My friend and I called in here whilst shopping round town, had a coffee and a slice of one of their cakes which was delicious, the portions are also very big! Really cute cafe overlooking the park.

Met a friend for lunch and haven’t been here for a little catch up like you do Homemade soup on a miserable day sounded lovely Erm…definitely not homemade in any way Marks & Spencer must be making a huge profit of this little cafe Please don’t put homemade when it definitely is not!!!!!!!

What a lovely location with great service. With such great looking cakes, it was a challenge to decide but we settled on the delicious homity pie followed by our first mince pies of 2023. Well worth a visit and the shop is an added bonus.

We go to Matlock a lot living nearby and always stop here for a coffee. Literally the best coffee shop in the area. The cakes are great too!

Whilst on holiday in Matlock, I wanted to support a local business and what a beautiful little place it is! Beautifully decorated and lovely staff who were very friendly and welcoming!! I sat outside under the fairy lights and felt very relaxed ☺️ I had coffee and tea cakes, plus purchased some homemade cakes to take back and they were delicious!!!! It was so good I went back two days later and had the same experience 😀 Would highly recommend!!! Oh, and the second time I took my puppy too!!! Even better 🐶😋🫖☕️🍰 Thank you 💓

This is a little cafe tucked in overlooking the park down an alleyway. We had to sit outside as we had the dog with us. It is only a small cafe with a couple of tables in a corner outside. The view was pretty and the space has been decorated with flowers but it is a little cramped and the table was wobbly. The food was fine and a reasonable price although the staff were not overly friendly.

Firstly... The cafe is beautiful.. such lovely decor, I visited today with my daughter, I am a anxious person and walking in was a bit daunting with it being a little cafe everyone turned round to look at us, I feel like some light back ground music would be great. Everyone could here our conversation and I found myself telling my daughter to shhhh as I didn't want to annoy other customers with her chatting away (she's only 3) and everyone could hear what I ordered from the till point and also we could hear the staffs conversations. We had lunch and it was brilliant. Such big portions and really tasty. This is by no means a bad review just a bit of feedback. The milkshakes are really big and delicious! Will defiantly be back when I'm having an less anxious day 🥺

Went with my mum and my 2 kids. We shared a jacket potato with veg chilli which my 2 year old loved and a couple of baguettes. Delicious cake and coffee too. Beautiful decor and the views out over the park where we walked off the cake afterwards.

Popped in for a flat white and it was soooo good I had another. Lovely views over the park from our inside window seat and they also had a few tables outside. Staff are very friendly and everywhere is very nicely decorated. This was not only the cheapest coffee shop I visited during my stay in Matlock but the best by a mile :)

After a hard mornings shopping we wanted to sit down and enjoy a drink with a view so here we found just that. Located on the side of a small park, it's the ideal place to sit over coffee and cake and relax. Go on, it's your turn.

Delightful little cafe just off the Main Street overlooking the park. All usual COVID precautions. Tasty tuna baguette and cheese baked potato with gorgeous chocolate milkshakes. Only negative was too much salad for a lite lunch! Many other diners also left much of the salad so you could cut down on that!

We now use this little cafe overlooking the park when we visit Matlock. Very nice owner, lovely decor and nice views over the park. Always happy to use small local cafes, especially as the owner took overcast before lockdown.

What an amazing experience - stunning food in lovely surroundings with such a friendly team! Love the sustainability ethos and learning more about each ingredient, along with the merging of various styles to create some truly brilliant dishes. Loved having the chefs come out to introduce us to dishes, and giving their own stories about what the dishes mean to them. Overall service was out of this world - we were so well looked after!

Free entry to explore the marvellous gardens at Leonardslee when booking the Ultimate experience. A thorough wine tasting, brilliantly conducted by 'Simba', a true credit to his profession as a sommelier. Fabulous wines and that Sabre moment when the cork is 'popped', my friend did this with such distinction. An excellent, delicious Afternoon Tea followed, nothing waste much of a problem, photo opportunity, carrot cake a welcome extra but 'Simba' created the icing on the cake. Fantastic experience.

Botanica is good, in fact its food quality is better than good with some outstanding cooking from a talented team of chefs. The atmosphere is casual, with a lovely outside area that overlooks the downs on nice days. The menu is thoughtful and broken down in to small plates and large plates and is dairy and nut free. Sadly, the menu lacked a good description of the overall concept. If they want to be bold and lead with a dairy and nut free menu that is designed to be sustainable with lower carbon emission, why not shout about it! To have no description or introduction on the menu was a little odd. The open kitchen produced exciting flavors and textures that were well balanced, with perfectly cooked vegetables, fish and meat. Wine, as expected was expensive and service is added to your final bill. The staff here were fairly well trained, although lacked some passion, enthusiasm and warmth. The restaurant is comfortable with well-spaced tables, but didn’t live up to its name Botanica. I expected a wall of growing herbs or some living plants, not the plastic pots that decorated this space. A big plus was the menu is well suited for anyone with allergies including the notorious gluten free, and there are plenty of choices on the menu. Our only gripe was a dish labelled “Day boat” fish on the menu was sadly not as described. The fish served was a Mediterranean farmed Sea bream aka Dorarde Royal, but the chef claimed it was locally caught day boat (meaning wild caught on a small fishing boat). As one of our party works in the fish industry, he was able to confidently identify the fish, which was sadly not day boat wild black bream that is caught in the UK waters. It would have also been nice to know where the lamb and chicken came from. No mention of Organic, free range or a local farm where the lamb came from, which is what one would expect from a restaurant that is all about local and sustainable, and where food miles and production are important. Never the less, this did not distract from the overall high quality of food served, whether it was day boat or not, the fish was bloody tasty and that’s what really mattered. We would certainly go again and overall enjoyed the experience. Ps. Be warned, we took at tiny cake in for a birthday celebration (not to eat) but they were reluctant to bring it out saying they could not handle it if it had dairy and candles were against their no open flames policy. However they did bring out a small plate to say Happy birthday.
