The indoor children's play area was awful. Went as soon as they opened......so you would think it had been cleaned. Dried up baked beans and peas on the floor in various places among the seating area. Sugar wrappers on floor. One of my children almost ate a peanut that they picked up from the floor. The netting that prevents children from falling off the climbing equipment was torn, patched up and in some places very very dangerous. Sticky tables, chairs and highchairs. Toilet area hadn't been cleaned either with toilet tissue all over the floor, plug holes blocked with tissue, dirty tissue all around the sink area. Put me off eating there! with a lovely large area for children to play but totally neglected. Such a shame.

We had the pleasure of staying in the The Three Horseshoes over this weekend, honestly we loved it! Can't wait to go back. Lovely sized room (four people) absolutely spotless, good sized bathroom and beds!! Plenty of towels, we did ask for more which were provided straight away no fuss at all. The WiFi was a bit spotty but it didn't bother me but appreciate others may not be happy. Staff were really lovely and the breakfasts (included in the room price) were brilliant, scrambled eggs, were the best I've ever had! We also had lunch and two dinners in the pub, trust me the food was really really nice, the puddings heavenly!! The only negative for me was no lock on the bathroom door. Neither were their locks in the downstairs loo's in the pub! Could do with a 'please knock' sign :-) They have an inside soft play area good for kids up to at least 12 and an outdoor play area, the kids thought it was the best place ever!!!!! Absolutely lovely weekend shame we couldn't thank the owners as they had gone to an event. Would definitely go back and would highly recommend.

The Three Horseshoes in Dinas Powys is a family run PUB with no kitchen to serve food. The reviews listed here are confusing it with a 3U's pub at Moulton near Barry. This is clear from a menu in one of the photographs of a table of food. VISITORS TO THIS THREE HORSESHOES should not expect food, good or bad.

Not sure why this place has gained so many negative reviews. We stopped here midway through a long drive and were really happy we did. The barmaid was lovely, as were our drinks, and it was cheap compared to a lot of other places. The pub itself was spacious, clean and comfy with lots of parking and outdoor seating. I don't know where the previous reviewers went , but it wasn't The Three Horseshoes in Dinas Powys. This pub is NOT a restaurant, and hasn't served meals for years.....It is purely an Ale House, and has been for to my knowledge for 50 odd years.....They probably went to the Cross Keys, which is immediately next door ...Enough said about that.I would suggest your so called "reviewers" get their facts right, and look at the signs above the door before commenting. As an aside there is no Specsavers in Dinas Powys , mores the pity, as by the sounds of things, they could have made a couple of bob.

Went here because of the reviews and report in the Echo regarding the food and pub. Sorry in all honesty we found nothing to shout about . After standing at the bar and the gentleman behind not even inquiring why were there or could he help. Another group come in and went and stood just in front of us and a lady appeared and took them to their seats we then shuffled a few feet over and caught her eye and asked to be seated. All but one ordered the Sunday lunch and drinks order taken no problem at all and the service was good not many in at this point . Sunday dinner turned up lamb and beef were the mains and a curry for another in the group. The mint sauce and mango were put on the table before the meal but no gravy boat. Went to ask for the gravy boat but dinners turned up and swimming in gravy would be putting it mildly. Please why do some establishment drowned a meal in gravy . The paying guest should be putting this on as with the mint sauce etc and you should not have to send back your dish for that reason take note landlord / Chef. The dinner was nothing to raise the roof but Sunday roasts do vary from establishments. The veg frozen peas and a possible fresh parsnip well over done, the carrots were okay and roasties passable . Meat very thinly cut both beef and lamb and swimming in gravy. Put it this way could not see the lamb due to the gravy. Curry the rice was soggy but every thing else okay. The service we found good but noticed they were struggling as it started to fill up and a lady by us seemed to be ignored for to much time. Customers are there for a reason and their time is precious I hate seeing service pass customers whom are to polite to call out it should not happen. My advice buy gravy boats be more friendly every member of staff a hello costs nothing but goes along way . And quality not quantity does count when you charge £9+ for a meal we do expect today.Overall I would not go back again as there are plenty to choose from, the kiddies play area is the pull and bushiness must stem from that alot.

Like other recent reviewers I cannot understand how this establishment recently won an award for the best pub food in the Vale of Glamorgan. The whole atmosphere seems unwelcoming and the bar staff are particularly surly offering a very limited range of overpriced and nondescript beers. Ever the optimist I've eaten there on a couple of occasions. Firstly a Sunday lunch with a group of six. To be fair we were served quickly but the meat was thinly cut, dry and unappetising. On a second occasion on a weekday night I popped in for a quick refuel. The pork steak with sauce had evidently been precooked and then partly heated up and was most unpleasant in flavour and texture. The play barn is grimy and run by grumpy staff. The only good feature is the outside beer garden and play area which my children love and is the only reason I go near the place. If you like “out of the freezer into the fryer” catering then it is acceptable but I remain mystified as to how it acquired the recent award. Unfortunately the address given on TA is for a similarly named establishment in Dinas Powys – the reviews however quite obviously relate to The Three Horseshoes in Moulton. Perhaps TA staff can correct this.?

Visited for Sunday lunch with the family. The place isn't quite sure what it wants to be...motel, country pub, soft play...First impressions, this place looks very unfinished and because of that wasn't a comfortable place. Poor choice of bar drinks. The menu was old-fashioned and very limited. Only one vegetarian option. Sunday roast was beef, lamb or chicken. We ordered beef and lamb. Poor quality and badly cooked thinly sliced meat, horrible new potatoes, soggy roast potato, thin gravy tasting of granules, baby carrots and peas, cabbage much hotter than rest of the food. I think they charged about £9 for this. Kids had sausage, beans and chips - standard. Desert was bought in (defrosted?) brownie...more sponge than brownie. Plus point, staff were friendly enough and quite attentive. Kids enjoyed the soft play area. The place was quite busy, I'm guessing it's because of the play area. If you want good food then you're spoilt for choice in this area, I wouldn't recommend this place.

Deep in the Vale of Glamorgan this is a place you will want to return to.The owners have also built a good reputation for the mobile catering arm of the business called the Fourth Horseshoe caterers. Not the cheapest pub/restaurant but you get what you pay for, good food and good beer. They sell their own label beers as well as a good selection of beers and wines and the food is cooked to order with the sweets particularly appealing, you can also buy some lovely home cooked bread to take with you. For the young kids there is a fantastic indoor play area and for dry days an outside play area

I came to know about this place after seeing it on the internet and after visiting I thought the place was good for a young family, but a bit tatty in places. The positives about the place were the indoor play barn and the outside play areas; my children (3 and 6 years old) loved the place, and can't wait to go back. As the weather was sunny and dry, the children really enjoyed playing outside and there were plenty of wooden picnic tables scattered around for the parents to have food and drink whilst keeping a close eye on the children. The negatives we found were that the area for eating, by the indoor play barn was small (around 5 tables) and if busy I can imagine this would fill up quickly. The chairs we ended up using to eat from were old, tatty sofas that were very uncomfortable to eat from. However, the most important thing for us is that our children enjoy themselves and they did: if our children are happy, then we are happy.I would suggest you visit this website address: http://www.3horseshoespub.com/ for pics and more info.

Visited this place on the recommendation of a friend. Took my partner and the three children we have between us. The big draw for us was the play barn. Well all i can say is what a bitter and very expensive disappointment. When we walked through the door we were hit by the overwhelming stench of dog. I have owned dogs all my life so im not particully sensitive to the smell but this was definatley stomach turning. When we eventually found our way into the play barn, which we had to locate ourselves after being ignored by the bar staff in the main pub area (they weren't busy as we were the only people there). We were greeted by what looked to be a reasonable play frame but no more than four or five places for groups of people to sit. If the children had not seen the play frame we would have walked straight out again because of the smell but we reluctantly agreed to stay. The seating in the barn was old and broken & it was clearly an after thought when the barn was built. We ended up sitting upstairs because all the tables were full. A bit of advice, never go up there!!!! Its dark, dusty and the furniture was even worse. We managed to finally get chairs downstairs but our table was blocking a fire exit & my chair was on a significant slope. The place was very dirty with bits of old food on the floor and the dust was thick on most surfaces. You could tell that the boy who was serving behind the counter was not happy in his job. Having never visited there before, we were unsure of how the place worked, if we could eat in the barn etc, every question we asked was met with rolling eyes and short and snappy answers. We ordered our food, the kids had the eat & play deal which seemed reasonable, then we discovered they were charging £1.30 for a panda pop, bloody Scandalus!!!! I had the steak pie which was the worse thing i have ever eaten! It was burnt, stale and disgusting, im not even going to re-live the peas. When the unhappy young man came to clear our table i told him that it was the worst meal that i had ever had but he really didn't care. My partner had the prawns cocktail to start which in all fairness was ok but his main was another horror show with free hairs on the side. The kids meals were tiny & what seemed like a bargain, was actually false economy because they were all hungry soon after, lets just say we didn't stay for desserts! The meal, drinks and play came to over £40, for what we had, that price was ridiculous. Every time one of the kids needed the toilet we had to endure the foul odor of dog so we tried to keep visits to a minimum. I can honestly say that this place was horrid from start to finish and i could not recommend it to anyone. With a bit of investment, a good clean, new furniture and some form of odor control, im sure that this could be a nice family pub but currently, its the worst!!!! On a positive note, the kids thought that the play frame was ok & the bits of the outdoor play area which weren't either broken or blocked by safey tape were quite good.

We've visited the Three Horseshoes many times over the last 20 years, but we've been disappointed in its constant decline. Our last visit was the last straw, and we won't be visiting again.I ordered food, and due to the fact we were sitting in the pods outside, I was asked to pay before the meal. As I mentioned above, we are regular visitors here, and this just feels like they don't trust us.The meal we had, chicken vindaloo, beef dupiaza, gammon and chicken nuggets was very average, and made worse when a party of kids with 4 adults sat around us, disturbing our quite family night out.The waitress serving us dropped some chips while placing our meals, but didn't offer to replace them. We were never asked during or after the meal, if we were enjoying the meal. My wife was very unimpressed with the beef dupiaza. The general atmosphere of the place was dreadful, with my 13 year old daughter (and indeed, my wife) asking when can we leave! I certainly won't be visiting here again, at least for a few years, to see it it improves.

We visited The Three Horseshoes situated in Moulton near Barry, just after the turning for Amelia Trust Farm in the Five mile lane. We were a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 under 6's. It was a Friday afternoon, after school and we wanted to treat our daughter who's birthday it was. Its a lovely friendly well kept place, and upon arrival we went straight into the Jolly Barn which is a lovely indoor play area, where parents can relax on nice comfy leather settees, whilst the children play. We chose the play and eat deal, which for 5.75 includes unlimited play and a meal from the childrens menu. Our niece and daughter chose the chicken nuggets, whilst our son chose the pasta. I must say the childrens menu is fab, with all the usuals plus also chicken curry, roast dinner and pasta, for those who prefer something different to something with chips. For drinks we bought a very handy jug of squash, which helped keep costs down! Myself and my partner opted for the house chicken curry served with rice and chips, this was delicious hot and homemade and a good portion. Couldn't fault it at all, also some lovely dishes were offered on the specials menu:)which we intend to try on our next visit. My partner has a sweet tooth and seeing all the delightful looking puddings on display he chose a black cherry cheesecake and cream, it was a lovely portion and tasted homemade and absolutely divine! After the children purchased some sweets from the little tuck shop in the Jolly Barn we took our drinks and moved outside as it was a pleasant evening, and the children really enjoyed playing in the excellent well maintained castle and park. A lovely visit enjoyed by all, would highly recommend this hidden gem and looking forward to our next visit:)

This review is for the Three Horseshoes in Moulton near Barry.I am posting this review on behalf of two adults and a very switched on six year old boy.Our day started with the question where would you like to go? and the answer was somewere i haven't been before. After driving from Bristol zoo back to Barry we had to let our six year old nephew blow off some steam and give him some lunch, so after a short debate on where shall we take him to? the Three horse shoes sprang to mind straight away. This was the second place of the day that he had never been to after the zoo.Upon arrival he spotted the outside play area which impressed him quite a lot then we entered the pub and he spotted the indoor play area, then we knew we were on to a winner when he remarked this place is cool. Then into the bar and restaurant for some lunch, we chose a table and sat down and were pretty quickly brought two types of menus to choose from and our drink orders were taken. We browsed the menus and chose an old classic chicken korma with half and half for the adults and an old favourite of all six year olds chicken nuggets and chips. The drinks were brought to us very swiftly and we chatted whilst our meal was being freshly cooked, our food was brought to us with in a reasonable time and was piping hot, we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and our nephew said they were the best chicken nuggets ever. (we are on to a winner). Then after a short rest he was itching to go to the outside and play. Our visit only lasted just over one hour but was very enjoyable one, all of the staff that we delt with were very polite and made us feel very welcome. The tree horse shoes seems to cater for everyone from sole diners to family groups and if you have children that need to blow a bit of steam off then bring them here.We will return in the near future, thank you very much.
