Always enjoy our nights here! Great food and service

As we walked in off the street, without a reservation, we were greeted with a smile but an empty restaurant. A real log fire adds to the ambience and keeps the place comfortably warm. The food was amazing, wife had curried chicken and I had the steak and kidney pudding, the gravy was AMAZING!. Would definitely recommend going in if you're hungry and in the area.

We visit this wonderful restaurant regularly, and have never been disappointed. Sunday lunch is particularly good, good sized portions of extremely tasty food, well served and an excellent atmosphere.

We were recommended this by a friend, and we were not disappointed. It's a beautiful place, and the food was fabulous. We'll definitely be going there again.

We held our perfect wedding reception here on 22/12/2 in a beautiful, intimate setting (especially at Christmas time) with great food, drink and hospitality. We have visited Illtud's on numerous occasions but this was our first Christmas day lunch, wow what an amazing experience, Illtud's is always warm and welcoming, but the whole restaurant was dressed beautifully for Christmas lunch, a lovely fire burning, tables decorated, hot mulled wine on arrival, so many wonderful courses, I can honestly say this was the best Christmas day lunch we've had, and we eat out every Christmas day. The staff as usual made us very welcome, and nothing was to much trouble, thank you all for making our day so special, kind regards Carol Goddard.

We love Illtids, however, it's not a 5 star review only due the fact that some desserts came with custard/ice cream and others had none. Lovely place though and the staff are always very pleasant and helpful.

Such a shame about the lamb as it was inedible,service very poor not asked if we needed drinks and basically they don't know a lot about hospitality.I will not be dining there again .....

The most delicious Sunday lunch the lamb was to die for! The roasties and veg were gorgeous and a huge yourkshire with the most amazing thick gravy!! Perfect!!

Amazing food, waitress new about my allergies and was able to tell me what to avoid and what could be amended. Quirky and cosy.

Strange and dingey decor, waitresses were very attentive and nice. As for the food, absolutely terrible. I had a lasagne which was thick tough and dry, no creaminess to it just lots of rich tomato sauce. Husband had curried chicken breast, chicken was overcooked and dry with a badly made curry sauce and oddly served with overcooked seasonal veg. Won't be returning

Had a stunning Sunday lunch here. 2 course meal very reasonably priced and portions were more than enough so also left very full!! Everything was delicious, huuuuge Yorkshire puddings and the gravy was absolutely amazing! Will definitely visit again!

I've been coming here for several years now and I can say I've always had an amazing meal and experience here. The service is great every time and the food is always brilliant! (The pork belly is a favourite of mine) all in a rustic and romantic environment, what more could you want.

Great sat by a roaring fire. Staff attentive and promp with service. Food is of a high standard and plentiful.

I (PG) reserved a table for two, accompanied by our trainee guide dog, Justin. Taking account of personal circumstances, we decided to leave the puppy at home. When we arrived, the owner kindly enquired about Justin and then directed us to our table. We received faultless attention by employees and, in characterful surroundings, enjoyed eating fabulous food, served at a nice pace. Considering we also had cocktails and wine, we felt the cost was amazingly reasonable. We will return!

Great menu, every single item sounded so delicious and the quality/portions of what we did order were great. Also a unique interior and really friendly service.

Eight of my family visited Illtyds for Sunday lunch yesterday and only two were happy with their food, tuff chewy lamb and beef. The manager did ask if we would like anything else instead, but with waiting and most of the veg eaten what was the point. Very disappointed this was not reflected in the bill at least.

Good service, lovely atmosphere. Would not order meat again, you couldn't cut it, or chew it. Dessert was very nice though

Pretty average menu. Very poor, bought-in starters, followed by a table full of tasty, well cooked steak and belly pork dishes, unfortunately hit and miss. Service wasnt great.

1 Star ⭐️ We planned a move evening out and visited on the 26/08/22 for a meal out. I am really sorry to say the food was very average at best. To start with 3 of our party all had French onion soup. We were all very disappointed and left it the soup unpicked . It was Very bland - grey in colour with virtually raw onion in it and tasteless and cost £6.50 per portion. Really really disappointing. Sirloin Steak wasn’t cooked very well, not left to rest and blood all over my plate. Pudding was awlful £6.50 for ice cream. Barely two scoops covered in squirty cream. None of our party of six enjoyed our food and the final bill came to £220z Much nicer places to eat on the vale I am sorry To say. The service on the other hand was 5star and the waitress was very engaging and polite . Much improvement needed in relation to the food.

Great venue. Service great. Do not order the the meat and kidney pie, it.was like eating rubber bands. Excuse must have been a bad batch. Offered an alternative so went with chicken curry,rubbish. Meat over cooked young chefs in the kitchen Cheap produce purchased. Ovoid this place pse. What would I know, I was a mystery guest.

The building itself is really impressive. The food is at a high standard and having been there a handful of times and tried different things they have all been great.

A wonderful family run restaurant with the most well presented & delicious food. We highly recommend the garlic bread which tasted amazing & was a huge portion to share. The mussels were incredible as well as the curried chicken breast. We’ll definitely be returning in future 😊

Had a great time at this lovely establishment last evening. Food was delicious, service impeccable and the ambience was sublime. My friends who eat out often and are very honest about their experiences said it was one of the nicest meals and restaurants they had been to. Would highly recommend to anyone and will definitely be eating there again.

We were welcomed and taken to a table the back of the restaurant. There was one chair and a bench seat. I was uncomfortable on the bench seat. There was a wooden bar sticking into my back and I couldn't relax. As there were plenty of empty tables during the time we were there we can't understand why we were put there. We had booked in advance. The room is cavernous and dark, rather gloomy. It was difficult to see our meal. My husband, who isn't a big eater, asked if it was possible for him to have a smaller beef dinner. This was refused. We can only think that this is because it was not freshly cooked bt came out of a catering pack. I ordered slow cooked roasted belly pork. It was not at all good. Even if it is slow cooked its fat should have been nicely browned and not white and soggy. Both meals came with a separate dish of vegetables, 2 soggy sprouts, 2 thin carrot slices and a small piece of broccoli . We think they were frozen. The trifle was ok as was the bread pudding.

We visited for a 70 family birthday, being in the business ourselves we are very attuned to customer service. The quality of the food, was very good and the food was well presented and very tasty….also the staff were excellent and the service was also impressive ….well done all for tonight’s service we could not fault a thing…will defiantly be retuning

I had the most delicious lunch here, last week. Scallops to start, then mussels for my mains. I was too full for dessert, so went back in the evening for the classic Austrian Apfel Strudel. The food, atmosphere, service & staff are outstanding.

We booked a table for 4 on 6th March 2020We were very disappointed. Duck starter was OK, soup tasteless could not tell what it was. Caesar salad OK, prawn starter looked like cat food and tasted terrible. Main course, 3 of us had the Chicken curry (Thin gravy with a hint of something) chicken breast obviously cooked separate as very dry. One of us had the belly pork with mash, no flavour or seasoning very bland. All meals were served with a small dish of root veg which was limp and tasteless. Drinks-my friend asked for a Guinness and was advised they may have a can left from Christmas!! Which was duly left for him at the end of the table unopened. Then when we asked for the bill was told that their card machine was not working. Never again!!

Lovely food, but be careful with the drinks some are very pricey.

I visited this restaurant recently and had a great evening. The staff are fabulous and the food equally good. We stumbled across this restaurant in the main Street not expecting to find it where we did - and we were so glad we did. Great food. Great staff. Great atmosphere and a free car park opposite. It is worth searching for this restaurant.

Highly recommend this lovely restaurant with delicious food and very friendly service. We’ve been here a couple of times and had a wonderful memorable experience both times. Also very accommodating for dietary restrictions.

We wanted to book at table for 8 people to have tea/coffee/cake and were very curtly refused by The Cwtch, so asked Illtud's 216 and they readily agreed. They were extremely accomodating, even though this wasn't their usual sort of business. We really enjoyed our visit, experiencing a number of dishes from the sweet menu, which were all delicious, along with beautifully presented teas and coffees. We highly recommend this very accommodating restaurant. Many thanks, no doubt we will be back.

After a morning exploring Llantwit Mayor's lovely old church and a walk on it's spectacular shore line we were ready for lunch. Illtud's 216 didn't disappoint. The daily special offered a tasty caesar salad followed by a beef brisket with grilled root veg - all delicious. Great value at £12:50. Good glass of Merlot too!

Great service, staff very helpful with disabled and wheelchair users. Food wonderful. Everyone from Barry Blind club enjoyed everything.

We visited Illtyds on a friday evening, the welcome was good and they fitted us in at short notice,however the food was dreadful!, the duck salad starter was warm stewed duck in a sauce in the middle of 3 salad leaves with some dried pomegranite seeds sprinkled around ,my partner choose prawn cocktail the prawns were barley defrosted and tasteless and the sauce was unbelievably bad ! we both chose pork belly for mains which arrived on a mountain of mashed potatoes the presentation was almost as bad as the taste we will not be returning

We love coming here with my partners brother and his girlfriend who live nearby, if we have food in Llantwit this is alway the first choice! Absolutely delicious food and drinks, the waiter (it always seems to be the same one!) is very friendly and nice, I highly recommend the gnocchi main course and the dolmades & humus starter, the veggie Glamorgan sausages are also delicious and my partner loved his belly pork

The staff and owners are warm and welcoming. The food, whenever I have eaten there which has been a number of times, has been very good. Portion sizes are generous and excellent choices. Highly recommended.

The restaurant was recommended by locals in the pub next door. What a special place! Lovely seating in front dining area but we were wowed by the larger atmospheric rear dining room! What a surprise! Menu selection was excellent catering well for the veggies, gluten free-ers and meat lovers. Superb quality, generous servings all beautifully presented! Attentive friendly staff. Fantastic food, fresh and extremely tasty. The service from our waiter Callum, was second to none. He couldn’t do enough for me and my wife, who has recently had treatment for Cancer and became unwell before meals arrived. Callum packed our food up and allowed us to take meals home. Much appreciated, will definitely return.

Everything is a matter of opinion but in our opinion the Best roast beef around is to be had at Illtyd’s 216. It is our default treat for a Sunday lunch when we’ve been really good, or when we’ve worked hard, or when the sun came up that morning. We always really enjoy the food here and the staff are lovely.

After a lovely walk along the heritage coastal path, we came upon this restaurant by pure chance and received a warm welcome even though it was well after 2pm. Delicious pumpkin soup. Excellent Sunday roast and apple strudel. The staff were very friendly and obliging. Absolutely recommended.

My partner and I had a lovely meal at this restaurant. The atmosphere here is relaxing, but I mainly wanted to say with review is how friendly our waiter was (sorry I didn't catch your name). He made my boyfriend and I feel welcome and even more relaxed, so thank you.

Illtud’s 216 has to be in my opinion the best restaurant in Llantwit Major. The service has been brilliant each time we have dined whether it be an evening meal or a family Sunday roast. The menu is excellent as is the wine selection. The food is brilliant, keep it up we will be back

I’ve experienced this restaurant as hit and mis, we living in Llantwit and used to eat offen, some times the food is great then not that great. The restaurant has good parking across the road in the town hall car park. There are 3 old pubs next door and the town is beautiful. The dinning are is split in two parts which is nice for a quiet dinner, the price is not expensive and the drinks are nice, wine great. But just hit and mis for meals. I don’t want you to not go there, it is a nice, clean lovely restaurant and you must experience it yourself.

French onion soup, then beef with vegetebles & finally apple strudel (famed for it it seems & it was very nice). £21 for the 3 courses, a little expensive perhaps by comparison with many places but worth the extra i felt.

Having visited this restaurant a little while ago and was very impressed decided to travel into Llantwit with some friends for a second visit on Saturday night. I am so pleased we did the evening was so enjoyable the food is really amazing the service was excellent made even more so by our waiter who was so welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable. One of our party required a Gluten Free menu and they went over and above to accommodate her. The owner of the restaurant who is present clearly wants to make sure that you have an enjoyable experience and I must say we did she was delightful. It is so rare these days to go out and enjoy both the food and the service I must admit we can not wait to revisit soon.

A lovely venue serving well-presented, excellent quality, delicious meals at a reasonable price. We have visited many times and never been disappointed. It is well worth a visit.
