Visited after a lovely post-Christmas walk along the canal. I ordered a bowl of soup and my husband only wanted a coffee. This cafe is in a beautiful setting and the menu looked good. However, I waited ages for the soup to arrive and in fact thought they had forgotten about me so I went to ask. I was told there were two other orders in front of me. My husband had long finished his coffee when it did eventually arrive. Great potential here but the service needs to be sorted. Hopefully this was just a blip on the day we visited.

Very poor customer experience, we ordered poached eggs on toast which weren’t hot and the bread was not toasted enough, scrambled eggs arrived with chives on, so I apologised & told the server (in chefs whites) that I cannot eat onions/chives, only to be rudely told that I should have told them when I ordered, to which I responded that had I ordered anything that may have contained them I would have, but she walked away repeating that I should have said. The eggs were remade, but it was dry, tasteless and cooked the microwave and the toast cold with tasteless spread. Very disappointed as had heard good things about Nellie’s, I mentioned it to the manager who apologised, then said but now you know we put chives on. 🙄

Unfortunately this meal was awful. The mixed grill was bland and the pork was bleeding. My partner had the ribs and it was flavourless and extremely fatty- very poor quality. The children shared a burger which was such a low quality meat it looks so processed. We brought it to the attention of the bar maid within 5 minutes of the meal- they were adamant to take the mixed grill and cook it but in fact we asked them not to and they still included it on the bill despite not eating it (£25!) The ribs were taken off the bill but it was such a poor experience. It makes sense that the restaurant was empty when we walked in. Very very poor quality food for not cheap prices and the celebratory meal we were hoping for.

I stayed for just the one night mid week in March and really enjoyed the stay. The New Court In is a pub with a number of rooms upstairs and there's a separate entrance if you're arriving late or leaving early. It's located in the centre of USK with all the amenities a short walk away. You can park outside on the street for free. The staff are fantastic, friendly and welcome you like their best ever guest and the rooms are comfortable with decent bedding and a really comfortable mattress ensuring a good night's sleep. My room was compact with a small ensuite and typical in size for buildings of this type. Tea & a pod coffee machine or on hand and you get fresh milk in a little thermos rather than the uht stuff that is common, this was a nice touch. Food was very good indeed - home made burger and gigantic onion rings was my choice for dinner and there's a home cooked breakfast in the morning with proper thick toast that's actually toasted and hot! Tea comes in a pot and you get a mug, another nice touch. You have to preorder breakfast the night before so it's pretty much ready when you get down in the morning. It's a great place to stay or eat. Try it you will not be disappointed.

Decided to have lunch in the Riverside 16/05/2025. Sat inside, starter arrived after 35 minutes- Fishcake, food was not piping hot , also not homemade. I ordered the Mediterranean vegetable tart with new potatoes .The tart was cold in the middle rest of it was only warm. Waitress took it back to kitchen. I was told a fresh tart would be cooked for me, & that it would take 5 minutes. I replied is the tart frozen if it would be ready in 5 mins. The waitress informed me that the “chef “ would blast it in the microwave and then 5 minutes in oven. My second meal arrived, this time it was not Luke warm on outside & cold in the middle again. The waitress told me that the “chef” had probed the tart for the temperature as she saw him do this. I gave her my plate back she put her fingers in the middle of the tart & said it felt hot to her “really “. I said I did not want a third meal, she said she could quickly make me something else . In the microwave no doubt. Surely the “chef” should have made sure his second attempt of my meal would be piping hot. The standard of this restaurant is below par. Interested to know if any food in this restaurant is freshly made. The cost of my meal had been taken off the bill. My husband didn’t eat much of his meal because he was concerned about my meal. This was explained to the cashier who walked into the kitchen to speak to the “chef”, she returned and charged us for the starter & drinks. There was no apology given to us. Disgusting service, staff and quality of food.

Very good restaurant with great food. This was a Friday afternoon visit. We chose the half lobster £35 ,the presentation was very good, cooked just right and tasted delicious. We chose a bottle of chardonnay £35 which complimented the meal well. For desert chocolate pannacotta £10 was very good. The service was good and friendly.

Very disappointed Order Tom yum soup with prawns asked to make it mild turned up with loads of Birds Eye chilli’s and full of tough ginger root Prawns however were delicious Then Prawn toast no prawns and looked like the crusts at end of bread Main course arrived like warm at best My partner had the honey duck which she said was delicious apart from the Veg which was frozen the defrosted and served up Second time I have visited thought I would give them another try after the last dreadful experience but not much changed Other tables also sending back food that was Luke warm obviously warmed In microwave but not stirred as base hot the rest like warm
