This pub has been bought by the villagers. It’s is wonderful in so many ways. Cowbridge seems to be a black hole of decent food aside from the hare and hounds and maple and bean. This felt like a proper community pub in the 90s. The staff were all amazing. The food was amazing. There wasn’t a 400% markup on rubbish wine. The service as great. The atmosphere was lovely. Great starters of crab and squid were followed by perfectly cooked steak. The doughnuts with custard cream and strawberries were lovely. No rip off frozen food or “small plates” that nobody likes here. Go and support places like this. The rest of cowbridge eateries need to up their game.

I reserved some cakes , as we were going for a walk and were calling back later for coffee and cake for a birthday treat ! The staff are so accommodating here , especially the male today 7/7/23 as we were late back , when they closed at 4pm, after getting a bit lost enroute in the countryside. The staff member allowed us to have 2 coffees and the reserved cakes, after closing time, the coffees were excellent and the cakes too. We had the largest cinammon bun I have ever seen and the most scrumptious chocolate brownie ever, crunchie on the outside and sappy in the middle. Such excellent service deserves a big thank you ! Thoroughly recommended !!!

This is our favourite cafe in the Vale of Glamorgan - I meet friends here, bring visitors and enjoy time with family. The cakes and desserts are to die for, and the lasagne is the best in South Wales. Lovely staff, good service and great atmosphere with an outside courtyard for hot days in the summer.

We were staying locally with friends and they recommended this pub for its atmosphere, service and food. The four of us went and I have to say I was not disappointed. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and shown to our table, they were very busy, but orders for drinks were prompt. Its a good menu and orders and food delivery were also delivered in a timely fashion. The only downside I can think of was that we could not add any tip to the final bill when paying by card. It was cash only. A huge oversight on the part of the management as between us we had no cash. A great shame as we could not reward the good service we had received

Looking for a poorly cooked breakfast that is terrible value for money? Well look no further as this is the place to visit! Made with authentic value/essential/saver supermarket produce, the hash browns are lovingly made to be soggy and wet, accompanied with a generous tablespoon of succulent cold baked beans, skinny warm bread masquerading as toast and a rasher of the finest cheap bacon known to humanity (50% rind guaranteed!) complete the culinary annihilation. But that's not all.. PLUS, ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE.. lashings of egg shell, strategically placed within the breakfast, (subject to availability but do suspect this is indefinitely). Staff too busy on phones and chatting to one another to be concerned about any concerns, unless the concerns are what to wear or who to date on Saturday night, then the attention to detail is second to none. But seriously, a very, very poor experience and would definitely NOT recommend to anyone!!

I keep giving this place a second chance, but the disappointment continues. Nothing wrong with the food, in fact its usually very good, but service is poor. The 'kids' serving try their best, are polite and courteous enough, but the current crew do seem out of their depth. My main issue is the time it takes from placing your order to actually receiving your meal. On my last visit there were three serving front of house and two behind the fryer, who appeared to be having a jolly old time. It took 20 minutes to get my of double pie and chips and I just wonder exactly how difficult can that be? There were only 3 other cusomers in the shop, we weren't waiting for a fresh batch of chips. My order was taken reasonably quickly, as was payment, so I suppose once you've paid, you either have to patiently wait and set frustration aside, or ask for your money back. On another note I can't recall another chippy where you pay before your food is actually prepared. Perhaps people have ordered in the past, got fed up and left without their food. Maybe that's where up front payment comes from? I thought chip shops were classed as fast food outlets, well not in Cowbridge. So come on Cowbridge Fish Bar, just how long can it take 5 people (with only 3 customers in the shop), to serve up two portions of pie and chips? Whilst waiting, another customer ordered a tray of chips and gravy about 10 minutes before I left. Not sure exactly how long that transaction took to complete, but he was still there when I eventually left. The 'system' seems to be set up strictly to benefit the owner and to the detriment of customers. Or is it just that priority is given to online orders? If that's the case perhaps customers could refer to a numerical queuing system just like phoning your docter. By the way online orders were picked during my 20 minute stint. Its such a shame because the quality of food has a lot going for it. I'll try againg soon and report any changes or otherwise! Spud Basher.
