Came here for lunch last week to meet a customer who lives in the area. The pub is very large with plenty of seating, but not busy at all - for large parts of our time there we were the only ones in there. The young lady behind the bar was friendly enough. We had a light lunch here from the fairly basic menu - the brie and bacon brioche sandwich was nice enough, but there was just no atmosphere in this place. It was okay, nothing more.

We called in to meet with family and friends on New years day, stayed 30 mins, was very busy, no mention of paying for parking that any of us saw. 15/1/2025 3 PARKING TICKETS @ £100 EACH. Disgusting !

Had a lovely experience this evening for dinner. All the food was excellent. The portions were very generous. The Bar and Restaurant manager's were very attentive and genuinely interested in how we had enjoyed our experience. Apparently they have a very good selection of wine which I look forward to trying on my return.

I go for a few beers every week with my Kiwi mate. We used to go to the Hesketh over the road, but when it closed for a refurb in July 2024 we changed over to the Bold.....and have never been back. It is far more friendly and a very welcoming pub that retains its old English Pub charm. The Manager Jo, what can I say, her very enthusiastic personality is ingrained into the pub and whilst most pubs are dead outside normal meal times, there is a consistent flow of regulars coming and going all the time. On the rare occasion the open fires are lit (to be honest it is bloomin hot when they are ) it just lifts the pub to another level in winter. There is only one area that requires improvement, the owners Greene King need to dig deep and replace the tables and chairs in the out side area. It would not cost them a fortune.

On our two day trip to Chester we visited a lot of interesting pub/bars and restaurants and one of the first pubs we visited was the Town Crier. This superb local pub is located across the street from the train station and is housed in a grade-II listed building. Built in 1865 as a hotel'this brilliant pub has a spacious well kept interior with a brilliant beergarden. There's excellent feature's and excellent decor throughout this pub and it has numerous TV screen's as its a fantastic pub to watch live sport. Me and my twin where walking to the hotel we were staying in but as we couldn't book in until 15.00 we went here for a beer.It was busy on our visit but it didnt take us long to get served. It has an excellent drink's range in here and real ales. On our visit we had a few glasse's of beer's from Fosters brewery lager which is a beer we don't usually have but they were served in perfect condition and where reasonably priced. It's a superb pub that's well worth visiting if your around this area as they also offer an excellent well priced food menu and is very easy to get to as it's across the street from the train station. (This is my 2nd review of the Town Crier). Opening Hours. Monday-Thursday-09.00-23.00. Friday-Saturday-09.00-00.00. Sunday-09.00-23.00. Public Transport. Bus Stop. Railway Station Bus Stop-1-5-5E-16-41-X1- Train Station. Chester Train Station.
