Lovely surroundings and places to walk nearby. Convenient for the pub. Enjoyed the hot tub. Would definitely stay again!

Lovely country pub in a quaint village in the middle of beautiful, rolling hills. What is not to like about this place?! The staff are friendly and welcoming, the food is good with the chef making efforts to add flair to traditional dishes. The rooms are nicely done and well maintained. Definitely a great place to stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at one of the Blue Lion Apartments. Everything was spotlessly clean. Very comfortable. A home away from home. Delicious Sunday lunch at The Blue Lion pub. Very friendly staff.

We eat here often when we are visiting the area. Sunday lunch is excellent although an additional choice of meat would be welcome. I last reviewed this place in June 2024 and my review was extremely complimentary of the food choice. How things change in a few months. The normal daily menu has changed drastically. It’s all burgers and pizza with only one chicken dish which I might describe as real food. Everything is with chips without a salad or vegetable to be seen. I’m very disappointed that all the healthier better food choices have been removed and only a few of them can only be found on the Sunday lunch menu. I noticed there were a couple of specials on a board on the bar but these weren’t any better. What ever happened to proper meat (used to be lovely steaks, mixed grill etc) a choice of vegetables and salad. If I want burgers I can go to McDonalds. If I want pizza I can go to Pizza Hut. Bring back real food!

The food here is really good. It’s a small menu but very well thought out. It’s not chips with everything but they are available for those who like them. The choice of starters were so good I nearly had just starters instead of a main. In the end I had the Dee Valley crumble for main. It was unusual and delicious. The prawn salad I had for starter was different and delicious too. I am looking forward to returning and trying some other items on the menu. The young members of staff were extremely busy but still had time to be pleasant. It’s lovely to see some interaction and the fact they engaged with customers. Dare I say that this can be rare. We shall be visiting again the next time we are in the area.

We would have given 5 stars if we had known about certain things before but felt that the information on booking.com was misleading. It said breakfast was included but it wasn’t great just toast, cereal and some tea cakes really and on the 2nd day there wasn’t any butter so couldn’t have the toast etc. Also the coffee machine wasn’t working on the 2nd day either and there isn’t anyone around to ask so we just went out for breakfast instead. It also said that the restaurant was open everyday except Monday & Tuesday but this isn’t the case it only opens Friday, Saturday & Sunday I assume because it’s not busy enough at this time of year. Tbf it does state this on their website but I was just going off what it says on booking.com when I booked. All this being said the room was lovely, the bed was comfy and the location was great for exploring north wales. It was good value for money and we would stay again just lower our expectations on breakfast and being able to get dinner midweek.

On my way home from a weekend in Anglesey, my car unfortunately broke down nearby. I was given the details or a nearby garage who came to my rescue. Unfortunately the parts to fix the car weren't available until the next day. The Blue Lion was just down the road from the garage and so I booked a night there. After explaining to the lady my situation, she couldn't help enough, even offering to give me a lift to the garage the following day. In fact, everyone I met was just so lovely. The room was lovely too - spacious, clean and modern.

The experience was great. The room is quite neat and well arranged. We had a breakfast which was excellent. Generally, we enjoyed our stay.

Came here for a meal with friends. I ordered the hunters chicken which was charcoal to death. Dry as anything no bbq sauce like stated. The best part of my meal was the gravy off my friend’s meal? We were shown to table and left to it not checked on to even raise a complaint, it felt like we were a hindrance to the staff which was a shame. However the appetisers we had were quite nice. Wont be rushing back.

Stayed here for one night in August with friends after enjoying a day on Lake Bala. Booked two beautiful double rooms - really comfortable, super clean and well decorated. We also had a lovely meal - 2 delicious fish & chips and 2 burgers. All homemade. The continental breakfast (included in the really reasonable room rate) was really brilliant. All laid out ready for self service and kept us going all day. What really made our stay was the wonderful welcome from Donna. She was so friendly and helpful, even arranging for us to store our bikes inside. The family atmosphere of the pub was lovely. Would really recommend a stay here - will definitely come again when we’re in the area. Thank you!

Very good and friendly bar with good choice of drinks,both staff and regulars friendly .we were staying in Llandrillo about 3 miles drive but we'll worth it ,even if we got to village first we would carry on to travel here

The place was pleasant and service was good, but the cheese burger was only just edible. The bun was toasted to charcoal and the burger was overcooked, tough, chewy and tasteless. Had better frozen burger from Aldi.

The most accommodating host who sorted out a room for us at very short notice. I’d definitely recommend visiting this pub.

We visited here yesterday evening having booked and ordered in advance with us being such a big party. We were booked for 6pm and didn't get starters until 7.10 then mains at 7.45! The appetizers/started were lovely - we should of stopped there. Some of the mains that arrived were not great. The smothered chicken was over cooked and burnt, the mixed grill did not have all the different meats it said on the menu, the steak was chewy and the mushroom sauce we received was actually peppercorn! We paid and left as the waitress was already in tears from numerous complaints so didn't feel we could say too much! The service was fine but the food let it down.

Pub crowded and noisy so you could not hear the person next to you and then when I went to my room the pub was noisy inside and then outside until 2am. If you want a chilled pint and good nights sleep definitely not for you sadly.

A great place to stay to explore the beautiful Dee Valley and the surrounding area. We stayed in one of the two bedroom apartments which was very nicely presented with new decor, comfortable furnishings, and the hot tub was a bonus. It was spotlessly clean when we arrived. The bedrooms were a little on the tight size but had very comfy king size beds, the kitchen was adequate for 4 people and the lounge comfortable. The manager Lucy was extremely helpful especially when it came to extending our stay due to being unable to travel in the heavy snow that fell overnight. Would we stay again? Emphatically yes we would.

We absolutely love this place! Our second time back and staying in the apartments over the road. The apartments are fantastic, have everything you could need with a added bonus of a hot tub! We ate in the pub, food was lovely and well priced. Our visit unfortunately coincided with the awful weather we had and we couldn't make it the first night but had great communication with Lucy over 2 days and was so glad we made it for 1 night. We will absolutely be back for a 3rd time!!

We - 2 couples - had the best stay in a Blue Lion apartment for 4 nights, to explore & sight-see. The apartment (no.2) is really a house - 2 floors, immaculately maintained, with a smart kitchen, shower-room, spacious lounge/diner, all fitted out & decorated to a very high standard. The luxurious hot tub is very well-maintained. The pub is a delight, at the heart of the village, food was excellent & reasonably-priced. Lucy & her staff are very friendly, hard-working & accommodating - Lucy offered us another night’s stay due to snow fall on our last night, which we happily took up rather than risk the icy roads. There’s a very well-stocked corner shop & post office right opposite the accommodation, staffed by a charming owner, & there are gorgeous walks from the accom. & pub, so there’s no requirement to drive. It was a great base for us to explore N.Wales from & we hope to return. We highly recommend!

The Blue Lion was an amazing find. We stayed as a couple with our dog.a very friendly welcome from staff, who took us up to our room which was lovely. Clean, comfortable, modern, with everything you could wish for for an overnight stay. We had a fabulous dinner in the bar with our dog where the friendly staff and local customer were very welcoming. A continental breakfast was included too...what a bonus. A definite recommendation 😃

We visited this pub in August 2022 where we met up with our friends who were staying at a B&B run by Matt just round the corner from the pub. We arrived to watch the football on sky sports and followed up with having the Sunday lunch which was excellent, the portions were plentiful and extremely tasty, no complaints whatsoever! We then went outside into the outdoor seating area in the sunshine and we was made to feel very welcome by Matt and the locals and in particular we were entertained by a local character named Gareth who had us in stitches, one of our party even got involved in shaving Gareth’s head for charity. All in all if you want a warm friendly pub with great food, good selection of beer and some local entertainment you cant go far wrong here. Thanks to Gareth and Matt for a great Sunday afternoon and evening. 👍👍

Booked this hotel last minute for a 1 night getaway with the missus, quiet beautiful location and a homely atmosphere. Had a few drinks in the pub at nighttime and Morgan working on the bar did an excellent job of making our night enjoyable, top guy. The room was excellent and very well presented. Would highly recommend this place to anyone considering a stay in Cynwyd, will be returning 👍

The Sunday lunch we were provided was amazing! Big portion, well worth the money! Last minute booking for us and they managed to squeeze us in without complaints. Props to the chef! Food arrived quickly and staff were very friendly and helpful. If you're looking for somewhere with friendly staff and locals then I would recommend this restaurant/pub!

Even though we visited between Christmas and New Year we still decided to have turkey. It was tasty and the portions were generous. For starters we had home made soup and grilled goats cheese with caramelised onion. These were good too. I can’t comment on...

First impressions were great; clean tidy modern pub. Full Welsh breakfast was just the job to start the day. Clearly popular with locals and visitors alike as many tables were booked for the evening. Only downside was the lack of options on cask ales.

We stayed B&B for 5 nights from 15th - 20th August 2021. Our room was spotlessly clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Bed linen, towels, toiletries and decor was all high quality and the room was cleaned and made up every day except one....

Had a room over the attached restaurant facing onto the busy T Junction at the front of the pub. The room was nice and well appointed. Highish quality bathroom but no Loo roll holder? The sole blind at the front facing window had been broken...

We had a weekend stay in the apartments over the road from the pub...gorgeous apartments, very clean and tidy with a lovely homely feel, and the hot tub is an added bonus! We had a meal in the pub too and the food, as always, was outstanding. The staff are friendly and so attentive...can’t fault it at all! The outside bar is brilliant and the massive tv is a welcome addition for a bit of music :) can’t wait to come back

Had last minute stay in apartment 3. The apartment was excellent and provided everything we needed for our 2 night stay , quality and standard of renovations were superb. We used the outdoor area and Hot tub and were blessed with hottest day so far this year.Will be rebooking and hopefully the Blue Lion pub will be reopen and we can enjoy the food and beer garden next time.

What a great weekend spent here, we had the 6 person apartment for 2 nights for bank holiday weekend, the whole place was immaculate, hot tub was ready for us on arrival, easy to locate, places for parking, great location right in the town and right opposite the local pub! Can’t wait to return this summer!

We stopped here back in September; this was a pleasant stay for us! We stopped in the apartment above the pub It beds 6 people (4 adults & 2 kids), but there was only 2 of us so we had plenty of space :)We hardly heard the pub below us other than the odd local enjoying themselves but that is expected and is a part of the experience from being above the pub.Christian Sykes was around and gave us a few messages checking in on us and making sure there was not any problems, which was nice, and any problems were sorted out quickly.We were looked after by all the staff here, Both Bar and Kitchen were great! We want to say a special thank you to Anthony who worked behind the bar who was friendly with us, always smiling and cheerful and introduced us to the locals who were all great characters. He was a massive part of our stay here and recommended a few placed for us to visit while we were stopping.

Stumbled upon this gem purely because we were staying nearby. We were a bit worried because it was quiet but we were pleasantly surprised. The menu was more than just standard pub grub and it didn't disappoint. A freshly made burger cooked to perfection and a succulent chicken breast served with a crostini. Speedy friendly service. We couldn't have asked for more,

Had Sunday lamb dinner takeaway, 10 out of 10. Plenty of everything, mountain of succulent lamb. Huge Yorkshire pudding

A lovely cosy country pub/restaurant, friendly & attentive staff. Been for lots of meals out since we’ve been able to, and this was by far the best, well presented, good sized portions, excellent value for money & delicious homemade food. Good children’s menu also & crayons etc provided for little ones. All thoroughly enjoyed our food & the atmosphere & will definitely be visiting again soon ~ highly recommended.

Been out for a last meal out before the new lockdown begins here in Wales. Had table service throughout, great food and drink served, and all good value for money. And good to see the takeaway options available for the lockdown period.

Me and my partner stayed here for a little night away recently and really enjoyed the stay! The room was very clean and lots of supplements were provided on arrival. Very cosy and welcoming place to stay with very friendly staff. The breakfast was nicely set out for anytime before 10am which we loved. We will definitely keep this place in mind to stay in the future!

Stayed in Cynwyd in a cottage for a week. Popped into the Blue Lion on a few occasions. The pub was really friendly and welcoming. We decided to have evening meal. The menu for a small country pub was really appetising and the food was excellent. My husband had the burger which was huge. I had pasta which was lovely. The meal overall with puds was really tasty and well cooked. So much so, we treated ourselves on our final night to evening meal. Not disappointed at all the food just as good. My husband had the steak which was again excellent. The ambience of the pub was also great . The staff and locals were so friendly. We would not hesitate to return. Loved the area and the pub.

Couldn't recommend the Blue Lion highly enough. The room was lovely and had everything needed for a comfortable stay. Went to the Blue Lion for the first time to meet friends and have food. The pub was busy, although observing social distancing. We got served pretty quickly and the staff were friendly too. Was told the pub had hired a new chef and although I can't compare to the previous one.. we had Roast Beef dinner which was exceptional...will defo return!

Went to the The Blue Lion with my wife and to grown up daughters for lunch. The menu has lots of choice. Food is home cooked and was delicious. Will definitely be going back.

Stayed in the apartment above the pub. Apartment is well decorated and had everything we needed. Just take ear plugs as Friday and Saturday nights were noisy!! But peaceful the rest of the week! Ate in the pub once and the food was excellent. Make sure you go to the Cynwyd waterfall accessed through the campsite. Definitely worth a visit and even more so after heavy rain! Would highly recommend staying here.

We stayed in one of their lovely apartments across the road from the pub ( actually in a converted pub) , and I have to say, they were excellent, lots of little extras , and the jacuzzi was just pure luxury, and so relaxing, after a long walk in the hills . In the evening, we ate in the pub, we all had the fried chicken ( which was recommended to us) , and this was full of flavour and very succulent, and we found all the staff to be very friendly and helpful, all in all , a great break . Highly recommended.

Recently stayed at the Blue Lion. Room was absolutely immaculate with lovely finishing touches. Bar area was cosy and warm with loads of character. Beer garden was gorgeous and such a sun trap. Staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be returning x

We recently stayed at the newly refurbished blue lion and we weren’t disappointed. After a long day out walking with my family we arrived at the blue lion.At first glance beautiful old pub with some modern touches, as we walked in there was a fire roaring away and plenty of people relaxing and enjoying there evening. Once checked in we were shown to our room, the room had everything you’d expect when your staying away for the night...from free toiletries, smart tv, king size bed, iron and ironing board to coffee and tea making facilities. The room was impeccably clean and very spacious, although we did have an additional bed that had put up at our request for our daughter to stay in, both beds were extremely comfy.Later on that evening we decided to give the restaurant a try and again we were totally impressed. My husband and I had the confit belly pork to start...followed by a steak for my main with my husband having the seared duck...all dishes were excellent. No room for puddings unfortunately.Following day breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice.We’ve already booked another night here this summer.

Such a lovely little country pub in a quiet village, with beautiful rooms above it. Stayed here with my partner for my birthday. Spacious, modern room. Very comfy bed. Lots of room, not cramped at all.Ate here last night, had an unreal 5 course meal and lots of prosecco. The food really was outstanding. I highly recommend the seared duck!!! Breakfast was also perfect, the best poached eggs I’ve had in a long time.I’ll definitely be back ☺️☺️☺️

Friendly enough staff but restaurant service very very slow and staff seemingly lacking in experience. Meat arrived with potatos and burnt yorkshires puds, veg finnaly came nearly five min later in cold dishes and no serving spoons (lady from other table kindly noticed and got us some) Waitress did get us fresh yorkshires and more gravy when asked. Overpriced not suprise only 2 other tables in. No Atmosphere /music such a shame.

Good food, good company, friendly staff. Spent the day watching rugby. Took part in the charity function in the evening . Locals made us feel part of the community.

Recently visited the Blue Lion after a day of go-karting in the nearby Cerrig-y-drudion track. The Pub/Restaurant has a lovely modern country decor. A great choice of beers, wines and ciders.... which as you can imagine after thrashing out a few laps we as a group of 6 were ready for refreshments!! After a debrief from the race we decided to order some food.... having heard that the new chef was in town it was a no brainer to order here! We were served by a very waitress who highly recommended the pie of the day that was being served as a special! Whenever I’m offered homemade steak and local ale pie with triple cooked chips, peas and sticky red cabbage I can never refuse! I’m certainly glad I didn’t. The steak was tender with excellent flavours and seasoned to perfection. If you are in the area for whatever reason? Walking, sight-seeing, go-karting.... then definitely pop in to the Blue Lion for a cosy environment with great food and drinks.Thank you Blue Lion. We shall be back soon!

This was our second visit to the blue lion, previously we stayed over night and were far from disappointed but this time was simply another level. We had heard a rumour from a friend in the village that there was a Michelin star chef taking the reins in the kitchen so booked a table for 4! My wife and I had starters, being the duck and confit belly pork which were both garnished perfectly. I had the steak as my main and the wife the sea bass, these are reqular meals in our household but were astounded to level they were served. We requested in passing to the waitress that we’d like to understand how the standard was reached and after aperitifs the said michelin star chef came to our table and gave us a 5 minute cooking lesson. ClassI had the creme brûlée for dessert and even after living in France for number of years it was like nothing before, my wife had the cheesecake and was contemplating seconds. The staff were fantastic all round, there was a charity event in the main bar which made for a great evening afterwards, this place has a special vibe and we felt completely at ease and so at home, even being an hour away from our own bed!!!

My fiancé and I visited the restaurant with our friends whilst staying in the area and visiting a couple of restaurants for the weekend. What can I say.... a relaxed and comfortable restaurant, with attentive staff. We ordered the confit duck legs with green lentils to start; I had the 8oz rump steak, my fiancé had the chicken mozzarella for mains; to finish we both devoured the sticky toffee pudding... the meals were lovely and definitely tasty! The waitress gave our compliments to the chef, who then kindly came to thank us directly to our table. There was a comfortable selection of gin and wine. We retired following our meal to the busy bar to the charity evening, I can but say we were welcomed with open arms by the locals who had a heart felt community spirit for their event. Definitely worth a visit to the lovely area, set in the beautiful rolling hills of the Berwyn Mountain range. Just what we needed !

Menu did not match up to the menu online with very little choice. More options available at home from the cupboards! Waiting service was unfriendly bordering on rude. When the food eventually arrived it wasn't up to standard (food dressings seemed to be watered down) and expensive for poor quality food. Got the bill wrong at the end (an expensive steak added to the bill which was not ordered)- would not recommend at all.

Stayed here with my husband, grandchildren and daughter. The accommodation was of a high standard, comfortable bed and very clean. We all ate here and the food was absolutely delicious. Steak, chicken, seabass, pork, home cooked chips. Absolutely every meal was spot on. Very friendly manager and staff. This is a dog friendly place which is even better. I cant reccomend the place enough.

Just completed a fantastic plate of fish, chips and mushy peas. A good size fish, freshly and individually cooked to order. Lovely crispy batter and very hot. Good plate of chips and very tasty mushy peas. All for £8.50 which included a pint. Mike and Charlie are both extremely welcoming and will do everything in their power to ensure you enjoy your evening. The pub has been refurbished to a high standard, and all in all, a very nice mid week meal in a lovely atmosphere. Very good value and thank you.

Visited the Blue Lion last night to try the Fish and Chips from the new bar menu. The meal arrived no longer than ten minutes after ordering it. The fish was a large portion, coupled with a large plate of chips and a small dish of mushy peas. The fish was freshly cooked and the batter was lovely and light and very crispy. My wife and son both had the scampi, which was again a good portion and very pleasant to the eye. The meals were part of a promotion and cost £8.50 with a pint of larger. Exceptional value. The pub has undergone a revamp and is well worth a visit.
