Had Sunday lunch here recently. Positives - Lovely old characterful building. The food is well cooked & a generous portion. Service is good. Negatives - we were in the great hall as restaurant was being refurbished. Our table was right in front of the door so very draughty / cold. Veg all seem to be roasted. I prefer steamed / boiled as the fresh veg cuts through the rich heaviness of the rest of the Sunday lunch elements. Meal overall & Gravy wasn’t very warm.

Before visiting Tintern Abbey we decided to find a good pub in the area. The Fountain Inn is just lovely, off the beaten track through beautiful woods with a stream alongside the road. It is an atmospheric 17th century pub with a roaring log fire and a great menu, it was difficult to choose as there was a fantastic range of food and very good value too. We were really pleased with the food we had, it was cooked to perfection, steak and duck just as we’d asked, a good selection of perfectly cooked fresh vegetables, delicious potato rosti and dauphinois. They even make their own bread which is a treat and we really enjoyed the ales they have. The lady who served us was lovely, very warm and friendly, she couldn’t have been more hospitable and welcoming. It was our wedding anniversary so thanks to the Fountain Inn for making it a very memorable one!

From the moment we arrived we were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming smile. Nothing was too much trouble, we were even allowed to take the dogs in. Vast choice of menu, with or without chips. My husband had chicken tikka bites, great idea for fusion food, and I had a chicken tikka wrap, all with chips! Sat outside and ate it. Great experience
