The Sunny Hill in Copeland

Went to The Sunny Hill Pub for a birthday meal. I had the steak, which was OK, but sad to say, I could have made better at home- to which I wish I had. There is no seasoning on the steak, and overall, it's just bland. The atmosphere is busy and loud. If you want OK food but plenty then this is the pub for you but sadly I won't be returning.

The food was lovely I had lasagna it was a establishmentmt only complaint would have to be the coke was watered down

Went for a meal with the girls from work, everything was lovely. Meal was very nice, big portion, really tasty.

The food here is of excellent value, however when it was my wifes birthday and I requested them to assist me with bringing the cake through. This was not done and then the service staff were not polite and on one occassion the food was literally slammed on the table and simply walked off

Proper pub food great menu and get plenty. Definitely recommend for a bite to eat. Nice decor inside as well and a play area for kids.

Went for a Christmas Eve meal with the family. Good pub food and plenty of it. Service was good but unfortunately one meal was forgotten and was eventually brought after some of us finished. They took the cost of it off the bill .

I went here on the night of Sunday, the 19th of November 2023, as I was visiting some family members in the local area, after a business trip. For legal reasons I must state that I don’t normally leave review for places, unless I feel it’s necessary for improvement This is my immediate relatives favourite place to eat, and since there was nowhere suitable, I deducted that this was my only option. Unfortunately, as soon as I turned up, I noticed there was some sort of christening party going on which meant I was standing at the entrance, waiting for a table up to 5 minutes, but that’s not the end of the story. Eventually I was shown to my table and the service was initially pretty fast, however, once I asked for the drinks menu, I had to do so three times before they were willing to pay me any attention. Now I admit, I have been here several times before with my inner circle and although expensive, the food was nice with a very friendly staff experience. On this occasion nonetheless, I have to say my experience was frustratingly disappointing as I was just about to decide what to have when the owner turned up and asked to have a private word with me. He accused me of hassling one of his bar staff, to which, I said in response, in one form another, that it must’ve been a case of mistaken identity, and was only there for some food. Not that it made any difference because the owner wasn’t willing to let me stay regardless and escorted me off the premises, which I thought was a bit rude. I was later, made aware by anonymous source that I wasn’t the first person that happened to that evening, so I wasn’t surprised when a group of people walked up and left in the immediate aftermath It’s a brilliant place to go, if you want to be accused of a crime that didn’t happen not to mention if you like being ignored, which is a shame because usually this is a great place to go. In summary, while I can’t legally advise people to stay away from this place, without good reason, I would attend here with caution and be prepared to be turned away at a moments notice.

Came on a Wednesday evening to an extremely busy pub, we didn't pre book and did have a struggle finding some parking nearby luckily found some on the road as the car park was rammed. Thankfully they found a table for the two of us, we just had to wait at the bar for around 10 minutes. Drinks prices were very reasonable and the football was playing so that passed the time. Food was really good, huge portions along with being really flavourful and most importantly piping hot. The soup of the day although it probably won't be available again was spicy pumpkin soup and it was without a doubt the best soup I have ever had, so many places do soup so poorly but wow if the rest of their soups are this good you'd always be pleased. Would definitely return even if it was just for a pint and to watch some sports on their huge TVs. Definitely recommend.

A good selection of food, friendly staff and a sizeable dining area but be prepared for it to be busy! We visited on a Wednesday night and luckily we had booked ahead of time, the place was packed and I couldn’t see any spare tables - very surprising but great to see for a midweek evening! The menu here is massive, plenty of choices amongst the many categories - there’s definitely something for everyone! Unfortunately we had to wait around 30 minutes for our drinks & food order to be taken, we were tucked away in the corner and given how busy it was, a bit of a wait is understandable. Our server was apologetic for the delay and she was very friendly, she also made sure our drinks came straight away to avoid further delay. Food came after around an hour, again - a bit of a wait but the conversation and the atmosphere was good so we weren’t overly bothered about the time, like I said it was really busy so it’s understandable! The food came and the portion sizes were great, I went for the peri peri butterfly chicken breast, the chicken was cooked well but it did lack a little in the peri peri seasoning - maybe a peri peri dip with this dish would be a nice complement. The chips were lovely and the coleslaw was really good too. I was very full after the meal and didn’t have room for pudding, the cakes in the stand definitely did look good though so I’ll have to make sure I get one next time! Overall, a lovely pub meal in a nice pub/restaurant and I would definitely recommend if you’re in the area! I will just add that the parking isn’t the best, the car park fills up very quickly and you may have to park on the street so keep this in mind if you are visiting during peak hours!

What a great place stayed in Whitehaven for 1 night, and I'm so glad we chòse to eat here . Friendly staff that managed to fit us in as a walk-in (didn't book) on a busy steak night. Food was excellent, massive portions, amazing steak, great chips, just a shame I couldn't eat it all.. 10/10 for venue, staff and food Angie & Carl. Birmingham x

Lovely place, nice food. They do a lovely children's menu we had sausage and chips with pudding and a drink £7.99. There was a soft play for an extra £1.95.

Just had lunch with my two teenage grandchildren. The food was amazing staff really nice.was even allowed to take home what we didn't eat.definately go again and recommend 👌

Came today small car park which was full while we was there. Got took to a seat very nice modern interior. Theres a very small indoor kids play area which was free while we was there. Have to keep eye on your little ones tho as the kids that was in there wouldnt let my lad in the door. I enjoyed my steak burger but my Mrs didn't enjoy the fish so mixed review! There was poor selection on ciders aswel! More expensive than average pub but you do get good portion size. Kids meal is £8 for drink meal and pudding. Couldn't find menu online so took some pictures. Staff seemed friendly. Overall was OK but wouldn't return.

Come here for my first time expecting a lovely meal, to receive a half raw burger. Service was poor. Not welcoming or friendly at all.

Ordered the T-bone steak which was more bone than steak. They forgot to bring the sauce I ordered, when reminded they eventually brought out something that looked more like white soup. Won't be back.

They were prepared to seat 11 of us with no notice at all and bring our dogs along (it was very difficult to find a restaurant that will accept dogs, something that can be a problem if you are from out of town). The service was great with friendly and helpful staff. Plenty of delicious meals to choose from and the portion sizes was huge! Everyone struggled to finish their food. Absolutely delicious! Very pleasantly surprised! They also have their own private parking which was not on the road.

I quit like it here, food and facilities are really good (softplay available), it's got a proper pub pub vibe to it rather than modernised décor . Food is pretty good, hearty and the Sunday carvery bang on however I've noticed the quality of gravy change, not a deal breaker ever but sometimes it's nicer than others, or sometimes its made with real beef stock, other times perhaps not. Service is lovely, direct to the table and if you're in a rush you can pay at the till rather than wait for service. The only real meh, and this is dependent on the mood you're in is it also doubles up as a pub albeit around a corner and down some steps. Not a problem to me as such, but the later the meal the more potential drunken cheers you may hear from said bar... So yeah, in short, a very good all round package dressed up in a traditional pub environment 👍

Due to us being a large group, we had a wait on food however it was well worth the wait , absolutely beautiful the chef has always served brilliant food , we had our orders taken and drinks were served and offered through our time there, staff were brilliant, the soft play assistant was amazing with the children I'm sad to hear that's shel be leaving to go to uni in September the kids will miss her as we tend to go there on family occasions.

Food was nice. Piping hot and very well presented. I only have 2 negative comments - the display glasses on the shelves were very dusty (i only say this as it makes me wonder about attention to detail on cleanliness) and you had to try and catch someone serving food to order more drinks as no1 was on the till and no1 asked if we were ok - you dont want to run around when eating to order drinks. Would definitely return, though.

Sharing platter came for 2 on a slate with no other plates but was really good and a big portion I got farmhouse Cumberland sausage which was the biggest I’ve ever seen and again came with a huge bowl of chips And mrs got mixed grill which again was huge, food was good service could of been a little better only because it felt like they’d forgotten about waiting to order food and took 30 min for main to turn up But good overall

i came in for a meal last night and the portion sizes where huge, the staff were friendly and checked back on our table. the only complaint i had was that the food was bland. i had the battered chicken strips and it tasted of nothing. the chips where nice apart from in the bottom of my bowl there was just scraps. apart from that it was a lovely and very well priced.

Great place to eat priced reasonably, staff very friendly and food is great with homemade chips can not fault anything I have had or others who have been with me.

Absolutely shocking service , I waited 15mins to order food then a futher 40mins for food (witch I never got) as I walked out ,everyone else who walked in after me got their food no problem. Been here plenty of times and never had a problem, the attitude from the staff was ridiculous when I asked where my food was , I definitely won't be back

We popped in last minute and got a table. The waitress was very attentive. Food was fantastic- a T bone and scampi. Couldn’t fault food or service and to top it off very good value for money.

Appreciate busy times but the staff just looked confused & disorganised. Although we booked in, we were sent to the bar as they didn't have a table.. we asked for 2 coffee's & the lad behind the bar barely acknowledged us & seemed put out! 10mins stood at the bar...no sign of anyone doing our coffees & still not being seated so we just walked out!

Steak 🥩 night, totally amazing 😋 Visited this pub for evening meal whilst we were on holiday 😎 in the area. What a fab pub. Friendly staff and nice decor. Extensive menu and plenty of homemade dishes too. Opted for steak night special (Wednesday's) 16oz rump, tomato, mushrooms, peas, choice of two sides and a sauce or dip for £ 18, well cooked and so much food!! 😮 😁 Give this establishment a try, you definitely won't be disappointed!! 5 star 🌟 ⭐🌟⭐🌟

First visit, we shared 2 salt & pepper boxes between 4,very tasty, huge portions, staff friendly, service very good. 2nd visit today had surf & turf, cooked rare, Sirloin steak medium, steak cheese burger, all fantastic, my daughter ordered chicken strips off the specials menu & they were enormous, she had to take 3 home, The dime cheese cake is to die for, and a great choice, deserts in the display Highly recommend. We will definitely be back soon.

Went sunny hill for Sunday lunch with grand daughter. Service was ok just. Granddaughter got lasagne then ice cream. She enjoyed it. I opted for Sunday dinner choose beef. Well it was like chewing an old piece of leather, and tasteless then this was left....
