Food- everything was really nice (fish cakes were small and only got 4 bits- reason for 4/5).
Service- women who took my order over the phone was nice . Time management of restaurant was very poor. When I ordered I was told 45 minutes, I clarified on the phone asking if it was actually 45 mins or should I come down later as I just didn’t want to be stood about (which happened last time I ordered when I waiting in the car after being told 5-10 mins. I went back in 20 mins later and get told the fryer had just broken and got half the order with no apology). I was then told actually to come in 55 mins- totally fine for a Saturday evening. I arrived a hour after placing the order and get told 5-10 mins and to wait in my car. Long story short it took another 25/30minutes. Original pick up time-50 mins, actual 85 mins.
My issue is not necessarily with the wait time itself but with the fact that there’s an obvious mismanagement of timings that’s then put onto the customer. If you only have one member of staff cooking account for it when telling someone their pick up time or don’t accept the order if you need to focus on tables in the restaurant. I was then made to feel like I was in the wrong ‘you can see it’s only me in here’ and ‘I asked you to wait in your car’ (I did for 15 mins). I sympathise to a point but you knew your capacity when accepting the order so the onus of that is not with me. I did receive an apology when I explained my frustrations but I can’t say it felt sincere. Food was tasty tho but not worth the stress.

We were over from Fife for the day and had googled the best chippy in Ayr. Well Google was right- superb fish and chips and great, friendly service. It was lunchtime and we got two fish suppers and one sausage supper for £11! It was, supposedly, a small portion of fish for the lunch special (£4!) but it was still a decent size piece of fish, cooked perfectly. Sausage supper was similarly great. Chips were excellent too. 100% recommend.
It's cash only, and the owner said to go to Farm Foods over the road and get cashback, rather than use the nearest ATM as it charges, which was really kind.
This is not the first time we have had poor service from this restaurant, Poor communication, long wait before cancelling order.
Try Doigh Balls instead, much better.

Had a take out this evening and the only word to describe everything was delicious! Massaman chicken curry deal and a Chicken Tom Yum soup. Will be back next week!
The Clocktower needs more staff. Plain and simple. The chef is clearly talented and when the food finally arrived (after 90 minutes) we all enjoyed.
If the front of house knew they were short-staffed, they should have mentioned that to paying guests from the moment they walked in, and let them decide whether or not they had time to stay.
We waiting 45 mins just for our drinks to arrive. When our food arrived 45 minutes after the drinks, one order was wrong.
The staff were polite but clearly today's issue might be a regular occurance going by previous reviews.
Shame, as we live locally but this would stop us coming again.

Love coming here to grab a quick bite and am really impressed with the selection of delicious soups, cakes and toasties they have to offer. Spoilt for choice!
Always a lovely welcome.
You can go in for a pastry and coffee at cheap prices, or a more expensive meal.
Owners go out their way to deliver good service, which is why they have repeat customers.
Lasagne recommended with cheese.
A rare gem. ✨️
This is one of the best restaurants in Ayrshire in my opinion reasonable price excellent food & good portions . The staff are very friendly & Treat you like a friend rather than a customer . If you are anywhere near Dundonald in Ayrshire I highly recommend you give it a try you won't be disappointed.
