We had booked to stay here for one night during a road trip around Wales but, on arrival, discovered the booking had been cancelled. I think it was me, by accident… anyway, the couple who run the Slaters could not have been better. They finished preparing a room for us and our dog Pamela. We ate in the pub (which is busy, friendly and really welcoming) and the food was very high standard. The village is small but great to wander around and locals chatted to us as we went. The room was lovely too. Quite big, very clean and excellent bathroom. The outside of the pub doesn’t give a clue as to the welcome and standard awaiting you. Excellent in every way.
We visited on a sunny but cool lunch time out of the peak season. The location at the end of the beach and near to a car park is very handy. The beach view from nearly anywhere in the cafe is probably the stand out feature here.
But the food and drink compete well with the view! We had toasties and milkshakes - both great by any standard. Possibly a tad pricey but the quality and convenience more than justifies the price.
The small points for us that nudge this closer to 4/5 than 5/5 was the lack of obvious shelter available in bad (wet) weather - although plenty of umbrellas for the sun). The other minor issue for us was the general waste and mixed recycling - bins provided of course, which is good, but most items are served takeaway in wrappers which may or may not be recycleable once dirty? Either way, clearly not many customers seemed to be really paying attention to this.
We visited for our daughter's birthday lunch on New Year's eve. Only a short walk from the Ffestiniog steam railway station.
We ate in the vault, for fun, and had it all to ourselves. The food was lovely and even though there were not many staff working due to the date, the food and drinks were served quickly.
Highly recommended.
Very busy - lovely coffee & scones
Such a shame that people feel the need to bring dogs into eating places - more like a "doggy playground.".......can't believe their mentality.
Visited this small cafe .We had a good cup of coffee .The lady behind the counter was very chatty and friendly .A good selection of cakes and sandwiches was available .We then bought some goods from the charity shop in the same building .A pleasant visit .

PLEASE NOTE: We had hoped to have lunch here (18 June 2023), but a notice on the door said "closed till further notice." We found an alternative at the Plas Brondanw Cafe in nearby Garreg.
