Excellent hosts and a lovely friendly atmosphere. We always get a lovely welcome here! The White Lion is a very old traditional inn, that has been modernised but still retains its charm. We last visited on a Sunday evening and enjoyed a live acoustic music event which is held there each month. The pub provided supper for the musicians, which on this occasion was delicious pizzas. We found the hosts to be welcoming, friendly and generous. Would highly recommend.

A first class experience from beginning to end. Relaxed ambience, expert advice by the servers, exquisite food and great value. We had the tasting menu, with the wine flight and was one of the best meals/food experiences I've ever had - loved it so much I've been back since. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Lovely restaurant, very friendly staff but there it stops! We forgave the two poorly prepared coffees which had to be remade. However, we could not forgive the food that was served up. 'Homemade' Cheese and Onion pie with chips and beans (£14.50 each) - we were hoping for a treat at that price - sadly there was not much more than a tablespoon of beans in a tiny dish, a meagre portion of thin fries and a dish of what can only be described as thick cheese sauce 'mush' mixed with raw red onion, topped with a thin puff pastry lid (definitely NOT a pie) - yes we know there are overheads but that cannot have cost more than a few pounds at the very most to produce. Prices may have gone up but this was absolute miles away from value for money. I haven't made reference to the other meals in our party as I feel the above comments are damning enough. The bill for our party was close to £90 - we did offer constructive feedback to staff and it would have been fitting for some form of discount to be offered but none forthcoming. Experience was even more galling as our party had also spent over £350 in the store on top of lunch. Won't be returning to the restaurant or recommending.

I bought. Small items and went to pay with an Asian lady. I was told I have only Chang this is for a 10 pound note. When I questioned this I was told you either take it or leave it. I find this rude she didn’t ask for my card or a receipt I wasn’t offered. I felt that to cleare the tillofsmall change was here priority

Visited the store to shop and have lunch. Decided to give the revamped Bannisters another try after experiencing poor food and service on previous visits. Sadly, no change this time. The new layout and decor does nothing to enhance what could and should be an excellent restaurant. New layout with high back banquette seating makes it dark and dismal. Previous layout was far better. We waited around five minutes for someone to arrive to show us to a table (12.20). The restaurant was approximately 50% full. Seated with menus, but advised the kitchen had run out of coffee and eggs! we then spent over 15 minutes trying to get our order taken. The table on our left walked out after 20 minutes. Order evenutally taken for two chicken supreme dinners. These finally arrived after a futher of 30 minutes. Chicken and Yorkshire puddings were almost cold. The Yorkshire pudding was black on the outside and soggy in the middle. Chicken not as tender as expected. (Frozen) Roast potatoes were rock hard on the outside. Vegetables were bordering on raw rather than al dente. However, the cheese sauce was nice. The Manager was certainly not managing the area and obviously there are still issues in the kitchen. Wrong meals been sent out/returned. Staff training required. The Hive is now closed for what I presume is yet another reincarnation. We used to enjoy the Fish restaurant, but that went from been very good to mediocre. The food and service over the past fews years has certainly gone downhill and for the catering to survive a huge over haul is required. We did mention all the above to the waitress and on paying our bill (which was reduced by 10%).
