 'updated'. We noticed that the main menu now has large price increases on it. A Veggie burger being £17.99p now! The menu items had also shrunk - there were only 2 steaks available and both were overpriced - we ordered the 12oz Ribeye at £23.99p each. One of the salad bowls we were brought was dirty so we had to ask for it to be changed. At the salad bar, there were only 3 dips available - we were told they were out of stock of all others. When the meals came there were things missing from them! We had not been advised of this in advance or offered any substitution. The steaks came without the grilled tomatoes and the burger came without the hash brown. When queried we were told that they were out of them - but no adjustment was made to the price to allow for this or any remedy offered other than being told that there were tomatoes we could get from the salad bar! Overall we feel the whole place has gone downhill badly with staff not offering proper service or customer care. However, one waiter - Umi - did his best to ensure that we were served promptly and with care and courtesy, despite him not being our main waiter. We had summoned his help as our own waitress was nowhere to be seen when we wanted more drinks. He later served us with our desserts too - again our own waitress not being around when needed. He is a credit to you, Harvester and you are very lucky to have him. Sadly, your increased price and poor attitude re missing items, and lowered standards mean that we will not be visiting you again.
