Such a shame. Really friendly and clean beer was nice. Food was fine. But I was being served. And then just left hanging until she served another customer who was local so rude. It happened to someone else. We drank our drink. And will never return even though we visit the area quite often there is a couple of more eating and drinking spots there. Such a shame as it is a tourist area.

It was so busy we should have booked. The amazing Jackie (see lots of other reviews) found us a table which was reserved for an hour later, then was able to move us before our food arrived ‘so I don’t have to disturb you later’. She said she wasn’t thinking too well tonight. On good days she must be a genius, Juggling so many customers with a friendly word and a smile for everyone. The food was good honest freshly cooked pub grub and the portions were huge. Both our starters would have made a perfectly acceptable lunch. I couldn’t finish my main course and that isn’t like me. A good selection of real ales and the bar generally looked well stocked. I didn’t have room for my favourite whisky but it was there. A thoroughly enjoyable experience for our last evening of camping nearby and we will be sure to visit again.

Spending a rather wet and windy couple of days in Ravenglass we chanced our arm on the first night to see if they were serving food and had a table for us. Understandably they didn’t as it was short notice. We visited the pub the following day to see if we could book a table for dinner that evening however, were advised that they were not doing food although a smell of food and didn’t ask when we would like the table for just advised no. A comment was also made by someone in the pub that they were only serving locals.

Visited twice with friends during our campsite stay. Very much pub grub but good quality, lots of it and prompt service with a smile. Good choice of ales and spirits. Wine menu very reasonably priced. Jackie very lovely and even stayed open when we dropped by for a couple of drinks late the evening before our departure. Do visit this pub. We mustn’t let it close again! Tuesday is quiz night and quite busy if you like that sort of thing…..

What a wonderful little pub! We were greeted at the bar by such a lovely lady who was super welcoming and very friendly. The drink prices were extremely reasonable as was the food. This is a friendly, unpretentious pub with pleasant and helpful staff. They had closed the kitchen when we arrived for dinner on our second visit but reopened it just for us. The menu is standard pub fare but the food is very good and plenty of it. There is an excellent selection of on-tap local beers and lagers. As it is housed in a converted station building, the windows look out onto the station platforms - a joy for train enthusiasts! The railway theme is reflected in the decor of the pub - a nice touch of character. It is frequented by locals as well as tourists - always a good sign!

Thank you Jackie for taking our last minute request to book a table for lunch at 1215pm on new year's eve. Our trip was very last minute, and to be able to get an immediate booking was fantastic. Our train from Lancaster arrived just after midday and we were sat at our window table straight away. Fabulous service and our lunch food was lovely, generous portions, and quality was outstanding. Turkey brie and cranberry baguette and the Christmas turkey stuffing etc baguette were delicious. And we really didn't need the chips but they were lovely too. Highly recommended before and/or after a trip to the steam train. Can't wait to return again in spring/summer.

The Ratty Arms pub is a converted railway station building situated right on the main line, a short walk over the bridge from the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway station. We spent the morning on the narrow gauge railway and then crossed over the main railway line to the pub. The friendly staff gave us a very warm welcome and served us with a good lunch which we could eat while watching the mainline trains coming and going through the station. There's a good selection of real ales on offer from local breweries. We were told that the pub is owned by the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway so your purchases here help to fund the railway!

Visited on a Sat evening, the kitchen closes at 8 and as we were a large party we'd booked and pre ordered. Friendly welcoming staff, clean tables etc. Food arrived promptly but with enough space between courses. As most folk say the portions were big - I was so glad I'd only ordered 2 courses but even then I couldn't finish my pud! Varied choices - standard pub grub as well as a range of specials. We had chicken tikka and rice - not spicy but lots of chicken etc. weirdly it came with a green salad and coleslaw? ! if I'd have known I'd have told them not to give me it and not have wasted food by not eating it. I'd have thought popadoms, nan bread more appropriate?. Sticky toffee pud was home made. £46 in total not inc our drinks so good value. All of our party enjoyed the food. I'd recommend booking.

She got this cleaned and sorted our drinks and food order, after this she vanished and nobody came back to clear our dirty plates or offer us desert menus. After 30 minutes we went up to the bar and said we had hoped to have desert, to which the man responded by giving me my bill. Nobody would have noticed if we had left or stayed. This was a big disappointment as it was my husbands birthday and we booked two weeks prior. People turning up outside got better service.Only downside to the food was the excessive fruit on a salad.

We sat down for a drink only to be approached by 2 different female members of staff who asked if we were eating! We said no and that we were told this wasn't possible. They said we would be ok on "that table". It was too late then because we had to order room service in our hotel to accommodate our granddaughter which meant we couldn't all eat together on our first night. We had booked for the Ratty Arms having been many times before, and always being satisfied, but this occasion was definitely worth reviewing. The service was excellent despite the place being fully booked, but the food was the high spot. The small seafood salad was sublime, decorated with fruits and everything you could want in a boring old salad (it was certainly not boring), with crab claws, smoked salmon and prawns. The cumberland sausage was not other sausage masquerading as the genuine item as sometimes happens in other places - it was genuine and delicious. The chicken nuggets were proper pieces of chicken and not frozen rubbish. All the food was beautifully presented and delicious, with normal pub prices rather than inflated tourist prices. We will return soon.

We booked an evening dinner for a large group of family members. We made a booking and liaised with the Manager, Bev, to pre-order one of the meals. The evening was a huge success. The staff were so attentive and friendly. The food was excellent and catered well for differing dietary requirements. As an event, we could not have asked for more.Thankyou to Bev and the staff at the Ratty Arms for a wonderful evening and a brilliant start to our weekend stay in Ravenglass. We will be back.

Had a very enjoyable lunch and drinks in the peaceful and pleasant beer garden. It was a very hot day but the tables are nicely shaded by the umbrellas. The staff are friendly. Tables inside can be reserved. Will definitely return.

We were camping with friends in a local camp site. One of the friends had often visited The Ratty Arms while on secondment in the area, so it seemed only natural to visit Bev and the other staff members. The food on both occasions was fabulous, good prices and friendly staff too. A lovely selection of beers too. It was so good, we ate at The Ratty twice!

My wife and I both choose the salads for our meal being a warm sunny evening. I never would have guessed how much sea food could be served up on one plate! Not only that there was lots of nice fruit mixed with the salad - strawberry, raspberry, grapes etc. There was so much food - good quality food- on my plate that I had to request a "doggy bag" to take the remainder home!Great service and reasonably priced - £14 for seafood salad. Give it a go!!

When staying in the area we went here for dinner one evening. It was nice and easy to book via email. In this area, a lot of pubs/restaurants seem on the expensive side especially when you're a family of 5 but The Ratty Arms had a nice atmosphere, lovely staff, and good, tasty food which we thought was good value for money. If we were back in this area again we would definitely return.

Due to covid we sat outside. The table service was excellent. Bev and Ed and team were friendly, chatting away like we were regulars (it was our first ever time) giving us tips and ideas on walks and trips for our stay, and even giving us a beer towel for our garden bar!It was cold and Bev managed to get us into the pub to eat earlier than our time. (recommation here - book as it's so popular)The food and service were excellent (chilli and steak) so much so we booked again for the following night. We were that well looked after we even got offered a lift to our hotel , but because it was dry we walkedWe went the next day and were greeted like old friends, again we sat outside for a while but it was sunny so that was good! The beer garden is lovely, well spaced out with nice flowers. I had requested the same table (next to the fire) and had a reserved sign with that on.Food and service were again excellent (curry and chilli) and the prosecco was delicious Thank you to Bev and Ed and team, we'll definitely be back

We ordered Sirloin steak (rare) and a Gammon steak. This was arguably the most offensive Sirloin Steak my partner has ever endured. Not only was it riddled with fat and gristle but the only ‘edible’ part was so blue it was verging on cold. My Gammon was also full of gristle and fat but that pails into insignificance when compared with a Sirloin as described. In an attempt to salvage something from the meal I had Sticky Toffee Pudding, which was very nice. My partner had hot chocolate Brownie and ice cream. This was more palatable, it was just a shame it wasn’t hot!I know you will be thinking ‘why didn’t you complain’?I was ready and willing but unfortunately I wasn’t offered that courtesy as at no point were we asked if the food was ok. Overall, very disappointing and definitely not recommend

Good food and drink, service, Halloween decos and great covid measures. We were staying at the local campsite, and had booked a table at 7:30pm, so we walked to the pub. The exterior looked really nicely lit up, and there is an old phone box.Inside was decorated with lots of Halloween decorations, which were fun and we enjoyed them. In the bar, I counted 50 scotch whiskey bottles, and drank draught Loweswater gold beer, which was lovely. The 3 of us ate fish and chips (as a safe option at somewhere that we hadn't been before). The fish were massive, served with chips, peas and salad. Mine was delicious, the other 2 were not quite as nice as mine, but still very nice. Staff were efficient and pleasant, and our food was served quickly and was hot. If you read my other reviews, you'll see that I'm not afraid to tell it is as it is, but this was a really good pub meal.Covid measures. Segregation was good, with non-intrusive screens between tables. Each table had an NHS QR code to scan. The young (younger than me) barman challenged a party of 8 people who wanted to sit close together, and he stood his ground, which we were pleased about.
