We were a group of 12 that had booked a table. We were shown to the table but were told that we couldn't have pizza because the pizza oven was broken. I ordered my drink at the bar and ordered the carvery (you pay extra for 3 pigs in blankets). Staff were friendly and polite. The roast meats looked OK, I had gammon and turkey. The veg was adequate, the peas were starting to brown under the heat lamps. There was plenty of veg choices. The gravy was not next to the veg at the end of the food run but on a completely different counter which was a bit confusing. Overall the food was OK, it was a good price.

I was taking a vistor around some of my favourite local Sussex sites and we found ourselves in Alfriston during lunch time. It was a sunny spring day so we ordered our sandwich & drink at the bar then went to the outdoor garden, admiring the decore and charming old features as we passed through the pub. Our lunch was delieved quickly: we had ordered the avacado, roasd red pepper and houmous sandwich. It was very very tasty and I was pleased that it was a good old fashioned Sandwich - no brioche that falls to pieces, no sourdough that you have to tear with your teeth but two slices of good quality seed bread and delicious but not over-stuffed filling with a decent amount of salads and tortilla chips to the side. This was excatly what we were both after. Knowing how lovely the sandwich lunch was and how nice the decore of the place, I plan to return and try some of the hot meals in this lovely setting.

This is now Cecils but I couldn't find reviews under this name. We had a nice lunch. I had a small quiche with side salad and hubbie had a coronation chicken baguette and an order of chips to share. With a pot of tea, it was very reasonably priced. It was busy though and we were there before midday and most tables were taken. It will be easier in the summer when you can eat outside. Lovely garden centre with exceptional plants, well worth a visit but note it's closed on Sundays.

We visited Alfriston specifically to go to Badgers. Supposed to be open on Wednesdays but not open. Furthermore the sign seen in a photo on their website saying ‘Badgers tea house and garden’ now says only ‘Badgers’. Has it closed down? Is it seasonal? Wasted our time anyway. Had been looking forward to a cream tea for ages!

Lovely historic ambience and architecture. Stayed in the suite for one night as had to attend a wedding. Food was lovely and service was great. Great customer service. Very pleasant and helpful. The Suite. Bathroom was beautiful although l just used the shower due to finding hair in the bath. I feel the interior decoration in the suite could be warmer, with more colour. The glass furniture in the room is rather tacky including the silver lamps too. A shame for such a lovely space and the amount paid for the night. The room of itself is a lovely size, nice windows and view. Thank you.
