Situated in a small business park, nestled in the South Downs, I visit this cafe several times a month. A very good menu, with a warm welcome, indoor and outdoor seating and pets welcome. Open weekdays until 2pm

Just had a fantastic Sunday roast. I had the beef and other members of the party had the pork. The portion sizes were generous. The meats were cooked to perfection. The crackling was crunchy and full of flavour. The beef was tender and delicious. The Yorkshire pudding£ing was light a fluffy and there was a good selection o& vegetables. One of the best roast dinners I’ve ever had.

Great food and company What a wonderful evening we spent at The Blue Ship on Saturday night. A truly local, warm and welcoming place. I’ve not been there in too long a time however I felt like I’d not left. The fire was lit and Sophie Bailey, Jackie and I chatted together like old friends while Simon Bailey served up the most delicious Brie wedges followed by the best burgers in Sussex. If you are a regular or not, we are so lucky to have such a great, traditional pub on our doorstep and I for one won’t leave it so long till my next visit. #localbusiness #countrypub — feeling welcome at Blue Ship.

We ate at Interlude for lunch. The menu is a total delight for the taste buds. It is difficult to single out individual courses as everything was delicious but if I had to it would be the poached oyster in a delicious buttery sauce and the rabbit course, which was like 4 scrumptious rabbit and carrot canapes. The menu has an occasional South African theme, reflecting the chef’s heritage as well as foraging which is woven into most of the dishes. We will be back for the slightly longer evening menu.

I wanted to share some feedback following a visit to the King’s Arms in Horsham last night—a venue I’ve enjoyed many times in the past for its great beer and welcoming atmosphere. On this occasion, however, I was served a pint of bitter that was clearly cloudy. Having worked in the licensed trade myself, I understand that this can happen from time to time. I raised the issue with the barmaid, who sought assistance from the manager. When the manager approached, she acknowledged that the pint was cloudy and explained that she had accidentally knocked the barrel in the cellar, which had disturbed the sediment. I suggested that in such a case, the beer should not be served until it has resettled, but she insisted it was “fine.” I disagreed and asked for the pint to be replaced, only to be told that I would need to pay for the replacement. I declined and chose to leave the pub. While I understand that things sometimes go wrong, I believe the key is in how such situations are handled. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the attitude and response were not in keeping with the high standards I associate with the King’s Arms. I felt it was important to let you know, as this is not what one expects from an establishment known for its quality real ales. Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I hope this feedback is helpful. Kind regards, Simon

Botanica is good, in fact its food quality is better than good with some outstanding cooking from a talented team of chefs. The atmosphere is casual, with a lovely outside area that overlooks the downs on nice days. The menu is thoughtful and broken down in to small plates and large plates and is dairy and nut free. Sadly, the menu lacked a good description of the overall concept. If they want to be bold and lead with a dairy and nut free menu that is designed to be sustainable with lower carbon emission, why not shout about it! To have no description or introduction on the menu was a little odd. The open kitchen produced exciting flavors and textures that were well balanced, with perfectly cooked vegetables, fish and meat. Wine, as expected was expensive and service is added to your final bill. The staff here were fairly well trained, although lacked some passion, enthusiasm and warmth. The restaurant is comfortable with well-spaced tables, but didn’t live up to its name Botanica. I expected a wall of growing herbs or some living plants, not the plastic pots that decorated this space. A big plus was the menu is well suited for anyone with allergies including the notorious gluten free, and there are plenty of choices on the menu. Our only gripe was a dish labelled “Day boat” fish on the menu was sadly not as described. The fish served was a Mediterranean farmed Sea bream aka Dorarde Royal, but the chef claimed it was locally caught day boat (meaning wild caught on a small fishing boat). As one of our party works in the fish industry, he was able to confidently identify the fish, which was sadly not day boat wild black bream that is caught in the UK waters. It would have also been nice to know where the lamb and chicken came from. No mention of Organic, free range or a local farm where the lamb came from, which is what one would expect from a restaurant that is all about local and sustainable, and where food miles and production are important. Never the less, this did not distract from the overall high quality of food served, whether it was day boat or not, the fish was bloody tasty and that’s what really mattered. We would certainly go again and overall enjoyed the experience. Ps. Be warned, we took at tiny cake in for a birthday celebration (not to eat) but they were reluctant to bring it out saying they could not handle it if it had dairy and candles were against their no open flames policy. However they did bring out a small plate to say Happy birthday.

Amazing pancakes in terms of taste, volume of food and freshness! So many blueberries! Excellent value and to get a giant mug of hot tea for £1.70, and in a clean mug, is going to be a win in anyone’s book! Very happy i popped in during my stay at the travelodge. Thanks!
