We went here following glowing reviews on social media and here on trip advisor. Very disappointed with our lunch. You have to order at the bar and pay include the tip without the knowledge that they earned it! Our lunch which was from the small plate menu Lamb, and portion of chips. It took 40 minutes to arrive even after a reminder. others near us had theirs served before us even though we had arrived first. We sat on a table in the middle of the restaurant. We seemed to be isolated, window seats on larger tables were available but not to a 2. We quite often find this in some establishments but are usually offered a better table when requested. When we left 6 customers left. Oh dear, we shan't be back. By the way we find the shop also expensive. Other deli's offer more and better value.

This pub has been bought by the villagers. It’s is wonderful in so many ways. Cowbridge seems to be a black hole of decent food aside from the hare and hounds and maple and bean. This felt like a proper community pub in the 90s. The staff were all amazing. The food was amazing. There wasn’t a 400% markup on rubbish wine. The service as great. The atmosphere was lovely. Great starters of crab and squid were followed by perfectly cooked steak. The doughnuts with custard cream and strawberries were lovely. No rip off frozen food or “small plates” that nobody likes here. Go and support places like this. The rest of cowbridge eateries need to up their game.

I reserved some cakes , as we were going for a walk and were calling back later for coffee and cake for a birthday treat ! The staff are so accommodating here , especially the male today 7/7/23 as we were late back , when they closed at 4pm, after getting a bit lost enroute in the countryside. The staff member allowed us to have 2 coffees and the reserved cakes, after closing time, the coffees were excellent and the cakes too. We had the largest cinammon bun I have ever seen and the most scrumptious chocolate brownie ever, crunchie on the outside and sappy in the middle. Such excellent service deserves a big thank you ! Thoroughly recommended !!!

Booked for New Years day for 3 people. Arrived for 2.30pm. Got seated ordered 3 soft drinks. Got told no grill service, so no steaks. No kebabs and no fish and chips. Pretty poor effort for an establishment offering New Years day service. Then got told the lunch menu was nit available and to be honest what was left on the menu was less appealing to us. Waited 10 minute's for our drinks and then the next table ordered drinks. 5 min later their drinks were served. Felt that we were invisible and decided that there was total disrespect for us. So we decided to leave. Not one challenge when leaving. They were not exactly busy, which was no surprise. Needless to say we will.not be returning. If you can't provide a service you should not offer it, despite what day it is!

There were eleven of us eating all something different, and all was excellent. All meals served together and hot. Drinks all come first. Meals were taken off the breakfast menu and most had some omissions and extras. (Ordered easily). One item was missing form one plate and this was rectified without fuss. A very good experience and something we would do again.

Hospitality is a tough business these days but the Bush In at St Hilary is showing how to do it well. We went for a meal last week as a group of 4. The pub is very traditional with an open, inglenook fireplace in one part of the pub which we were lucky to sit at. Both owners made a point of coming to chat to us. The food was amazing. I had the pork belly to start with which was one of the nicest starters I have ever had. My main was equally delicious which was the fish and chips. It's sad when people leave poor reviews for these local country pubs. They have no idea how hard it is to run any business these days, let alone hospitality where getting quality staff who want to work is so hard. This pub does everything to make your experience memorable. Was it perfect- no, but this is a small, family run local pub, not a restaurant in a six star hotel and we all had a fantastic experience and are definitely going back again soon. Come on- let's support our local pubs and less with the public criticism!!!!!

Looking for a poorly cooked breakfast that is terrible value for money? Well look no further as this is the place to visit! Made with authentic value/essential/saver supermarket produce, the hash browns are lovingly made to be soggy and wet, accompanied with a generous tablespoon of succulent cold baked beans, skinny warm bread masquerading as toast and a rasher of the finest cheap bacon known to humanity (50% rind guaranteed!) complete the culinary annihilation. But that's not all.. PLUS, ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE.. lashings of egg shell, strategically placed within the breakfast, (subject to availability but do suspect this is indefinitely). Staff too busy on phones and chatting to one another to be concerned about any concerns, unless the concerns are what to wear or who to date on Saturday night, then the attention to detail is second to none. But seriously, a very, very poor experience and would definitely NOT recommend to anyone!!

Read some reviews which said it was expensive and small portions, decided to try for ourselves. Was fantastic, chips come in three different portion sizes, so don't complain if you go for a small one! The chips were very very tasty and I must say, I don't think the price was that bad. It's about average now, I paid £5.60 for cheesey chips, but that was the large portion and it filled me up. Staff were all nice too.

We have eaten at the Bear before but not Cellars. The young staff were faultless very attentive and welcoming. The food was the nicest we’ve had out in a long time. Delicious mutton suet pie also ham potato and pea pie along with very tasty chicken supreme. All the meals were actually hot, not something you often get when eating out. Toffee apple sponge pudding finished our meals off nicely. Will definitely be back.
