The Master Fryer in The Vale of Glamorgan

If you ever buy sauces or ketchup they charge happily but never put it in the bag. Last 4 times in a row now...no sauce or ketchup..which is easy done but if you charge you have to give it to the customer. Time before those cold food will go somewhere else now. Not worth it. Over priced too.

Waited an hour and a half for cold food! Why take the order if you can't deliver a service!

Nice food, well presented and open on boxing day

We ordered the platter to share between a few of us for delivery, which arrived promptly piping hot! All the food included in the platter was really tasty including the curry sauce and the amazing gravy they served!! This is the first time we have ordered here for a while due to where we live, but it certainly won't be the last now following this most recent exeperience.

Ordered takeaway for me and my children this evening never again will I order from here I have ordered fish and chips and I’ve taken a bite of the fish to get a bone stabbing me in the gum thought nothing of it carried on eating to then nearly choke on 2 other bones this meal wasn’t edible!

Always order this on Uber eats, especially at late time when I finish work, never shows up, if your closed turn off your Uber eats tablet, I’ve lost money waiting for nothing.

Good is superb..ordered today 18th October long wait for delivery over an hour .prices do not match menu prices over priced on every item extra £1 per item for delivery .last time from there sorry unil.

AWFUL!!!! Completely wrong order and when rung up to say they left the phone on the side having a conversation about me while I could hear. Very rude staff, and no one knows or understands anything!! What a joke!!

Food was greasy on the outside but dry on the inside I had fish bites but only had 2 bites of one as it was awful.

Very slow delivery, ordered from the Master Fryer App. (Just under an hour for chips, burger, pie and fishcake) The Victoria park pie was obviously microwaved and all of the pastry was soggy. It was already inedible, but what made it worse was the long hair on it. (It went straight in the bin) I like the master fryer normally, but the quality of the food recently has definitely gone downhill.

Great, quick service & very reasonably priced but if I'm to be honest I have tasted nicer kebabs from a different local kebab shop and can reccomend MoMo's on broad street instead

Very disappointed! Food was over 1/2 hour later than estimated and the chips were cool as was the fish. Curry sauce was up to temperature.

I wish the fat one with no teeth would learn how to cook a piece of fish properly instead of trying to flirt with my Mrs. Smelly boy

Absolutely best fish and chips, sausage AND mild curry sauce. A great place to have food overall. Can't comment highly enough of Master Fryer.

Lovely place staff really friendly and food was lush . Went late in evening but guy was more than happy to cook it fresh without any hesitation…. Definitely go again

Since the take over , food takes over an hour and half to come , was barely warm. Don’t get me wrong the foods nice but the waiting times are ridiculous.

Decent chippy good sized portions and decent quality, but not the cheapest. You get what you pay for. Recommended.

Not one to complain however had food from master fryer, fish and chips, savaloy and chips x2, took almost an hour to deliver and food was warm, chips poor, fish over cooked. Very poor

Impolite, rude. Ordered 5pm....rang up 6:50 to be told ringing driver and was on way, rang 20 mins later to be told it was actually just sent out..driver arrived 7:25 unaware food was cancelled. Driver gave my partner attitude. No manager in at all and kept saying to speak to just eat to get my refund when I couldn't as I was stuck on delivery driver on way from 6:10! Worst customer service and experience. Lost a customer! Just waiting to see if just eat will refund my order as its down to them apparently!! 1 driver on a Saturday night? I understand but almost 2 and a half hours for food!!!???

Order at 5 took over 2 hours for the food to be delivered, we rang up at 10 to 7 to see where our food was to be told the driver has it and should be with us shortly, waited 20 minutes nothing showed up, we rang for the second time to find out where the driver is with our food and to be told that he hasn't left as there was an error with just eat for deliverers, we then asked them to cancel the order as we waited for 2 hours. 5 minutes later after we cancel our food over the phone your delivery drive shows up.

Value for money, good portion size and good choice of menu for those difficult family members who don't eat fish and chips... 🙄

This place I went into tonight I ordered food for me & my friend got home food ruined cold meat soggy chips and swamped in garlic mayo & mint sauce . Will never set foot in there again

£9.50 for a large cod that was no thicker than a sausage in batter and no peas were sent with the order that were ordered shocking will not use again. Shocking also tried to ring to complain but to no avail.

Ordered Large Fish and chips, it was a piddly little thing in soggy batter with a handful of chips literally, which were warm and needed to be microwaved. Have enjoyed chips there before but HUGE disappointment tonight, in the bin they go and considering the price, nope won't go there again

Food was ordered through just eat. It arrived within the time limit but was barely warm. Fish batter was soggy, battered sausage was soggy, and the handle of the bag was burnt and there was bits of ash possibly cigarette ash inside bag. Shame cos I just spent a considerable amount of money on what was probably nice food when it was hot....am gutted but we live and learn. I'll stick to my usual takeaway in future ☹️

Really lovely white fresh fish and light crispy batter. Nice chips too. Freshly made pizza, you can get all this amazing food in one place as shops are next door to each other. You must visit. Nice friendly helpful staff. Will be back soon as I can.

What an absolute joke ordered food at 7.30 to be told at 9.40 my food should have been delivered ages ago finally at 10pm my order turns up missing items and in replacement was a carton of manky onion rings rang to complain and was told my sauces will be with my straight away to then answer the door to a man hanging me a pot full of another portion of manky onion rings and no sauce rang back to be told I will give them to you next time you order from us but I’ve been put off ordering from these now because they obviously can’t read an order correctly oh and also the food was freezing cold Aswell and needed reheating in the microwave

Ordered on phone at 6 10 got meal at 740 cold no apology from driver worst £18 I’ve spent never again

I really love this place because it treats me like am home. They are too courteous and always prompt with my orders. Sometimes, they are jam packed and do take time but their politeness and food compensates for it many folds. Thanks Anil

Worst takeaway ever. They knocked the door once and gave us less than a minute to get to the door. They just left it on the doorstep. We then noticed they'd packed all the containers on their sides so all the sauces had leaked out from the curries and burgers. At the bottom of the bag there was a pool of oil so it was all just a oily sloppy mess. The chicken curry and chips were just mushy messed with a weird taste to them with miniscule pieces of so called chicken that had hard bits and grissle throughout it. The fish bites, onion rings and chips were just so oily and slimy. I can't even think of a way to describe the contents of the spring roll except it was disgusting and I've never had anything like it before and would never want it ever again. There was so much pastry on the spring roll that it was still raw and soagy on the inside. We decided to not even attempt the burger after everything else being so disgusting. We've been ill since then overnight. EVERYONE SHOULD AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS TO AVOID WASTING MONEY AND TO AVOID FOOD POISONING LIKE WE HAD!!!

Lovely clean establishment but the food didn't live up to expectations, the chips are pale and the curry was like gloom. Went because years ago it was the best but sadly won't be returning

Have had deliveries and also gone to shop for food! Always lovely and freshly cooked! Fishcakes are delicious 😋 My son always has a tray of chicken curry and rice! Their mild curry still has a bit of heat in it! The hot curry is very hot 🔥 He always says he wishes that there was a curry between the Irish and The hot! Very generous portions of chips! They aren't greasy either! Definitely our go to for a chippy tea and very reasonably priced as well! Fantastic guys top notch! 👏

Poor I will never order again. I placed an order through there website online. Then I added to my order but it was a separate order. . I then decided to cancel 2nd order being on the phone by them I need to do on line. When order arrived I only had one order but I payed for two separate ones . As far as I am concerned they have stolen money from me. I have messaged them but no reply. . I will never recommend them to no one. Shocking place . Food was cold and undercooked anyway.

This was our second visit to the master fryer On both occasions our order was prepared whilst we waited be fresh and hot it was presented in a clean manner the master fryer is clean and demonstrates the best in cleanliness not the cheapest fish and chips but if you and yours demand the best it worth the money ps with your meal one gets a free can of your choice

There was a big queue, far too many staff behind the counter all getting in each others way and I waited along tine for 2 pie and chips and a bag of chips and they gave me the wrong pies. I wasn't the only one complaining as they were leaving things out of there orders, absolute chaos. 🤔

Ordered food at 6.55...did not arrive until 8.45!! Cold and soggy as driver given various wrong addresses, instead of calling me back to check details..and because I couldn't make my child wait any longer to eat, instead of waiting on fresh replacement, they even charged me with only £2 taken off for the inconvenience when at very least meal should have been free this time, awful customer service and will not be using again despite being local

Be careful. Daughter and boyfriend very sick today after kebab last night from there. Chips might be good but careful of the meat

Never had a bad chip. Decent portion sizes, bright, clean and covid secure. They do an older person's fish and chips if you don't have a big appetite. Delivery available. Up there with the best chippies in Barry.

Went here this evening. Ordered Pie and Chips and a fish cake with curry sauce. Got home no fish cake. Rang the shop and within 10 minutes they had delivered fish cake and another portion of chips. Exellent customer service. Thankyou.

Just had a extra large kebab order to share between 2 with chips etc my normal kebab order from other places, it was stone cold the portion size was barely enough for 1 none if the salad was fresh and the pitta was rock hard very disappointing as the chip shop side of things are usually really good.

Food is great but other customers not wearing masks and hanging around the counter put me off going there again.

Can be busy at times even when it doesn't look it due to online orders

I went for food not only did I wait a while the way this man talks to staff he should be ashamed of himself. He is very rude more to the people working for him than customer should be ashamed on how you treat your staff! Won't come go after I seen how rude to staff a lone. Not a good place for food!

Can't comment on food because the wait for food is horrific if you turn up at the store. Online orders are prioritised. Been waiting outside for 20 minutes with only person ahead in the queue. Also tried ro to call to make telephone order and called 50+ times over a 15 minute time period with no answer. May consider changing rating if food is of average standard. If rating is still 1 star then assume its poor or worse.

Shame I can't rate zero stars, chips had the texture of deep fried cardboard, sausage tastes like more herb than meat, the gravy was so thick they should serve it by the slice, and the prices are absolutely disgusting plus there's a minimum £10 if you want to pay on card which Is against government legislation. Any good reviews you see are definitely created accounts by the owner or people who have lost their sense of smell and taste and enjoy wasting money on disgusting food . FOUL

The best fish and chips in town, generous portion sizes with amazing quality and taste. Could not ask for better.

ABIT overpriced compared to others in area

This is our first visit and we were impressed with the service, quality and taste of the food. We ordered two fish and chips with a side of mushy peas and a small sausage in batter with chips. The food was ready in about 15 minutes and the portion sizes were perfect. The food tasted great and the fish was lovely and flaky with a crispy batter. The fish shop was clean and the staff were nice.

Nice food, shame there is no notice that it's £10 MINIMUM on a card. Turned out to be an expensive lunch. Staff were okay but condescending about the spend on the card. Also my order was wrong. I won't be going back again soon. They are going to loose loads of business with a £10 minimum spend on a card. Another couple left as they only needed to spend £5.50 on what they wanted. Not impressed.

Very poor.com 1) Don’t take card for less than £10, going against Government legislation 🤨 2) waited outside for 25 mins for order, their automated machine calling service doesn’t work if you are more than 10 yards away 🤨 3) ordered large fish, large sausage and large chips, all came in one small box, chips were not even a regular size for one person 🤨 quizzed them and they stated that this was a large portion . If that’s the case order 6 large chips for the average couple 🤨 4) because of the delay/wait , food was stone cold🤦🏼 5) you can add the poor attitude and less than desirable service for good measure. 6) portions gone drastically down , pricing gone drastically up 🤨 Shame, as normally really like the food here, but we won’t be using again

I think its the best fish & chips in Barry with 5 the highest hygiene rating they deliver or you can phone before hand & pick your order up plus they have in place strict Covid 19 rules lovely people & very professional.

Every new year's day we spoil ourselves and have fish and chips. The Master Fryer is the best cooked to order. And the staff very pleasant Very clean and complys with the Covid restrictions

If you don’t like wearing a mask it’s ok as they will let you stand in the shop and staff will serve you and say nothing. After that customer was served and left a comment was made to staff to which they replied WAS THERE. !!!!!!!! The fish was good but chips were cold. DONT VISIT IF YOU WANT TO AVOID CATCHING COVID 19

Been coming here for a few years. Tonight is probably the last. Constantly getting orders wrong (the last 3 times), there’s always something missing when I get home, and chips are undercooked and stodgy.

normally pretty good but today not so good had too ask for small chips twice and then they didnt put tomatoes in my sonds kabab when anil is there orders are done correctly

Being a Gibby local whenever I’m to lazy to raid the fridge I use this local Gem Amazing range of food from The classic Fresh made to order fish n chips to the beautiful well portioned kebabs all food is amazingly tasty & always hot staff & owner are extremely friendly and always happy to help 5 star food & service ✨✨✨✨✨

Got order wrong three times i asked the young man for jumbo sausage in batter x2 and when i got home he had given me 2 small sausages and 1 jombo sausage not in batter not happy 😣 it was 28th July 630pm/ 645pm even though the order was wrong the food was still delicious 😁

Only positive thing I will say is curry sauce is lovely but overall it’s a disappointment portion sizes are not worth money you pay for them the fish is terrible really greasy dripping with loads off oil potato’s allways in consistent as could be decent on week next they can’t be bothers to peal them properly and there black and taste awfull since new management came it’s down hill rude charge silly prices and tend to forget stuff in orders shame cause under old owners this was always nice place to go now it’s like most places in Barry that have gone down the pecking order shame not many decent take aways anymore

Food not very nice at all. Obviously overcooked sausages (maybe unsold from previous opening period) and cold manky chips that were dripping in fat. Shop has changed owners yet again and you would have thought the food would improve. Must be something intrinsically wrong with the whole establishment if owners keep on changing on such a regular basis. Avoid!!

This now under new management and they are doing a fine job. The previous owners ran a great fish and chip shop and the new operators are keeping the quality and service levels high. Full range of fish and chip style food. I particularly like the Irish recipe curry sauce. There is parking out front but I recommend parking in the Holm View car park opposite and walking across.

Made to order cod.Yes ,real cod ,absolutely delicious flakes of white cod....with ..crispy golden batter.The chips were also perfect.I usually avoid fish from chip shops but today my lunch was so amazing that i have to share the experience.The lady serving this lunchtime, Monday 22 July 2018, was very nice,polite and made you feel valued has a customer.

Been here a few times since new owners have had it , it's ok , but last week I had the worst bag of chips of my life ! The potatoes were unpeeled and the chips were simply awful. I wouldn't visit again

This is one of the worst fish I've had in a long time, was like eating cardboard. I waited for the fish to be cooked fresh but was defiantly not up to their usual standard. Very disappointed.
