This pub has been bought by the villagers. It’s is wonderful in so many ways. Cowbridge seems to be a black hole of decent food aside from the hare and hounds and maple and bean. This felt like a proper community pub in the 90s. The staff were all amazing. The food was amazing. There wasn’t a 400% markup on rubbish wine. The service as great. The atmosphere was lovely. Great starters of crab and squid were followed by perfectly cooked steak. The doughnuts with custard cream and strawberries were lovely. No rip off frozen food or “small plates” that nobody likes here. Go and support places like this. The rest of cowbridge eateries need to up their game.

We went as a family of 6 for Sunday lunch. Service was good but unfortunately the beef Sunday lunch was terrible. After using 3 different steak knives I was still unable to cut through the beef. My husband’s beef was the same. I was eventually given pork as an alternative which was ok. I was shocked to see that our 2 daughter’s pork, that they had ordered for their Sunday lunch, was half the size of the pork that I was given as an alternative for the inedible beef. It seemed like their pork slices had been cut in half and shared between their 2 meals. Also the cauliflower cheese was mushy and tasteless and it seemed like it had been kept warm for hours. Although saying that none of our meals were very warm. Reading the good reviews we may have just been unlucky, however as I never complain, I just needed to write this review, as the meal was shocking and we were very disappointed. Needless to say I cannot recommend the Hare and Hounds and will definitely not eat there again.

We went here following glowing reviews on social media and here on trip advisor. Very disappointed with our lunch. You have to order at the bar and pay include the tip without the knowledge that they earned it! Our lunch which was from the small plate menu Lamb, and portion of chips. It took 40 minutes to arrive even after a reminder. others near us had theirs served before us even though we had arrived first. We sat on a table in the middle of the restaurant. We seemed to be isolated, window seats on larger tables were available but not to a 2. We quite often find this in some establishments but are usually offered a better table when requested. When we left 6 customers left. Oh dear, we shan't be back. By the way we find the shop also expensive. Other deli's offer more and better value.

Spent a morning at the Penny Farthing and what a pleasant morning it was. Breakfast was lovely; I can’t remember the last time I ordered a cooked breakfast and all elements came out piping hot! It was delicious. Staff were polite and helpful and the whole place had such a lovely relaxed vibe. We will definitely be back!

Would’ve given 4.5 if that was possible. The food was lovely. The staff were friendly. We didn’t want much of a starter, so ordered a portion of garlic bread to share between 3 of us as a starter. It was really lovely. Though it was on the menu named as bread with garlic butter, which made us think it would fresh bread with the garlic butter on the side. Maybe naming it this way rather than just saying garlic bread, makes the £8.50 price seem justified to them! But it was tasty. I had the Steak and Stilton pie which was really gorgeous. I couldn’t fault it. Another of us had the burger, again really tasty. The third has the fish and chips, again lovely. I hadn’t been to this pub for a few years, but it’s as cute as I remember. The staff were friendly and service good. It’s dog friendly which is lovely to see. It’s not cheap, but I guess you’re also paying for the surroundings. I would recommend a visit.

Looking for a poorly cooked breakfast that is terrible value for money? Well look no further as this is the place to visit! Made with authentic value/essential/saver supermarket produce, the hash browns are lovingly made to be soggy and wet, accompanied with a generous tablespoon of succulent cold baked beans, skinny warm bread masquerading as toast and a rasher of the finest cheap bacon known to humanity (50% rind guaranteed!) complete the culinary annihilation. But that's not all.. PLUS, ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE.. lashings of egg shell, strategically placed within the breakfast, (subject to availability but do suspect this is indefinitely). Staff too busy on phones and chatting to one another to be concerned about any concerns, unless the concerns are what to wear or who to date on Saturday night, then the attention to detail is second to none. But seriously, a very, very poor experience and would definitely NOT recommend to anyone!!

I reserved some cakes , as we were going for a walk and were calling back later for coffee and cake for a birthday treat ! The staff are so accommodating here , especially the male today 7/7/23 as we were late back , when they closed at 4pm, after getting a bit lost enroute in the countryside. The staff member allowed us to have 2 coffees and the reserved cakes, after closing time, the coffees were excellent and the cakes too. We had the largest cinammon bun I have ever seen and the most scrumptious chocolate brownie ever, crunchie on the outside and sappy in the middle. Such excellent service deserves a big thank you ! Thoroughly recommended !!!

We met with family from the USA, and had a great time with good food, great service in lovely surroundings. Our US loved it as it was what they wanted but hadn’t found on their trip so far.

Been there many times. Always lovely chips. Tonight they were awful! Hard and leathery, beans stone cold had to take back, I was offered to reheat but then chips would be too hot! What on earth has gone wrong with this place. Chips ended up in nearest bin, what a waste of money!! Won't be going back again
