What a little gem of a cafe! Next to a decent sized car park, we popped into Yam Frae Yam on a disgustingly wet Saturday afternoon. We had missed the breakfast menu (served until 12) but one of us had a bacon and brie panini and lemon meringue blondie. Both were delicious and great quality. We both also had coffees which were expertly made. The staff were particularly friendly and helpful, even giving us recommendations on walking trails locally and showing us specific routes on Google maps. Loved the unusual decor and the cafe felt spacious - unlike many others where you feel like you're sat on top of other customers! A lovely place to spend a few hours on a rainy afternoon. We hope to return again and sample the breakfast menu! And a shout out to the young lad working there who served our drinks and food and was proactive in clearing our table.

Excellent service and great full English and breakfast cobs with extras. We arrived a little after the 11.30 end of breakfast, but were still able to have breakfast, we also had a cafetiere for 4. Staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Just what we needed after our 4 mile walk along the beach.

No food these days, but good selection of bar snacks including XL Cheese and the pints of Loweswater Gold are perfect, Usually another real ale is available. Service excellent. Nice crowd, like when I last drank in here in 2010. Prices very reasonable. Will drink & bar snack here again.

A beautiful evening spent in a lovely place. The staff were attentive without being over the top. The food was beautiful, both in ascetic and taste. Highly recommend the teriyaki beef and the lasagne. Perfect end was the calypso coffee and brandy. Many thanks to all of the the staff, front of house, and those in the kitchen. Oh and the cocktails were top notch 😉.

Does the boss ever smile? Food was okay but the boss rushing around with a face like thunder. Doesn't matter how busy you are but doesn't take much to smile

This place is a hidden gem. The food was absolutely lovely, cooked to perfection and the helpings are more than adequate even for the largest appetite. We have eaten at a variety of pubs in and around St Bees, Whitehaven, and Workington but have been so impressed that we will be using this on a regular basis for Sunday lunch as a minimum. We are more than happy to highly recommend the Castle Knights. PS they also provide dog lunches to take away.

Paid a visit to ravenglass on Saturday 4th January with another couple , and finished up in the ratty arms .... brilliant pub , excellent range of ales and lagers and a very warm welcome....most of all our visit was made all the more pleasant by the lady behind the bar .....sorry to say I didn't get her first name but her surname is Denvir.... She's an absolute diamond and can't do enough for her customers, needless to say we will be back for another visit in the not too distant future. Thanks again for a great afternoon....

A really great local pub and restaurant. We stopped here three times during our walking in The Lakes, once for food and twice for drinks after walking the fells. We always received a warm welcome and enjoyed the wide selection of brews. Food was great, high quality pub food that catered well for vegetarian and vegan options with everything accurately labelled. Lovely open fire place and great atmosphere with lots of people enjoying the food and ambience. Recommended.

Stopped off for lunch , I had a fish finger butty my husband had quiche. The young man that served us was exceptionally polite , however the food was of poor quality, the fish fingers were grey fish , I expected?? Homemade. They were tasteless , I asked for tartare sauce but they didn’t have any , my husband said the quiche was just about ok lots of salad leaves pilled high a quarter of tomato , plain and basic This place is set in a beautiful place we have been many times but unfortunately this time it wasn’t so good

Went to The Byre on recommendation today 6th February. Wish we could have tried the food and coffee to be able to leave a review. It was 3.05pm and we had been told it closed at 4pm. Whilst we were standing at the door a member of Staff came over and slyly put a hand up and hung a closed sign up in front of us then walked away. Wouldn't it have been more customer friendly to have spoken to us and say I'm sorry we are closed now. Or words to that effect. So disappointed as we visit the Lake District regularly and always look for different places to try. This cafe I'm sorry to say will not be one of them. Their attitude towards customers was abominable so don't deserve the trade.
