The best restaurants serving British food in Ambleside and Grasmere South Lakeland North West

Friendly staff and food good value. I has chicken curry and hubby steak pie. Curry was nice but chicken was a little tough. Steak pie was excellent though.

Amazing stay, from the front desk to the door men Mohammad. Wonderful, breakfast included with our stay was great. Indoor and outdoor rooftop pool. Wonderful. Loved it.

Wonderful food, friendly attentive service and dog friendly to boot! The Sunday Roast was incredible and the fish cake starter was one of the best fish cakes I’ve had

Stunning, friendly and perfectly positioned. We stayed here in the oak room, beautifully decorated, perfectly clean, stunning views. Great for dogs, as straight out onto the veranda. Great breakfast and staff couldn’t do enough to help. Thank you for a wonderful stay, didn’t want to leave and will be back soon x

Hiked Helm Crag, stopped in for a pint and a snack. Great food menu and good lineup of beers and drinks. Plenty of places to sit inside and out. Beautiful old traditional pub feel. Food delivered very swiftly, my food great, partners was ok. No one checked on us to see if we needed help, assistance or more food or drinks.

Very tired and in need of complete renovation and it shouldnt have been advertised as a four star hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful working under poor conditions. Breakfast choice poor unless you like eggs and the vegetarian full English was dry and obviously been kept under a heat lamp. Definitely not 4 star and I understand the day after we left the hotel was closed for renovation.

We dined at the restaurant. Every course was delicious and the service friendly and attentive. Recommended!

Didn’t bring our food, then one staff member accused of us lying, only for us to be proven right. Luckily some of the others were reasonable and apologised.

Lovely place. Food was excellent and service very speedy. Definitely worth a visit. Will certainly be going back again.

I visited this place several years ago and found it to be fairly reasonable in terms of cost and food-quality. I visited again yesterday and my experience was not good. The prices are enormously high and the meal I ordered was of very poor quality. The kitchen staff were clearly not very interested in supplying a hot and well-presented meal, which was sloppily served and cold (no, it wasn't a salad). I would advise future customers to visit the ODG nearby, where the food is reasonably-priced and of a high standard. I shan't visit the Slanty Slee's again. Disappointing.

Just a quick visit on a Saturday night for a few beers but the place was buzzing due to a match being screened. Drink and service was very good and it makes a good alternative option to the other Ambleside bars x

Superb food and excellent serice from Tom this evening. All the food was delicious, especially the braised belly pork. Highly recommend.

Am I asking too much to have my main hot meal of the day served on a hot plate, I dislike having to rush my eating experience as my food cools overly quickly.

Excellent suroundings for a coffee stop while walking the area. Great choice of eats and drinks, and very pleasant service. Highly recommended.
