Great brevets steak lunch , one of the best steaks I have ever eaten. It was presented on a bed of spinach and a portion of potato lyonnaise. Well presented, promptly served but portions were a bit small. The steak was delicious but I personally felt a larger portion of potato lyonnaise would have made this a 10/10 . I left slightly hungry but thoroughly enjoyed this steak. Friends had a pottage of smoked haddock that they both loved.

Excellent location for our dawn safari at Knepp. A very comfortable little room with a great bed. Disappointing that check-in is at 3pm or after - exactly when the pub below closes for a few hours so you can't get a drink on arrival after a long journey. Would be good to be informed of that beforehand. Self check-in was fine for us. Would have liked a cooked breakfast - we decided against the continental hamper in the room - which was an extra cost as some had said it was insubstantial. Good coffee machine and choice of teas. Enjoyed having a few drinks in the lovely pub in the evening.

After four days of touring the splendid gardens and houses of eastern and central Sussex, we headed west towards Bath. Our first stop was The Crown Inn, in the tiny hamlet of Dial Post. We were looking to experience a stay at a true Inn with Pub attached (or vice-versa), and we got what we were looking for! An adorable roadside building with a solarium-fronted Pub/restaurant on the ground level and, around the back, exterior stairs up to guest rooms atop the Pub. Our room was very tidy, nicely/freshly decorated and, while not large, was very comfortable and space efficient with a nicely lit, contemporary bath/shower. Even though the room faced the road, the new, double-paned windows and heavy drapes eliminated any noises from passing vehicles. I’ll add that after dark, Dial Post does not see much traffic! Once settled, we went down to the “traditional” Pub which offered restaurant service in a dining room and the solarium. The food, service and offerings from the bar were all quite good. Like most Pubs, there appeared to be a contingent of “regulars”, which added to the charm. I will note that, because we arrived in mid-afternoon, the kitchen had stopped serving between lunch and dinner. Happily, the staff behind the bar directed us to a garden center, just-down-the-road, where we could get a bite to eat. The garden center was enormous, had a restaurant and a coffee shop and we could have spent hours there!

We booked the safari room for a birthday treat and had an excellent stay. The beds were super comfy, there were fluffy white towels and robes and a delicious breakfast presented beautifully in a breakfast hamper. We liked the thoughtful ways the owners try to reduce waste too. It was the perfect base for a visit to Knepp, we rolled out of bed and into our boots for a dawn chorus walk, only 5 mins to the gates.. Brilliant. We’ll definitely be back!

We were visiting Hurstpierpoint over Xmas accompanied by our 2 spaniels. We Googled pet friendly pubs near us. We emailed the Crown the morning of our visit seeking a table for lunch, receiving a quick response. We visited the Crown for our 1pm lunch reservation. It was very busy but we were warmly greeted as were the 3 dogs with us. We had great service and a freshly cooked delicious lunch. Visiting the area again end of January and will definitely return.

Lovely pub for lunch and a pint. Fish and chips was excellent and the local Longmans bitter (?) was a fantastic pint. Staff were very friendly and helpful and there is a small beer garden at the back and seating out front. Highly recomended.

Seven people, children and adults, all had the most lovely pub lunch at The Crown. What a find, never been before but will definitely be back. Welcoming staff, excellent service and good food, in The Garden Room, a lovely conservatory on the front. Need to back again to sit in the cosy chairs by the real fire next time

We were staying on the Knepp estate and this pub is on one of the recommended walks, so it was an obvious choice. The tteam had coped really well with re-opening, and despite the extra faff of booking on an app, they made it as 'normal' an experience as possible. A helpful and friendly server brought orders to us (we sat outside, though there was room indoors too). We ate well.

Botanica is good, in fact its food quality is better than good with some outstanding cooking from a talented team of chefs. The atmosphere is casual, with a lovely outside area that overlooks the downs on nice days. The menu is thoughtful and broken down in to small plates and large plates and is dairy and nut free. Sadly, the menu lacked a good description of the overall concept. If they want to be bold and lead with a dairy and nut free menu that is designed to be sustainable with lower carbon emission, why not shout about it! To have no description or introduction on the menu was a little odd. The open kitchen produced exciting flavors and textures that were well balanced, with perfectly cooked vegetables, fish and meat. Wine, as expected was expensive and service is added to your final bill. The staff here were fairly well trained, although lacked some passion, enthusiasm and warmth. The restaurant is comfortable with well-spaced tables, but didn’t live up to its name Botanica. I expected a wall of growing herbs or some living plants, not the plastic pots that decorated this space. A big plus was the menu is well suited for anyone with allergies including the notorious gluten free, and there are plenty of choices on the menu. Our only gripe was a dish labelled “Day boat” fish on the menu was sadly not as described. The fish served was a Mediterranean farmed Sea bream aka Dorarde Royal, but the chef claimed it was locally caught day boat (meaning wild caught on a small fishing boat). As one of our party works in the fish industry, he was able to confidently identify the fish, which was sadly not day boat wild black bream that is caught in the UK waters. It would have also been nice to know where the lamb and chicken came from. No mention of Organic, free range or a local farm where the lamb came from, which is what one would expect from a restaurant that is all about local and sustainable, and where food miles and production are important. Never the less, this did not distract from the overall high quality of food served, whether it was day boat or not, the fish was bloody tasty and that’s what really mattered. We would certainly go again and overall enjoyed the experience. Ps. Be warned, we took at tiny cake in for a birthday celebration (not to eat) but they were reluctant to bring it out saying they could not handle it if it had dairy and candles were against their no open flames policy. However they did bring out a small plate to say Happy birthday.

What an amazing experience - stunning food in lovely surroundings with such a friendly team! Love the sustainability ethos and learning more about each ingredient, along with the merging of various styles to create some truly brilliant dishes. Loved having the chefs come out to introduce us to dishes, and giving their own stories about what the dishes mean to them. Overall service was out of this world - we were so well looked after!

Free entry to explore the marvellous gardens at Leonardslee when booking the Ultimate experience. A thorough wine tasting, brilliantly conducted by 'Simba', a true credit to his profession as a sommelier. Fabulous wines and that Sabre moment when the cork is 'popped', my friend did this with such distinction. An excellent, delicious Afternoon Tea followed, nothing waste much of a problem, photo opportunity, carrot cake a welcome extra but 'Simba' created the icing on the cake. Fantastic experience.
