We were staying locally with friends and they recommended this pub for its atmosphere, service and food. The four of us went and I have to say I was not disappointed. We were greeted by a friendly waitress and shown to our table, they were very busy, but orders for drinks were prompt. Its a good menu and orders and food delivery were also delivered in a timely fashion. The only downside I can think of was that we could not add any tip to the final bill when paying by card. It was cash only. A huge oversight on the part of the management as between us we had no cash. A great shame as we could not reward the good service we had received

A beautiful thatched country pub. Lovely cosy atmosphere. We ordered a focaccia with hummus and cherry tomatoes for £10. When it arrived it was 3 small pieces of ciabatta with hot hummus and 3 halves of cherry tomatoes on the top garnished with rocket. We were very disappointed but decided to wait and see what the main was like. Our battered fish, triple cooked chips and peas were satisfactory. However the young waiter that served us couldn't do enough for us. Overall a bit disappointing which was a shame as last year's experience was quite different.

Beautiful thatched pub in a stunning position opposite the village church. Service first class, attentive but not intrusive. Lovely pint of Wye Valley on cask. Mum and I shared their rabbit pie with fresh mash and vegetables. Delicious and plenty of food for the two of us as her appetite is not what it used to be. 100% recommended

We had the most lovely time at the Bush Inn. The staff were welcoming and so friendly. The food was really delicious and the atmosphere in the pub was perfect for the last meal of our holiday. The staff were so genuinely lovely and chatted to us about our holiday and also welcomed our pooch with open arms. Would love to go back if we are in the area again. Had a wonderful evening!

Very cosy, charming country pub. We went for lunch NY day and so it was understandably very busy. The service was lovey, but the food did take over an hour to come out. The chicken pie was delicious but not a sign of the gammon or leek as described, - that said, it was very good. The place is dog friendly on specific tables and it had a good vibe. I fully undertand the wait as it was packed. We will be back. Thank you

Beautiful rustic thatched pub with lovely atmosphere and great food. This was my first visit and I was pleasantly surprised after my daughter booked a table last minute. Menu was extensive but we all had great meals, from vegan dishes to my lamb 3 ways, which I have say exceeded all expectations. Beer range not massive but ok. I would imagine in the summer it would be equally beautiful with good outside area and quaint hamlet. Definitely worth the visit

A really quaint country pub in the Vale of Glamorgan. Service was friendly although I did feel they wanted us to leave the restaurant at about 21.00 as they were cleaning tables around us. Notwithstanding that, the food was generally good, although the focaccia bread we had as a starter was tasteless and greasy. Of the main courses, the two pies - chicken and steak - were very nice, the steak we had was slightly underdone and closer to rare than medium rare. The taste of the pizza we had was slightly overwhelmed by tomato flavouring. The two desserts - eton mess and apple and fruit crumble with custard were very nice. Overall a very enjoyable experience but with some shortcomings.

Avoid ... We pre booked well in advance for a special birthday lunch. My Mum is elderly and quite frail. When we arrived the restaurant was empty. We were seated right next to the main doorway where there was a real breeze, uncomfortable chairs and it was cold and drafty. I was particularly concerned for my Mum. We politely asked if they could re-seat us and received a brisk reply "Sorry NO" There were numerous empty and more comfortable and suitable tables around us (in fact we wete the only ones there) and there was absolutely no thought or consideration for my Mum. We waited 50 minutes for our food. The waiters were constantly gossiping at the bar and paid no attention. They served the food and couldn't even confirm if my mother's meat was beef when she asked as it looked very pale! . After our main course we waited a long time before service again. We then ordered ice cream and a pot of tea. We waited again a very long time for icecream and they were not busy. They forgot the tea all together and then unbelievably brought a cup with a tea bag floating in it- at the same time as the bill! The owner paid no interest to our complaints and seemed to be more interested in chatting to locals at the bar. We were so disappointed as we had pre-booked and it was a special occasion. Never going back.

A beautiful little pub, inside and out. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. I intended to try out a few bits on their menu as it looked very nice, albeit a little on the pricier side. I ordered the chorizo starter as well as the focaccia with balsamic and oil. For my main I ordered the beef burger. I had two pints, one Guinness, and a cider, both of which were reasonably priced. My overall opinion of the food was that it is very average- it was okay. For the price of some of the dishes, I expected a lot more. The chorizo starter was incredibly overpriced for what was received- it ended up being more of a cheesy paste with a hint of chorizo. To spend almost £10 on two balls of essentially a chorizo flavoured ball was very disappointing and worrying when the aioli sauce is the best part. The focaccia was nice, the balsamic and oil tasty and reasonably priced for what you received. The burger, again, was very average. The quality of the meat was poor, and the sauces included on the burger were likely to cover the lack of flavour of the meat. The patties were not tasty and, again, it’s worthing when the sauce is tastier than the main item. The onion rings and veg included were delish, the triple cooked chips were very bland. With such thick chips, the salt I applied to the outside couldn’t compensate for the unseasoned potatoes. In total, I spent £40 on food and drinks, and left a little disappointed. A very average experience- I had high hopes looking at their menu but it seems to be another pub which has a fancy menu, high prices, and food which doesn’t match up. If you’re going to charge £10 for two fried balls of chorizo flavoured cheese, you have to deliver. If these were £5-6, I wouldn’t have minded as much, but premium prices come with high expectations. I will definitely come back in the winter to sit by the glorious fire place and stay for just a pint this time around.

Absolutely poorest meal in a long time. Been here previously and was good. This Sunday Father’s Day was appalling. Chef - you killed the beef. The whole table didn’t finish the meals. The waitress asked if anything was wrong and reported it back. Was offered fresh beef but the meals were finished apart from the meat. So difficult to cut, tough as leather to eat and loads of fat. Table close to us also complaining their meal was poor. Sorry, but we won’t be back for Sunday lunches / special occasions. It did spoil the celebration. The good bit. Location is good. Visited the picturesque village of St. Hilary's for the first time today. Beautiful. A friend of ours, who lives locally, had mentioned that the Bush was a great place to visit for food. As we were in the neighborhood today we decided to book a table online for two for lunch. Excellent, friendly service and our order was taken promptly. Plenty of choice on the menu and I could have chosen quite a few of the dishes. Food arrived in about 20 minutes and looked so appetising. Indeed it was delicious especially the triple cooked chips. I had the battered cod and chips and my husband ordered the beefburger. Plenty of food on the plates. No room for a dessert today so I cannot comment on the quality or value for money for the sweets.I thought that the desserts were a tad expensive compared to the price of the main meals. We will definitely return to the Bush when visiting the area in the future. Our bill for two meals and drinks came to £35.Diolch.

I was there last night with a party of six to celebrate a birthday. The food was great - two burgers , two pizzas and the lamb roast . All cooked well and tasty. However , when it came to pudding , I was given dairy ice cream despite ordering non-dairy. This was compounded by the fact it was me that noticed the error - had I not tasted the difference , it would have gone unnoticed . This is worrying . There have been many stories recently of people dying due to reactions to foods they are allergic to but are fed by inattentive or ignorant staff. It makes me question the validity of the other dairy free food I have ordered earlier in the meal - and this is also a concern for anyone thinking of going - can they be trusted to serve you what you order? On this occasion , no.They were good when informed and comped the puddings - however, they dodged a bullet as if it had been an allergy, they would currently be facing civil action

We visited last night as restaurant was recommended to us. Beautiful building with parking to the front and rear. Was quite busy so struggled to park. Initial experience-On entering the bar, staff were pleasant and we were seen to our table situated in the garden. Dog friendly garden with tables nicely spaced. Our table was under a canopy and had a heater, something which the missus was happy with (she's a freezer!). Our drinks order was taken promptly and we browsed the menu. The drinks took a while to come but an apology accompanied them. We ordered our starter. I opted for the fried hake and my partner, the prawn flatbread. After around 30 minutes, we were looking for a staff member to ask if we'd been forgotten about. Another table table had arrived and ordered after us had recieved their food. There were clearly not enough staff working. I caught the attention of a server and I asked about our food. After 5 minutes she returned with our started, apologised and gave a free round of drinks. Food-The food was well presented and looked appetising. I tucked in to my deep fried hake in anticipation for the meaty white goodness within. The batter was crispy but unseasoned. The hake was slightly over cooked and a little dry. The yuzu mayo was lacking in.....well yuzu and the few capers failed to add the saltiness I was looking for. Overall a bland dish. My partner had the prawn flatbread. She offered me some to try. I took a bite and was met with a lovely lime pickle but then an incredibly doughy bread. On closer inspection, the flat bread was not cooked. No where near. The crust was charred and crispy, the centre was soggy and had the consistency of cheese. We informed the server who took it off the bill. Main course was a chicken, ham, and leek pie and steak, blue cheese and Guiness pie. The triple cooked chips were lovely but lacked seasoning. The carrot and broccoli stems which accompanied were nicely cooked and these were seasoned and buttered. The pie crust was beautifully cooked and crispy. The beef in the pie was like butter and falling apart. The sauce could have done with a touch more Guinness for the bitterness and (a lot) more blue cheese. After I unfortunately ate the bit at the top, the cheese was gone and I was left searching for flavour again. Again, I sampled the other half's main. With the same crispy crust she was happy. The chicken was nicely cooked with huge pieces of diced ham. But again an unseasoned sauce let the dish down. We didn't risk desert and left after paying the bill. We felt a little forgotten about at the back of the garden. Although very pleasant, the staff seemed a little overwhelmed by the sheer spread of tables. To boot there are individual dining pods which I'm sure take primacy as these incur an extra fee. Overall not a bad experience, just a disappointing one. There is so much potential here. And with a bit more attention to detail, more attentiveness to diners and more (a lot more) seasoning this could be a real standout place.

I understand that the hospitality business have suffered over the last 15 months but so have we! We've been furloughed (luckily) and therefore salary reduced over that period. The prices weren't too bad but the quantity was questionable for those prices. Starters were from £8 and the prawn flatbread was 2 prawns and very doughy flatbread! The main course of lambs breast although tasty was £19 with a miserable slice of Dauphinoise potato, 2 carrots and 3 stems of broccoli. On top of that a Diet fizzy drink was £3.80! This was lunch so I hate to think what their evening meals would cost.

Impressed by the measures esp the spacing of tables. Less impressed there was not a one in one out policy on the toilets though as expected with the rest of the venue precautions and instead the toilets were crowded. Food was great! We all had pies. Dessert a bit disappointing with the vanilla ice cream half melted and tasteless. But the toffee one is delicious! Will return!

What a wonderful Sunday lunch we had today. Our first family meal out in over a year and what an excellent choice. We were warmly greeted and taken to our cabin. It was personal, bespoke and perfect in every way. We immediately felt at home. The staff were discreet and attentive to our needs. Our girls opted for pizzas, of course they did, that’s better than Sunday lunch mum! I had Roast beef and my husband had Roast belly pork, followed by ice cream, crumble and an exquisite Irish coffee. San Miguel and a few delightful glasses of Malbec, we left full, contented and with a desire to return very soon. The cabins are beautifully decorated, extremely welcoming and luxurious. A must in our book!

I recently had my wedding reception at The Bush Inn after being let down last minute by another venue. The Bush staff agreed to host us for an outdoor reception in the eleventh hour and they could not have been more accommodating. From the first phone call with Liz, to the countless emails with Chelsea and final details meeting with Andy, every moment was faultless. We had the most amazing day at The Bush and all of our guest commented on how attentive all the staff were, how INCREDIBLE the food was (especially the famous Bush Inn pies) and how wonderful the outdoor space looked. I wish we could relive the day all over again, it was truly perfect!!My new husband and I can’t wait to return!! If you’re thinking of visiting this pub, DO IT!

I cannot understand people complaining about the measures in place at the bush. The bush is the only place we have eaten out at since march and that's because of how safe we felt there. The food is excellent and the service good. Pizzas were fantastic. We were really impressed by everything the pub were doing in terms of safety and food - dont let the negative reviews put you off.

Have just enjoyed a fabulous Sunday roast beef dinner - collected for “home consumption”. So much beef with roast potatoes fresh veg fit for a king and lovely gravy. Will be placing another order very soon. I was also most impressed with the steps being taken to protect patrons and staff. Sanitising “station” at entrance especially well located. Diolch/Thanks.

We visited on the last night The Bush were open before they had to shut for the Welsh ‘firebreak’. We had a great evening. All four of us ordered different starters and mains and we all really enjoyed everything. Service was excellent and staff very polite and attentive without hovering over us. We were sad to hear people on the table next to us complaining loadly about the lack of draft beer available (there was plenty of bottled beet to choose from!). They clearly had no concept that the pub had to shut that evening for 2 weeks! Also sad to see people complaining on here about the Covid arrangements. As I see it, they are doing their best to ensure people feel safe when visiting (don’t forget there are lots of different views on this) and that they comply with WAG guidelines (£10,000 fine if they don’t!). We will be back to visit just as soon as they open again - can’t wait.

We had a take away from The Bush a few weeks ago, only now getting around to writing review- appologies for the delay, but felt a review was still needed. The food was WONDERFUL, excellent portion sizes, very well presented and tasted amazing. We had main and dessert and would thoroughly recommend! We look forward to ordering again soon, many thanks, keep up the fantastic work xxxx

We have been to the Bush Inn many times and have always enjoyed the atmosphere and welcome, as well as the varied menu. Sadly, on this occasion we were very disappointed. The pub was underheated (no fire lit in main room) and the service level was disappointing given the small number of patrons in the pub . The menu was very limited for a non-carnivore.Whilst accepting that all establishments now have to pay attention to Covid-19 regulations, we felt that the response at the Bush was disproportionate compared to most competing establishments - yellow tape on the floor reminiscent of factory health and safety walkways, large and bossy signage, over-complicated and condescending set of Covid-19 rules on the table, plastic chairs in the restaurant. A more measured approach might be preferable if the Bush is going to retain its clientele through and after the pandemic. We will go back sometime, we hope - but not anytime soon.

- broken table- filthy carpet- 1 paper menu for 4 people- patronising (2 sided) list of rules- ridiculous pricing £7+ bruschetta/ garlic bread- dirty toilets - sub-standard Sunday lunchWhat is the point in the waitresses tying their hair back if the chef doesn’t? More concerning is leaving fresh un-refrigerated produce out in the sun...If we hadn’t skipped breakfast and if it was just my wife and I, we would not have stayed.Anywhere else would have been better

Really good quality and value. Food and service were excellent and there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant as it was fairly busy despite being early evening. We really appreciated how much information we had about their COVID procedures when we arrived and how well organised the pub was. Very responsible in the current circumstances! The staff still manage to make it a pleasant experience. Thanks

We went for Sunday Roast didn’t enjoy at all. Firstly we were greeted with a headache-inducing list of Covid safety requirements, of which I’ve seen less requirements at two local general hospitals. We had to order via a QR code which resembled an IQ test, and the Sunday roast wasn’t even listed to order and therefore my boyfriend plucked up the courage to the break the very rules they’d put in place to speak to a member of staff to order food! The service there on was bad, my food came out before the drinks, coming to the table within 5 minutes of ordering. As a coeliac, I’ve always enjoyed going to this pub given their focus on dietary requirements and gluten free options. When the food did arrive it wasn’t GF despite efforts made before and on the day to inform them. The plate was taken away no apology offered and replaced with a meager meal, having sampled various Sunday roast in the local area, can safely say this is the poorest quality. Even in these different times when everybody is adapting, I don’t think this was an acceptable and we left as quickly as possible.Overall, the impression we got was that they actually didn’t want really want to be there and by the end of it I certainly didn’t want to be there.Other businesses have reopened safely but still with a warm welcome it’s a shame they haven’t.

We visited yesterday for Sunday lunch, very disappointing as the beef was overcooked and tough, also very few veg and swimming in gravy, we have always had good food her but this is the second time in a few weeks and it has definitely gone down hillI think £2.60 for a small plastic bottle of water is really outrageous I couldn’t fault the staff but we will not be returning, the Aubrey arms just down the road is much better and cheaper

Visited The Bush for a birthday drink, with the mind to perhaps order some food, two Saturdays ago. Was slightly alarmed at the first thing which one sees at the entrance to the pub - a four-foot blackboard outlining their "toilet procedure" - hardly a warm welcome, but we persevered anyway. There appeared to be only the option to sit outside, despite the fact that the pub inside was empty (and this was mid-pm, after the lunchtime rush). On sitting at our table we were faced with two A4 sheets of paper - one was the menu, the other was a 16-point "code of conduct", along with another iteration of the aforementioned toilet procedure. So much for a relaxing environment. Just felt like complete overkill in a country pub which we've used before. Treating customers like biohazards might be tolerated in the city centre, but is it appropriate here? We left after one drink. I'm sure that the venue will respond with claims that they have no choice but to enact these measures due to government guidelines. To which I'll reply: no! It is your choice how dystopian you want your business to come across as. We visited several of your competitors on the same day, and the approach taken in all of them was a lot more "normal" while conforming to safety guidelines. Very sad, as we've visited before but will be in no hurry to return while the "hospitality" element seems to have taken a back seat to box-ticking.

A pub we have visited many times in the past for drinks and food. Visited twice in the last few weeks and unfortunately found the place quite unwelcoming. when we asked for a table found the staff member very rude and abrupt and acted like we were an inconvenience for even being there....As a result we stayed for 1 drink and left. It’s actually quite sad as we have decided we won’t be returning and found other friendlier Independent pubs in the vale that do want our support during these difficult times.

Been visiting the bush inn for a few years now. We'd always come for the pies but we heard during lockdown they started doing pizza. Amazing. Well managed booking and ordering system and adhering to the track and trace (which some restaurants don't seem to bother with) the pizza really is the best outside of Italy. And the easy to use online ordering system was great!please keep the pizzas going as we will be returning not just for the pies but the great authentic pizza in future.

It's all pretty basic at the moment, and provided you're ok with that, it's a pleasant experience. Local businesses need our support to survive the current restrictions, and with the imminent threat in the media of pubs having to close again to keep schools open, life must be really tough for owners.Food is served in cardboard boxes, burgers, pizzas, and drinks are in plastic glasses. Pizzas are good, chips well cooked, burgers ok.Having been twice, once with eat out to help out, the discount makes for a very good value meal out.Staff are all masked and very covid-focussed, and for many people this will be very reassuring, although it seems very clinical when compared to our recent experience in Bills (Cardiff Bay). That being said, can we live with that at the moment - yes, absolutely; is this sustainable in the medium term - no, defintely not. The staff and management have shown themselves to be very adaptable and committed in the past, and hopefully they'll move through this successfully

Came to the Bush Inn with high expectations, sadly let down by poor standard of food. I had the classic burger and I could honestly say I’d make that on the bbq at home. I also had the garlic pizza bread which the dough was raw and inedible. Collectively a disappointing and overpriced meal and experience.

The Bush was recommended by another restaurant. We managed to get a table and was greeted and seated by a friendly staff member. We ordered food via their app and took advantage of the eat out to help out offer. Food arrived promptly and was all lovely. The staff were helpful throughout to all the guest and were flexible when people were unable to order and pay on-line.All in all a lovely hour or so outside enjoying food and drinks.

A very friendly and welcoming pub in the centre of Coychurch. We recently joined a family event with 50+ people and the team were organised, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The buffet food was excellent, the set up they provided for us was well presented and there was ample free parking. As a family with a toddler aged 2.5 years, we were made to feel very welcome.
