Excellent hosts and a lovely friendly atmosphere. We always get a lovely welcome here! The White Lion is a very old traditional inn, that has been modernised but still retains its charm. We last visited on a Sunday evening and enjoyed a live acoustic music event which is held there each month. The pub provided supper for the musicians, which on this occasion was delicious pizzas. We found the hosts to be welcoming, friendly and generous. Would highly recommend.

We used to eat here regularly and enjoyed the food, but since the refurbishment it has gone down hill, been a few times thinking it must improve following feed back but alas not. So many staff, with just a few running round and manage a smile, the rest, including who I think is a supervisor, look to be there under duress, and making very little effort. The supervisor not in uniform with jeans and a shirt, looked like he’d just rolled out of bed. The menu looks fine, the prices have gone up and for what you pay it just doesn’t hit the mark. Over our few visits - one visit asked for water twice, in the end I went and got it myself. Soup was a small portion that was Luke warm with a small dry roll, never asked if wanted white or brown, fish fingers - greasy and no lemon, the cheese & onion pie on the menu is strange mashed concoction with a semi cooked puff pastry lid - added separately. If you have it off the pie menu, it cost more, although a proper individual pie at £16 with either mash or chips, there’s no veg or beans, the gravy never appeared and is average. I’m sorry to say they’ve lost our business.

We attended a special Fish Night and were certainly not disappointed. The chef is renowned for stunning sauces and once again he did not disappoint. The organic salmon with English Wasabi, buttermilk and dill was stunning as was the Red Mullet with Ratatouille beurre blanc. The bouillbaise with the John dory was memorable. A truly memorable evening of superb food served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. It is little wonder that this restaurant has just retained its MIchelin Star for a 7th time.

The price has gone up and size of the meals gone down. Will be now going to Philips lane chippy instead as it's better value.

Came here today as a sister date, when we arrived we wasn’t greeted very well and it didn’t seem organised for new comers we didn’t know which way we was going to sit and eat and had to ask 3 different members of staff, we ordered a bottle of wine with a pint of lemonade to share which was £32.50 we then sat down and was immediately approached to ask what we wanted we’d literally just sat down we asked for a few minutes and then was approached again, we both ordered the fillet steak off the menu (nobody thought to tell us that the special was the same but £17 instead of £31.50 plus £2.50 as sauce isn’t included in the meal) whilst half way through ordering the waitress actually asked me to write my own order down (not sure if this was a language barrier as she didn’t sound English) I wrote out out for her she then questioned me on why I wanted 2 different sauces with my steak and looked annoyed (I was paying for both sauces so not sure why that’s even an issue) and then we waited for our food, one steak was asked for medium-rare and one steak medium-well done, both came all different the edges of the steak you couldn’t even cut through and chew it was extremely tough meat then the rest both was rare, my sisters steak looked like it had been thrown around the kitchen absolutely did not look like the one on my plate, after we finished (left quite a lot of the steak as it just wasn’t nice at all) the same waitress came to clear the table and had us help her stack the plates onto her hands, I don’t mind being helpful but having to write my own order out and then help her take our plates away when I’m paying £100 for a lunch is abit a joke. Wouldn’t come here again as this was our first experience here and If you can’t get a steak right as a chef doesn’t leave much confidence with anything else. 2/5 and the 2 would of been a 1 but the bar serve was lovely, efficient and polite.

We arrived anticipated lunch with our daughter and son in law would be lovely. Pulling up the building looked beautiful and very festive. On arrival we sat waiting for our drinks order, nobody approached. Eventually we got the attention of a lovely waiter..he took our drinks order with a smile. After that things got laughable..we ordered food starters and main meals..starters arrived after around 20 mins..all okay. Main meals then took one hour 15 to arrive after chasing numerous times. On arrival it was inedible..cold and very disappointing. I asked to see the manager he apologised and said it was because he was on his break. The food was sent back and we were told that its the kitchen staff and it happens frequently..there would be no charge. I didn't ask for the no charge we would rather have a lovely lunch..the restaurant is really beautiful..but dear me the food looks like it was microwaved from Iceland..and that's flattering.
