Having completed a long walk, we were really looking forward to a cold pint and a nice lunch in the Plough. We used to visit quite regulary and always enjoyed it. It is now under new ownership and they did not impress. Firstly, having chosen from the bagette menu written on the beam, we were informed there were none. Had to order from the main menu, chose a Welsh Rarebit with spiced apple chutney, my husband had the sausage and mash, but wanted chips instead. They seemed not very happy about the potato choice, and were really dissmissive when I advised of a peanut allergy, which was bit worrying. When the food came out, the 'Welsh Rarebit' with spiced apple chutney, was just burnt melted cheese on a half ciabiata with a cardboard pot of thin cheap brown sauce. The sausages came with 8 chips. They were really nice chips to be fair, but 8?? The pint of Neck Oil had a head like a Mr Whippy and the glass was just plain filthy, with what looked like ash around the rim. When I was asked how the food was, I began to say how dissapointing I found it as I was looking forward to the chutney, but instead had got brown sauce which I don't even like. The staff member became quite defensive and tried to convince me it was chutney. It wasn't. He then started following me accross the pub and pointing the menu at me which I found quite intimidating, so I didn't get the chance to tell him how horrible the rest of the meal was. We left hungry and dissapointed, won't be back. Which is a shame, used to be a great pub.

wonderful nice mother's day, we didn't have a reservation but with the help of a nice waiter we got a table. We ordered roast beef and roast pork, it was very tasty, the pork melted in your mouth, the variety of vegetables was tasty, at the end we took a dessert eton mess 😋 it was fantastic. Thank you very much and until the next meeting

First visit to this pub. Lovely sunny Spring day. Welcoming inside with open log fires. Nice ambiance. Ordered beer which was good and then decided to order a Beef Sunday Lunch. Discovered it was £22.50 a head for a lunch which I thought was very steep, but hey we were in the Vale of Glamorgan where you’d expect to pay a bit more for quality !!!. Except it wasn’t. The beef was average and was quite fatty along with being cold. The veg was cold. The roasties were like rock and the gravy was thin and tasteless. How they can charge these prices for this rubbish is beyond me. I will certainly avoid eating in the pub again, or visiting again for that matter.

Lovely old pub, in a fantastic part of Wales. Unfortunately one of the least welcoming pubs we've ever been to. We first came here over 7 years ago, and we loved it. There was always a warm welcome, the food was varied and reasonably priced. Changes in management seem to have destroyed the once lovely atmosphere. The staff, and I presume manager appear to have lost the power of speech, and have reverted to grunts and pointing. When we popped in, it was very quiet, but we received no welcome whatsoever, just a slightly surly attitude. We decided against food, and just had a drink instead. The Ale, and Cider were lovely. Needless to say, we wont be going back. An American Werewolf in London springs to mind.

Family members have been visiting this pub for over 50 years. Today’s visit with 4 generations was rather disappointing. It appears to be under new management and all was a bit chaotic. We had a table booked but there was no table available. We were told other people could be moved but this didn’t seem right and as the sun was shining we decided to sit outside. The solution is simple .. place a reserved @time sign on table so anyone choosing to sit there knows they have to move at that time ! We ordered our drinks .. from a much reduced selection of beer than we have become used to. This pub used to be famous for its real ales OK Jemmima Pitchfork was on tap but we can go to numerous local pubs for Butty Bach and HB. We agreed the drinks would be added to our slate but shortly after we were reminded we hadn’t paid for the drinks. Like I said .. chaotic ! The menu was limited and maybe was trying too hard for what is primarily a walkers pub where all you need is a good value pub food with a good pint. Although listed on menu there was no vegetarian meal available. Neither was there a children’s option other than a mini version of the adults .. a 3 year old who had used loads of energy on the beach wants chips and not roast potatoes and beef. Having said all above the food was actually quite nice. Please P&H try harder .. you are in a brilliant location and need to cater for your main customer base and not try to be bistro pub. Maybe the landlord should check out how it’s done in the Gwaelod Y Garth Inn. Another walkers pub with fantastic beer and food choice.

Walked here from Ogmore-by-Sea. Tried to order food at 2.30. The bar area was full of people eating. Was told they had just turned the kitchen off. Was told some story about the gas taking 15 minutes to turn back on. Not that I asked. I was very disappointed but thought fine, is what it is. Ordered drinks. There was nowhere to sit in the bar area so went into the empty restaurant to sit as we were exhausted from our walk. Only to be told this area was closed and we shouldn't be there. We went into the beer garden to have our drinks. 15 minutes later a table next to us was brought out food!!. Absolutely furious. Obviously the " gas" hadn't been turned off and the kitchen was still cooking. To be turned away was completely out of order and really spoilt part of our day.

Absolutely dreadful. Insipid unseasoned undercooked cod in batter. Catering supplies tartare sauce, with the high point being the slice of lemon. Not cheap and better fish in frozen section of farm foods. Regular visitor for over thirty years, this is by far the worst meal I've ever had there and maybe anywhere. Lots of customers plates going back with lots of food. Shame they have stopped selling Bass, but sign of the times. Some other nice cask beers from Wye valley. Enjoy the ale and the fire.

Have been here before and all was good. Decided to stop off and have Sunday lunch. Expected the fire to be burning considering it was a cold, wet and damp day but was greeted a small column of white smoke…not at all warm. Not sure what it is with what seems like a sticky water based varnished table top with meant that the paper menus could not be picked up unless you dug into the varnish with your finger nails. Having our youngest with us we did ask for the children’s menu as stated on the main menu, to only be told the children’s meals are just smaller portions of the adult ones. In my book, when it states there is a menus available for children, I would expect different offerings. TIP annotate the menu to say that smaller portions are available for children instead. Maybe there is a separate menu and perhaps the staff couldn’t be bothered. Anyway, as a result, we left before ordering anything. You let yourselves down today unfortunately.

These days, there are few pubs that are worth making an effort to visit. The Plough and Harrow is an exception. It is in a fairly rural location, but there are some nice walks down to the coast, if that is your thing. The Plough and Harrow is at its best on a warm summer's day. There is plenty of outdoor seating where you can soak up the countryside. The menu is fairly standard, but good quality, and over the many times we have eaten here we've never been disappointed. The beer varies, but is kept to a very high standard, and there's almost always something new and interesting to try. Other than the addition of electric light (although candles are used a lot as well), the interior does not look like it has changed much for several centuries.

We were camping just down the road at the Heritage Coast Campsite and stopped in the Plough and Harrow for Sunday lunch. I'd call it a proper country pub - lots of character, good food and some excellent drinks. There were a couple of real ales on tap (Jemima's Pitchfork was really nice), but for me the local ciders were the highlight - far too drinkable for their strength. If you've never been it's worth diverting off the beaten track to find it. A true ancient pub unspoilt by modern trappings. Also there's a good walk to a wild beach. I have a severe garlic intolerance and would have appreciated a comment on the menu that garlic was being used. Otherwise, really pleased and will definitely be back. Well done all! .

Have been a frequent regular to the Plough and Harrow for years prior to lockdown and thought we would return to try the Sunday roast. Atmosphere was not very welcoming, staff seemed stressed and it has lost its relaxed vibe. Food arrived quickly. Beef and beef gravy was delicious and tender, the rest was a disappointment. The vegetables were obviously frozen and very under cooked, the cauliflower cheese was just a bland cheese sauce and there was sweetcorn, which is not a veg I would put with a roast. The Yorkshire pudding was hard and had been hanging around and the roast potatoes were reheated. It did not arrive hot, more luke warm. For £18 I would expect to be exceptional. We paid and left quickly. Sadly we won’t be returning.

This is a lovely country pub and restaurant. The food is great, and their new menu addition of bara brith bread and butter pudding is to die for! There's a great variety of ciders or real ale available, and its cosy atmosphere makes it well worth a visit.

Great location, amazing beer, proper old pub. Good service, food average. Vegetarian options very limited, Glamorgan sausage contains only potatoes. Been visiting here for 40 years and won't be eating here again. Visited here more recently and I have to say that not one of the staff looked at all happy. No one thanked me for paying, borderline rude. Don't think I'll be back till it changes hands again!

We eat here a couple of times a year and have drinks a few more. Last week we took our son and our parents so six of us for Sunday lunch. We each had a roast and there were a choice of Beef, Lamb and turkey plus a vegetarian option. The food was delicious as usual. Each dinner is served with a generous portions of thickly sliced meat and bowls of fresh perfectly cooked vegetables. The pub was busy and our dinners came in ten minutes. Homemade desserts next and they were as good as the roasts. The service is pleasant and efficient with nothing too much hassle. The cask ales are excellent. We will be back!

Didn't eat so can't rate the food. Nice big beer garden. Always a nice glass of something when we visit here.

Some things are just beautiful. Cillian Murphy's cheek bones, for example. You don't need to analyse. You just go with it. Enter the Lounge's new Smokey Prawn Sri Lankan Curry. Rich smokey prawns, petfect rice, creamy indulgent sauce and the zing of lime. Don't fight it. Bathe in it. It's good for you!

We went as a family of 6 for Sunday lunch. Service was good but unfortunately the beef Sunday lunch was terrible. After using 3 different steak knives I was still unable to cut through the beef. My husband’s beef was the same. I was eventually given pork as an alternative which was ok. I was shocked to see that our 2 daughter’s pork, that they had ordered for their Sunday lunch, was half the size of the pork that I was given as an alternative for the inedible beef. It seemed like their pork slices had been cut in half and shared between their 2 meals. Also the cauliflower cheese was mushy and tasteless and it seemed like it had been kept warm for hours. Although saying that none of our meals were very warm. Reading the good reviews we may have just been unlucky, however as I never complain, I just needed to write this review, as the meal was shocking and we were very disappointed. Needless to say I cannot recommend the Hare and Hounds and will definitely not eat there again.

Ordered via Just Eat. Phoned after 1 hour was told it’s on its way. Phoned again 20 mins later was told will be ready in 5 mins. Food finally arrived an hour ad a half after ordering Batter was soggy not crisp. Not recommended for delivery orders as it appears they just cannot be bothered.

Had the new spring lunch menu today and my lamb dish was probably the nicest meal I have ever eaten.
