The best restaurants in Lowlands

I travel this way, A68, between Newcastle and Edinburgh. Always stop in here, clean and warm. Nice menu, well made. Lots of parking

Amazing scones serves with butter, jam and clotted cream. Beautiful food, lovely view of the Abbey and great service.

Our hotel said there was no need today book for supper in dining room but we found it full so looked elsewhere and found this. Excellent pizza and salad after several days of pub food.

We had a lovely lunch in this small café. The chowder was delicious and the staff were friendly and efficient. They prefer payment by cash if possible. (They have a toilet for customer use, but it is at the back which is up a few steps.)

Delightful cafe with cheery service and good quality good value food, an excellent alternative to motorway service stations which would have been our other choice on our journey to Scotland. Well worth the short detour.

An accidental find when we’d missed lunch opening hours elsewhere. Needed something Coeliac-friendly, and DD did so much more! Could be in Prague, Krakow, or ….well, anywhere bookish and bohemian, DD is quirky but not kitsch. Coffee is good, mezze is great, and cake quality is very very good…and almost everything is gluten-fee (I could share a mezze platter with my gluten-loving g wife. All the cakes except one were gf). Slightly hidden away off the end of the High St, prices are decent, and its a peaceful space you could step into briefly or waste an afternoon in. Really liked the staff too! Perfect excuse for a wee trip from Edinburgh.

Visited here for lunch with the kids whilst on holiday in the area. Friendly & welcoming staff and the food and drinks we had were really tasty. The coronation chicken baked potato was delicious and we all had cakes too which were lovely. It gets really busy and can see why. Definitely recommend!

Best haggis I ever ate. And the rest of the food was also very good. Cody bar and nice restaurant, Don’t know about the hotel because we didn’t stay here. I absolutely recommend to go here for drinks and dinner.

Booked at very short notice and were made to feel so welcome. Delicious food and amazing staff. Only issue is that we ordered too much, but it was absolutely no problem for them to pack it for us to take home. We've not had an Indian for a while and this amazing place really hit the mark.

This cafe is now under new ownership and is called THE KNOWES. It is open from 9:30 until 4 (3 on a Sunday). It has been under new ownership since February this year and has had a lick of paint and a fresh menu - albeit broadly similar to the old one. Having visited the cafe several times on visits to Kelso over the last few years, it remains my favourite venue to get a hot drink and a simple meal. The premises are kept very clean and presentable.

Lovely, small cafe in the centre of Melrose. The savoury scone was good and the chutney really made it special. Great staff

We went here for a light lunch followed by ice cream. So many flavours of ice cream , you can’t fail to find one that you will like . You can also order 6 scoop taster which is definitely a good idea if you want to sample a few different flavours, the amount served os more than enough . The lunch menu is also good if you are after a sandwich or soup etc. Prices were also very reasonable . Plenty Parking at the farm too . Staff were friendly.

Always assured of a great welcome from a young staff. Very hard working and a smile always. Food great and great coffee. Had bacon roll - bacon extremely crispy which is lovely.

Great Food, Along with friendly staff but looking very tired and signs of damp which is a shame as only a few hours decorating would be needed to give it 100%
