We diverted here for a much needed pint when walking in very adverse weather conditions along Lady Anne’s Way from Kirkby Stephen to Appleby. We received a friendly welcome despite our rather wet condition and departed later back into the rain revived by a good pint of Black Sheep.

Called in for a drink, sat outside as no dogs are allowed and we had ours with us. Locals are friendly and chatted. This pub does food.

Came here for our evening meal whilst visiting Ravenstonedale. We both had gammon and it was nice. The waitress was extremely friendly and very attentive. A lovely atmosphere, fires burning, cosy.. we would come again if we ever return..

This is a very cosy village pub with a friendly atmosphere used a lot by locals. The beer selection is good and they have a simple policy on food, they serve a selection of hot pies with chips or new potatoes and that’s it. So if you want a pie and a pint this is the place for you.

Just went for a main course and a beer which was a good job. There is a selection of pies with vegetables and potatoes or chilli and rice or chicken tikka and rice. If done well that would have been OK but the chicken and mushroom pie had very minimal chicken and the chilli was very dry. Staff were pleasant an service was prompt. If it was to take food seriously then it will need to be better otherwise better sticking to being a just a pub.

A pleasant enough little hostelry in the village of Brough. We were staying at the Inn across the road and popped in for a pint. Well used by locals and really cheap. In not sure I'd want to done or stay in the Fleece but cheap 'n cheerful and probably worth a visit - and let's face it, there's not much choice in the village!!

Old fashioned country pub with welcoming bar staff and friendly locals. Very limited menu with mainly pies, mince and lasagne - didn't stop for food though. Plenty of real ales to choose from and an open fire to keep you toasty.

We pulled off the main road for a lunch break. The bar wasn't busy, just a few locals. Typical bar meal menu - fish & chips, steak pie and the usual fare. Service was slow considering the low level of business and somewhat desultory. The meals were fine as far as bar meals go, but nothing special. Would we go again? Possibly.

a good range of drinks on offer including real ale. Not a lot of food choice but what we had was tasty and home made.

Came for lunch after a freezing rainy windy section of the C2C and the staff could not have been more lovely, they lit us a fire to dry our things and fed us very well- cannot thank them enough! Would highly recommend the food too!

Stayed here to break our journey from Central Scotland to the Peak District. Had a very pleasant chalet type room at the rear of the property with easy access. Enjoyed a drink and an evening meal in the bar with our wee dog. We both had the sirloin steak with was generous in proportion and quite tasty.Staff friendly as were the locals. Would definitely return.

Cosy, friendly, and superb location, everything you would want from a lakeland pub....£15 for two mulled wines! I have had far cheaper and far better in ski resorts with fantastic views of the Alps.
