A very enjoyable lunch time experience

Food was good, Lesley was very welcoming and provided us with excellent service.

Had a great experience and meal, menu looked incredible and impressive, Was a late booking for mother's day but was treated like royalty, Only complaint was that the kids icecream was pre scooped and portioned prior to ordering, which is great for speed, but awful for trying to give to my 2 year old, as it was rock solid and impossible to get a knife through as a 34 year old man, my 2year old with a spoon didn't stand a chance.

Booked for a special mothers day meal and was very disappointed. Waited so long for our food that a staff member had to ensure us that our food was being plated up next. Food was cold and had very little gravy so had to ask for more which, to our disappointment, was bisto gravy. There was also food missing from plates and didn't receive a side dish. I requested a child's meal but asked for sausage, which they had apparently cooked a veggie sausage by mistake so had to wait for another. I also asked for no kale (kale? For a child?) or green veg on the child's meal which was still plated and still had to ask for gravy. Will not return!!

We have a lovely experience a few weeks back when we visited for lunch on a week day so we decided to book for the family for Mother’s Day, we got there and there was confusion with our table so we were asked to wait in the bar. We were then seated at a different table to where we were originally meant to be sat which happened to be right next to the 2 doors at the back of the restaurant where people were in and out with dogs & leaving the doors open. Anyways, starters arrive and everything was fine until around an hour later and we questioned where our mains were, the girl was very apologetic and said she’s already questioned it with the kitchen, they eventually bought plates out and both the first 2 meals were wrong and got sent back, the rest of the meals arrived with stuffing and crackling missing from the Sunday lunches. They also had no cauliflower cheese or mustard available upon asking. When the bill came we were still charged for cauliflower cheese and our £70 deposit hadn’t been deducted. I must say the waitress was lovely and handled things very well, however I think it’s terrible that kitchen staff/management left it to the poor waitress to come and deal with their wrong doings. When the guy come over with the bill we were told that staff had left at 7pm and that’s what caused the delays, keep in mind our booking was for 5:30pm. Fair to say this bought a right downer to our Mother’s Day and we wouldn’t return in the future.

Four of us went for a meal, great food and a fab time. Lesley served us and she was excellent. Will be back

The food was delicious. I had the sea bass with king prawns which I was really happy with. And there was a lovely atmosphere. Extra thanks to Lesley who served us.

Waitress muddled meals, all meals were over cooked, we had to ask for carrots as they had been missed. We had a long wait for our meals. And we all felt they were over cooked.

Great new menu, team are very professional & friendly, would recommend the lamb fillet & sticky toffee pudding for desert. Great selection of beers including new brew dogs.

Disappointing visit. Strange mix of sauces with the fried chicken burger. Barbecue sauce, burger relish and gravy. Which was impossible to eat as a burger as it was so sloppy with sauce. My gammon was served with 5 full size chips and the rest were bits of burnt chip. Although the gammon was tasty.

The portion of lamb on the Sunday menu is very small and poor. If you complain about it and try to explain and reason without being aggressive, the manager , who is not fit to be a restaurant manager, then accuses you of " showing your teeth " and being aggressive. Then he asks you to leave and starts to phone the Police !! We are an elderly couple, by the way, aged 66 and 70 yrs of age. By the way, we videod the whole episode if Marstons would like to see it. It's a shame they have a manager without any customer service skills in his body because the staff are very pleasant, friendly, and efficient. By the way, the week before, we had lunch there and spent £90 plus a £10 tip !!! NO complaints from the manager that day.

The Sunday Dinner is the best I have ever had. It comes with a huge variety of veggies, all beautifully presented. It was stunning.

Our first time visiting this pub. Lesley behind the bar was friendly and provided great service. I’m quite particular with my drink and she nailed it every time. We’ll be back.

Some of the dishes we had were ok pub food but just average. More about the service was on the slightly frosty side. Not very welcoming. Perhaps they were having a bad day but it should not be passed onto customer.

Popped in for food and a few drinks, had such a great time, Lesley couldn’t have made our time better. Will be back very soon.

Pan fried sea bass was lovely and we were served by Lesley who was excellent.

This was our second visit to the Duke of Wellington, as we wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt after a disappointing first experience — but unfortunately, it was much the same. I’m not usually one to leave reviews, but I feel like small improvements could really make a big difference. The food was average, nothing particularly special, but our main issue was the service. Despite the restaurant not being busy, the staff were not attentive and it was difficult to get their attention. When we finally did, we were met with unfriendly, disinterested attitudes, which made us feel quite uncomfortable — especially as we were nothing but polite and friendly. A few of our orders also arrived incorrect, which added to the frustration. It’s a shame because the pub itself has a lot of potential, but the service really lets it down.

Michelle is our favourite waitress and we love how she always finds time to give us the best experience as we know she is so busy. She is the most experienced waitress there as you can see her helping the other people serving also. She l’s one of life’s grafters, genuine lovely person who cares about the food quality we receive also. If there’s ever been an issue it has been quickly sorted

Homophonic. Walked in to the pub to check it was dog friendly and serving lunch. The snooty lady told me it was both dog friendly and serving food, so I went to collect my same sex partner and our dog. We returned and were told no food was being served. There was a bar and restaurant with people eating and several spare tables. Clearly homophonic. Awful.

Great evening out, love this pub, our favourite in Cowbridge

Wasn't quite the gastronomic experience. Initially we sat in the dining room and had to wait 10 mins to order I eventually went in the kitchen to see if anyone about...the guy didn't really seem interested.... particularly as I indicated we would have the 2 course for £15 Had a bitter shandy which was as flat as the atmosphere. soup starters which were the saving grace of the meal. Fish goujons and chicken strips(3 off each) were all ex frozen and slightly overcooked, 'the skin on, triple cooked fries'.... please let's get back to basic terminology!!! Spoonful of mushed pea and tartare sauce.....the bill indicated that the soup was nearly £6 and the main £11 We had been to weather spoons the day before with a friend and 3 meals with drinks were £26...and well cooked and presented. Don't know if the staff have concerns with Marston's but none had any positivity about themselves, dressed shoddy and didn't smile once. I am not employed by Marston's but could have been a mystery guest and as such not impressed.....would like it if any response?

Had a great time here on Sunday, amazing Sunday roast beef nice & pink, it was very busy but the team could not do enough. Chefs & kitchen team were great. Definitely recommend Sunday roast and will be back.

Another great visit here. We were really looked after by the team and the food was great. Everything tasted so lovely and fresh. The team were really helpful when pointing in the right direction to chose meals that were suitable with allergies.

I opted to award 5 stars for every category because there are some aspects of the Duke that I absolutely love. Is it perfect? Obviously not, nowhere is, but whenever we are in Cowbridge we'll be heading to this lovely pub. It's got a fire going in the front bar, wobbly glass panes in the centuries old windows, dark wood all over the place, people drinking and eating there who clearly know each other and the staff there. It's got history and character in abundance. We've eaten there several times and will do so again. Is there any need for any further recommendation? We tend to eat in the bar, as near to the fire as we can get, but others like to eat in the large dining room at the back, both are lovely. The last time I was there I left my bag behind. When I realised I called them up, they'd found it and it was behind the bar for safekeeping. I picked it up the next day, nothing was missing and that's a fantastic testament to the staff and the people who drink in there.

Absolutely fantastic service. And what a beautiful place. The staff were very friendly and so helpful. I do suffer with an allergy and the manager couldn’t do enough to make sure I was safe while dining. Everything came out hot and was so tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We will be returning regularly

Cosy atmospheric pub and good food and drink

Booked for New Years day for 3 people. Arrived for 2.30pm. Got seated ordered 3 soft drinks. Got told no grill service, so no steaks. No kebabs and no fish and chips. Pretty poor effort for an establishment offering New Years day service. Then got told the lunch menu was nit available and to be honest what was left on the menu was less appealing to us. Waited 10 minute's for our drinks and then the next table ordered drinks. 5 min later their drinks were served. Felt that we were invisible and decided that there was total disrespect for us. So we decided to leave. Not one challenge when leaving. They were not exactly busy, which was no surprise. Needless to say we will.not be returning. If you can't provide a service you should not offer it, despite what day it is!

Good honest pub grub reasonably priced washed down with a good selection of beers. Relaxed atmosphere where you can go casual or dress up.

Wonderful Christmas Day. First experience of eating out on Christmas Day. Absolutely recommend this establishment. Food was fantastic and plenty of it, ambience lovely, staff were efficient and attentive and friendly. we had a very relaxed Christmas Day with no preparation, cooking or washing up, would definitely return. Thank you for helping us get through a tough day (after loosing my sister this year). Really appreciate all the hard working staff giving up their time on Christmas Day to make ours such an enjoyable day.

Unfortunately service was very poor as quite clearly lack of staff. Big parties in ballroom and pub. Meal was sub standard to normal.

Popped in for a beer before the next bus. We were greeted with a slightly busy, but cosy pub. I didn't get the name of the lad with the neck tats, or the lass with split-dye hair (which looked fab by the way) but they were both nice! Good couple of ales on, and a well poured Guinness!

Just had a lovely kebab with a gorgeous flatbread at the Duke Of Wellington. Gotta say it’s the best I’ve had. Lovely atmosphere and the staff are so nice and welcoming.

No way that I’m spending money in a business that promotes that oaf! A response to the owners reply. Thanks for the offer of a free pint but no, sorry, I have principles. You promote Clarkson and I’ll drink elsewhere.

Superb lunch and great service.

We have been to the duke for a few drinks, a birthday meal and a date night. Each time we go my wife and I have a great time Kevin and the staff are accommodating, and the food is great.

Lovely sections to choose seating, appreciated the waitress warning us to expect a delay on food. Returned a little later therefore. Ordering at the bar was slow but food came in an acceptable time, piping hot and delicious. Would recommend.

The staff were attentive and the food was delicious. The refurb looks great, there was a relaxed atmosphere and we had a lovely time.

Myself, family and friends visited for a birthday meal. The food was amazing, and the team went above and beyond to make us very welcome. We were also showed there amazing banquet hall for functions! We will definitely be back

Fish & Chips gorgeous. Service good and friendly. Drinks extortionate, 250ml Savignon £11.25. What a pity, I am reluctant to go back.

We popped in here for some food as a group. The venue has a fantastic ambiance, and felt really pleasant. The service was really quick as was the food ordered. I had the burger which was fantastic and good value for money. Only one downside. A colleague was informed that a particular soup was on, only for a completely different soup to be brought out because the original had sold out. It would have been good to have the opportunity to ask the customer if they want the change and if for some reason it couldn’t be communicated then a little system to address this would be helpful. There was an immediate opportunity to take it back to the kitchen but we were in a relative rush. All in all a really nice experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting (though I’d consider some of the pictures in the bathroom to be a bit off taste (but maybe I’m just becoming sensitive as I get older)).

Recently moved to the area with my family and so happy to find such a cosy family friendly local. The staff were polite and attentive and the prices weren’t bad at all for the quality of the food!

Here's a glowing review for that pub meal. Had an absolutely delightful meal at lunchtime! The atmosphere was cosy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxing meal. The staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a great meal and a wonderful evening out. Christmas lunch for our family. The pub was understandably busy for Christmas Day. The maitre d' was keeping an eye on things, the young blonde man wearing a Christmas hat and serving us was delightful, the dark haired chap served with a side of compere good humour, the older guy wearing a Christmas jumper was jolly, the blonde waitress in black, Hannah, was sullen, bordering on rude, and slamming down items. The food was great, all three courses, the ambience excellent, overall super, thanks. We'd come again!

Lovely place! Plenty of options for sitting arrangements. Only negative was the Brownie Sundae was served with orange chocolate ice cream rather than normal chocolate as it's noted on the menu but it didn't damper the evening

A reasonable selection of plant-based food and reasonable prices. Good service, nice venue. I had the sweet potato & chickpea curry which was very tasty. I’m watching the old endothelium so didn’t have a dessert (although vegan option looked very good)! I requested coffee with oat milk prior to the meal but was told that they didn’t have any plant-based milk so I couldn’t have any. I had a cold drink instead. On paying I mentioned to the manager(?) that the meal was lovely but I would have liked a cup of oat or soya milk coffee with it. He said they don’t keep any on site as there’s not enough demand but he would have got me some oat milk from the local shop if he’d known. I hadn’t been there for a meal before. Was I supposed to have insisted to the waiter that they get me oat milk? Come on restaurant owners, have a bit of sense, if you’re offering vegan meals then offer plant-based coffee at the outset. I would have given it 4 stars instead of 3 if I'd had my coffee!

Went for Sunday lunch today, the welcome, the food and the most wonderful waitress Michelle who totally made our afternoon, will definitely be back.
