The best restaurants serving British food in Windermere Applethwaite and Troutbeck South Lakeland North West

Wow. Forget the Ritz or anything you think is fancy in London - Cedar Manor blows it all out of the park! An incredible experience, premium feel and personal service from the moment we arrived and were greeted by the owner. Afternoon tea is served in either the lounge or dining room - we were sat at a small (would be romantic for couples!!) table in the lounge and provided the current menu (a festive afternoon tea as nearing Christmas). An amazing array of teas to smell at first and select our chosen blend (Could change to try multiple ones during your experience) - followed by an interesting soup amuse bouche (wow), a mini Christmas "roast" inspired starter, an amazing and tasty selection of mini sandwiches and to finish, of course a huge array of little tarts, cakes and the warmest, tastiest scones. An incredible taste sensation for the mouth, an intimate and romantic (but also super for larger groups and celebrations) setting and overall, the most unforgettable experience. Can't wait to return here soon - you MUST try this.

Fantastic! I’m a regular visitor to this shop and I’ve never bought anything that hasn’t been perfect. From the “Cumberland curl”, a variety of marinated chicken breasts, lamb joints, bacon (including treacle and breakfast), a variety of different pies, “chilli growlers”, marinated lamb shanks and so the list goes on. Absolutely first class. I’ve been nudged into writing this review after my husband tried their new spicy lamb pie. He said it was “excellent” with “great spices”. All this with such friendly, professional, informative service. All I can say is if you’re in Windermere don’t miss a visit.

We had a gorgeous meal in Oaks restaurant. A 3 course feast that started with Coquilles St Jacques (a wonderful mixture of scallops and potato) main was perfectly cooked lamb and, to finish, Creme Brûlée. My fellow dinner guests all had something different but every plate was clear and a lot of contented nodding was going on. Bravo!

Staying locally and last day treat a fab cooked breakfast. Cooked fresh, lovely service and atmosphere. Would recommend a visit. Thanks.

We booked in and had a New Year’s Eve / wedding meal, at The Lamplighter Dining rooms . Communication and the meal itself was outstanding. They decorated the table for us with petals and provided a complimentary glass of Prosecco to make our evening special . The food and service was outstanding- ! small criticism , was that it was a dreadful evening, weather wise , yet there was no where to put coats or any one on hand immediately to take them and umbrellas. None the less , I would highly recommend James and his team and please send on our compliments to the chef.

We are regulars here. You can’t get a better breakfast or brunch for miles. There’s always a queue - be prepared to wait, but it’s definitely worth it!

Another great visit this cafe before a couple of days relaxing in the lakes. Good and varied menu with friendly helpful staff. Enjoyed the delicious cheese and chive scones with hot drinks.

A simply wonderful meal with exemplary service. I don’t usually do three courses, however, I made an exception at this restaurant, and I am so glad I did. Each course was presented beautifully and tasted amazing - fabulous value for such fabulous food!

Came here for Sunday Lunch, really great service, incredible food, can’t rate the place highly enough. Would definitely return.

Oh my word! This place needs six stars. Great food Great views Great price Great portion sizes Great friendly and quick service. We sat outside for lunch overlooking the lake and surrounding hills. The staff accommodated to our specific order. A lovely garden and lots of things to do nearby. Will come back! Just incredible.

Just spent a lovely time enjoying afternoon tea here for my birthday treat. Looked after wonderfully by Mathew who was professional but very welcoming and friendly. Delicious mixture of sweet and savoury treats, plus lovely glasses of fizz. Far too much food to finish, however offered boxes to pack the cakes in to enjoy at home. Can’t wait to visit again.

As a regular here for coffee/cake and breakfast, and always impressed, I took my Mum here for dinner. Wonderful service as usual, super pleasant staff, and the food was fabulous. I opted for the homemade chicken pie, which as I told the staff, was literally the best chicken pie I have ever had. 11/10. Definitely be returning for more dinners, as well as everything else. The food is okay but poor if you consider the price. The staff are nice but have no idea what they are doing. The atmosphere is terrible. Eat somewhere else.

We just arrive for a holiday and this is the first place we went to and we weren’t disappointed Beautiful golden tasty chips and fresh fish! Was so good we are going to try and squeeze another visit before we head home in a few days
