I arrived on my own with my dog. You have to order inside but dogs aren’t allowed inside. It was quite busy but the waiting staff asked if I was alone and said they’d be happy to come and take my order at the table. They came
quickly, took my order and brought it out really promptly. The crab sandwich was lush. I had a choice of white wine, and the Sauvignon Blanc was delicious. They were so chatty and lovely. They were happy for me to pay when I left and I’ll definitely
be returning.
Go to the bakers next door and buy filled rolls .
We had goujons frozen and dryed out in fryer . Chips dreadful , look I am not going to go through everything and will end on a positive the outside of the cafe is really pretty . Stay on the outside though !
We ate here as we stayed in the hotel. We had dinner and breakfast. As a couple, we have lived and eaten in every continent and concluded that expensive doesn't mean quality.
In this restaurant, which is not overpriced by any means, the class of the chef shines through. Simple things like the choice of chips served, the way the chicken and steak was cooked, the selection of the ingredients for the breakfast shows , that the chef actually cares as to not just what they cook, but also what they buy.
Many chefs in hotels nowadays can only cook what someone else with price in mind, buys but here it's clear that the chef takes an interest as he and his wife own it. That's what makes the difference and everywhere we have eaten in the world the difference has been if the staff have a slice of it.
Superb. Eat here. You won't regret it. And the views are spectacular
Not really the best meal. The scallop and pork belly starter was disappointing and cold. Scallops weren’t really cooked well and pork belly was cold. Pumpkin puree and other sauce didn’t really work. I ordered the venison and it was hands down the worst I have ever had. Extremely chewy. The waiter appeared new and when I asked if there was a Pinot nois on the wine menu he simply replied ‘I don’t know’ and walked away. I wouldn’t go back.
Can’t get more central in Melrose than the Townhouse. Convenient to all of the independent shops and starting point for walks. Parking is good both on-street and hotel carpark. A family owned hotel run with obvious pride. Smartly dressed staff, friendly and helpful. Superb breakfast (we’ll return for dinner.) Our room was spacious and stylish with a great view over the square and to the Eildon hills. Everywhere was immaculate. Can’t recommend enough.
Wonderful authentic restaurant
Great service and atmosphere.
Excellent menu choices. Nice wine.
Fantastic home made soup, hot and very flavourful and superb steak pizza, with proper light, perfectly cooked dough, great flavours, with fresh tomatoes and rocket and the steak was beautifully cooked fresh. I highly recommend this restaurant.
authentic Italian restaurant with lots of charm & traditional vibes. The early bird 2 course menu is excellent value for money at £13.50 pp with all the classic dishes on. We opted for the regular menu, i had the calamari fritters & sea bass with mushroom ravioli ( was lobster on menu but they had run out). The fish was cooked to perfection & the ravioli was amazing in the red pepper sauce. My partner had panzenolle ( probably spelt that wrong but it was pieces of pizza dough with a garlic mayo dip ) & steak diane. He said the steak was one of the best he had, very tender. The restaurant was full, which apparently it is mostly, good atmosphere & lots of attentive staff. very good👍
Probably the worst lunch I have ever had, the cheapest ingredients.
There was not one thing nice about it
It was mostly unedible. I could have bought a better sandwich out a garage. Absolutely shocking The coffee wasn't much better. I would definitely not recommend this place now.
Excellent value. I had a beautiful fresh fish, crispy batter and perfect chips - what else is there to say? One of the best fish and chips I’ve had in a very long time
