Stopped off for lunch , I had a fish finger butty my husband had quiche. The young man that served us was exceptionally polite , however the food was of poor quality, the fish fingers were grey fish , I expected?? Homemade. They were tasteless , I asked for tartare sauce but they didn’t have any , my husband said the quiche was just about ok lots of salad leaves pilled high a quarter of tomato , plain and basic This place is set in a beautiful place we have been many times but unfortunately this time it wasn’t so good

As soon as we arrived the feeling of the place was warm and welcoming, the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. We had one small breakfast and one regular breakfast and a pot of tea. It was easily the best cooked breakfast we have ever had. Sausages and bacon were amazing quality and everything was cooked perfectly. Portion sizes were perfect, we left feeling full up but not overfed. You have to come here if you are visiting the local area, such a wonderful place.

We have visited the cafe and gift shop for many years and it never fails to disappoint in terms of excellent food and service. Hidden away you could easily miss this stunning tearoom, but its well worth finding it. Everyone is made to feel very welcome . Outside seating is a delight on a warm day but there is also room inside . All food is made to order, cakes and breads all home made as i suspect is most of the other delights on offer. The gift shop next door is equally as delightful with many treasures to fins and stocking many local craft goodies. Well worth a visit any day of the week.

We were hoping to find a tea room in the Ravenglass area and came upon The Woodlands Tea Room quite by chance. What a gem! Three of us ordered the Cream Tea, which included a tasty sandwich, made with local products, and a delicious scone, served with jam and cream. The fourth member of our group ordered a prawn sandwich. This came with a dressed salad. There was a decent pot of tea to accompany the food. We appreciated the mix of china cups and plates, with designs we remembered from our childhood. We were made welcome and although the bistro was busy, we were served relatively quickly and with a smile. A lovely experience to cheer up a grey Bank Holiday Monday! Thank you!

Nice setting. Very average food. Slow service and staff not really interested, almost like they were doing you a favour. Rubbery scrambled eggs, small portion. Aldi bread. Wouldn’t return or recommend. Busy because there is very little choice in this quiet corner of Cumbria.

Against all the odds, snow and ice, the staff struggled to get into the café on Sunday 3rd of December, to prepare outside catering, tapas, for our Argentine Tango Christmas dance. They went above and beyond to get this food to us. It was wonderful tapas, excellently prepared and presented. We had lots of positive comments from our dancers about it. Thank you so very much for making our celebration fabulous. We would highly recommend their outside catering service. The Last Tango in West Cumbria dance group,

My husband and I visited this lovely cafe after it came highly recommended by an estate agent who we had viewed a house with. We ordered two Woodland Cream Teas with prawn filling as our choice of sandwich. It came beautifully presented on a tiered tea cake stand. The sandwiches were made with homemade granary bread and extremely deep filled with the prawns. Absolutely delicious! The scones were also homemade and again tasted amazing. We enjoyed it so much that we returned the next day after a long walk and enjoyed cappuccinos with a slice of chocolate fudge cake and a slice of Victoria sponge which was deep filled with cream and jam. Again scrumptious! Both times staff were very friendly and attentive. We definitely recommend that you stop here if visiting in the Wasdale area.

We stopped by on the way from a visit to Bootle Beach. The setting is stunning, peaceful and tranquil, with a variety of small birds snacking on the Woodlands feeders. We were offered a seat by the window and enjoyed searching through the extensive menu. Our order of caramel shortbread and lattes was taken promptly by a polite and friendly member of the team. The food and drinks arrived promptly and both were delicious, especially the coffee. The unique ambience was conducive to enjoying a lazy afternoon in Santon Bridge! In 2019 we had Christmas lunch at this cafe, we enjoyed it so much we decided at some point to return for an afternoon tea. We visited in September for my birthday (only just got round to reviewing) and have to say I was left very disappointed. Service was extremely slow, from sitting down to having the food served to us was 50 minutes. We were given a menu when we arrived and told to ‘pick a sandwich’. Afternoon tea usually comes with a selection, so I had to ask, how many could we have? Told we could have two flavours each from what was on the menu. When the tea finally arrived it looked nothing like the picture on the website on a wooden stack, brimming with lovely cakes etc. There was no chutney on the pork pies and what was served was processed ‘bought in’ type food, the quiche was cold and stodgy. The home made bread was dry. An extremely slim sliver of lemon cheesecake and banoffee pie were served as the dessert. These did appear homemade, but the toffee sauce hadn’t set on the banoffee so was runny slop and both bases were soggy and not crisp biscuit. The tea pot leaked all over the table when poured. The couple running this cafe seemed run off their feet, with not enough staff to cope. Both were extremely pleasant. However, for £20 each we definitely didn’t get value for money. This is the price you pay in a hotel not a cafe and get far superior food and service. We had a second tea a few weeks later for the same price at the Cragwood Hotel in Windermere for £19.95 each and it was absolutely superb in comparison. I’m sorry to say all this as I know they are a small business trying to make an honest living in difficult times, but I feel we didn’t get what is clearly shown as an example of the tea on their website

We stayed in Santon Bridge for a week and the Woodland's Tea Room played an integral part in how much we enjoyed the area. We visited the Tea Room every day - their food is excellent and the menu much more extensive than you might expect from a tea room. I was blown away by their baked goods, particularly the chocolate cake with mint frosting, which was some of the best cake I've ever had, but I can't stress enough how good the food was in general (not just sweets). The staff were warm, welcoming, and engaging. We raided their gift shop (chocolates, books, jewelry, clothing, etc.) repeatedly. They even were able to sell us local eggs and homemade bread when I didn't feel like going to a market. Our holiday wouldn't have been remotely the same without being able to walk to this wonderful establishment. Highly recommended.

The welcome is warm and inviting, food is still tip-top and although there's one or two small enhancement's it's still the wonderful cafe in the wood's where you can while away your time sipping wonderful hot chocolate while watching the bird's swinging on the feed's, partaking of a nice afternoon tea, or a really filling lunch. They've also got a wee craft shop with some unusual gift idea's, and they also occasionally run a workshop or two! I can recommend them too! asI've attended several of them and I do recommend them wholeheartedly! but for me, it's the welcome you receive on entering the establishment, the food and the locals that make me return again and again!

We were looking for somewhere to eat and beginning to think nowhere existed. But then we came across this wonderful little gem. My wife had homemade quiche Lorraine and it was amazing.

Went to Woodlands tearoom today with another family for a coffee and slice of cake after out walk in the fells. Although the tearoom was fog friendly which was great as we had our dog with us the service was shocking. The member of staff ignored us whilst he carried on preparing other customers order, he could have acknowledged our presence and said I'll be with you soon! It took nearly 45 minutes from our arrival before we got our order. Plus thought it was quite pricey £20 for 4 people. Will not be returning!

Fabulous service taking a real interest in us as visitors to the area. Huge sandwiches which were very tasty and a good selection of cakes. Highly recommended.

Went for lunch midweek in October. Quite busy but does take reservations. There is outdoor seating if weather good. Staff really friendly and service good with sensible prices. Had soup and generously filled sandwiches on homemade bread. Cakes looked great but had no room! There is also a gluten free menu. All food we saw looked really nice and ours was certainly very tasty. Will definitely return when in the area.

We visited at the weekend, hoped to have afternoon tea, but as this need to be booked in advance, we chose cream tea - scone and a sandwich. It was delicious - both the sandwich on homemade bread was super fresh, and the homemade scone with cream and jam. All the food and cakes looked delicious. We definitely plan to return for the full afternoon tea.

Stopped off after a Wastwater walk and got a nice table outside. The owners are new but are still making amazing food. The Banoffee pie was made by the owner and it was stunning! Dog friendly, does Sunday Dinners and sandwiches, cakes, coffee etc. A must visit if you’re on the way to or back from Wastwater

Called in for a light lunch and the food was very enjoyable, good homemade slaws, and the wraps had tasty ingredients. The only have reservations with are the homemade wraps, they are half soft and half crispy lacking any sort of flavour, I think they should be considerd work in progress.

Welcoming and great homecooked food, nothing fancy, just good, tasty wholesome food. We had two Lasagnes and a fish n chips and Scampie enjoyed by all and generous portion sizes. Family and very dog friendly. A lovely atmosphere and character. We would be very happy to return. Thanks

The ultimate burger is worth a go; flavourful and a meat lovers dream. Portions are those of a feeder. From a business point of view, you could take 20% of the volume from each plate and they would still be generous. Can't judge the staff as there was a few lairy Christmas parties in that would suck your soul. They were harassed on the night but remained professional if not warm and welcoming. Will go back based on my first experience, just not at Christmas.
