Franco’s in Scottish Borders

As a local, we love Francos, great family atmosphere and excellent choice of food (we don’t eat meat and lots of options). Kids love the pizza and pasta! Take away is good too! :)

Visited with a few work colleagues based in an old English pub it is a small setting. We were rapidly seated with pre-arranged bookings. Service was fast, and the food was lovely. I ate the bruscheta and ham pizza, which were both of decent sizes. Had a lovely time, so thanks for having us. The plates were empty at the end.

Just a wonderful friendly Italian restaurant. Lots of old road bikes on the walls, great atmosphere and wonderful service. Gluten free options for pizza and pasta.

Fantastic authentic Italian dining here, great food and service, good prices The place was busy, which is always a good sign, we had booked a table for 7 on a Saturday night before heading down stairs to The Bridge pub The food was terrific in the restaurant, vegan cheese available for the pizza as well as other vegan alternatives on the menu, really happy with that! certainly recommend and will be back!

Excellent family-run Italian restaurant. Great food, friendly efficient service. Good portions and value. Menu has familiar items from the 1970s, but more for those wanting more authentic Italian food. Highly recommend.

Booked a table well in advance which was just as well. Very busy on a Saturday night. Service was quick. Menu quite extensive and dishes good quality and generously proportioned. Prices are quite high and a bit disappointed to be delivered bottle of white and red wines without being offered a choice despite asking for wine list. Both wines were nice but pretty expensive. Reasonably happy with the birthday celebration though.

Spent a day in Peebles with my two son's and part of our plan was to have pizza for dinner so we were not disapointed by our visit to Franco's. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and so helpful and most importantly the pizza's were delicious and so tasty we will be definitely returning to Franco's on our next visit to Peebles, Thank you so much for your kind hospitality and great service and excellent food experience all three of us give you five stars and look forward to our next visit to Franco's

First time here! Initially put off by lack of kerb appeal, however decided to visit & loved it. Food excellent, well cooked, piping hot & huge portions. Prices good. Staff lovely. Highly recommend!

Staying in Peebles for a couple of days, checked up on restaurants, made a great choice to go to francos. Staff charming, arancini, brushetta, chicken stroganoff, chicken escalope all delicious. Lovely buzzy atmosphere, well priced, will definitely be back when in Peebles. A must go to! Julie Hugh sneddon.

Pre ordered five of their largest pizzas and then went down to pick them up. Had to wait 10mins but better to get hot than them waiting for us. I'm not a big pizza fan but the four of us really enjoyed them. And a lot to eat. Five was two much for four blokes. £66 all in. Felt like excellent value for money.

A meal out with my 8 yr old. So we tend to review things together and she was “unsure” about the atmosphere! But the pizzas were great and service too 👍

We visited here a couple of years ago and it was amazing. This time, the food didn't live up to our expectations. My husbands pizza was cold, my pasta was lukewarm and my son wasn't keen on the garlic bread with cheese. The service was good and the atmosphere great but it was a bit of a let down.

They have the most beautiful classic Italian road bikes on the walls. The man that runs it is a total charmer, especially if you show interest in his bicycles. We went for the gnocchi special and a spicy sausage pizza. They'll do it half and half for ya like pizzerias in the good old days. Both were good, but the gnocchi was exceptional. Almond pesto and cheese, ooft. We didn't even ask if they had tiramisu, we knew they would. It was a treat.

First visit. Easy to find. Parking on the street, could be tricky at busy times. Restaurant on first floor with two sets of steps to climb. Tables a little close so a cozy atmosphere. Everything looked clean and organized. Host showed us to table and took drinks order quickly. Place was fairly busy and we didn't have to wait too long for food. Food looked and tasted very nice. Decent portions. Recommend the chicken stroganoff. Followed by an ice cream sundae. Good range of pasta and pizza dishes on menu. Plus usual standards. Host was very attentive and staff pleasant. Would use again for sure. No more pricey than the average restaurant. All food well presented and cooked.

I was tasked with organising our work night out and quickly decided Francos would be the perfect place after reading reviews. I was not disappointed! Fantastic food, delicious wine, amazing service, we could not have asked for more! Cannot thank the staff enough, everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Francos is a truly great Italian Restaurant. Franco runs front of house and his amazing wife runs the kitchen. Food is always consistent and authentic. Atmosphere is cosy and homely. Highly recommended the specials and the wine!

Small corner of Sorrento in Peebles, in a historic room overlooking the river. Friendly and welcoming staff, nice atmosphere and wide range of food for both vegetarians and gluten intolerants (pizza and pasta). Definitely worth a try if you're in the area

Popped in on what appeared to be a very busy Saturday night. Even though we did not have a booking, the lovely girl who greeted us managed to find us a seat after speaking to the manager. We ordered a house glass of red wine, a large bottle of moretti, 2 pizzas, and a side of chips, which came to just over £40 (great value). All the food was delicious, cooked well, and we really enjoyed it. The house wine is very bitter and not to my liking, so will order a better quality next time. Every staff member we spoke to/engaged with were very friendly and professional. From observation of the general atmosphere restaurant, I would say the manager needs to relax a bit more as he can appear very tense and fraught, resulting in you feeling uneasy as a diner. Overall, a tasty meal and I would return.

Best Pizza we had ever eaten. Always come here every holiday. The pasta we've had at other times and is exceptional. I see other reviews complaining about the owner being rude but he is genuinely such a nice guy and if you book a table over the phone you will have no issues. It's really really busy. Amazing deserts also.

Random find for us while we're in the area for a few days. Booked ahead as I thought it might be busy, it was. Almost every table was taken. Great service by the staff, lovely food at sensible prices. Next time we're in area we'll be back.

Didn't book was a Friday night and the was busy. Was told to come back in 20 mins. Returned 20 mins later greeted with a walm welcome seated straight away. Great food and wine. Lovely Italian

Fantastic food. They even make the pasta in house themselves - and it tastes excellent!

The food was nice, the bar staff were lovely and so helpful but soon as we walked in the owner was sat there and was moaning at the bar staff about us been seated, he then continued to stare at us and continued to moan to the bar staff. A other couple came in which there was no room for and the owner had ago at the bar staff again and said just tell then no. I dont need there custom. He was very very rude and made us feel on edge.

This place is fab! The food was perfectly prepared from the tomatoes and the focaccia to the pasta. The wine menu is a breath of fresh air. The owner or manager (I think?!) and his staff were just so friendly and attentive. The view of the river out the window is a bonus too. If you're down this way, do not miss out on popping in here!

Franco and his family run a great restaurant! The Arancini starter and Lemon Sorbet desert are my recommendations.

Finding a Campanian from Massa Lubrense in Peebles who prepares pizza in many ways and has warmed your heart for 30 years.... small but very nice place, very kind and smiling staff and welcoming owner..... the "pulled pork" is excellent. .... definitely worth the trip!!!

Booked for early hogmanay night, we were welcmed by a lovely cheery waitress that showed us to our table unfortunately we found that the table under a window was rather draughty and the restaurant was on the cold side. After a few minutes the owner showed us to a central table and had advised that the heating was now on. Food ordered, garlic mushrooms to start very nice and tasty, mains for me was the canalone again very tasty and hot but found that the tomato puree had no cream base, wife ordered pizza campaniola but was advised only pizza margareta with tomatoes was available the wine was OK. When we received the bill we noticed that a charge of £1 was added for the 4 slices of tomato on the pizza. Now considering that without the £1 added our bill for two came to £56.58. Need I say anymore.

We enjoyed a pleasant dining in Franco's with exceptional cuisine that complimented the atmosphere of this happy family restaurant, the attitude of the staff was great, and dining was splendid, this restaurant I do greatly recommend for its fabulous Italian cuisine.

Nice „real“ italian place - Pizza was very good with crisp crust and fresh ingedients. Very friendly server and the owner gave us a table even though we didnt reserve in advance (so I guess thats advisable). pricing was okay (still expensive to compared to continental Europe but didnt seem overpriced with margeritha starting at 10 pound)

Service was OK from the staff boss needs people skills. My husband's food was not good sea food and my portion was small. We complained and were not charged for my husband's meal as he could not finish it. Second visit will not be back.

Had a decent meal here inly trouble was waitress poured olive oil from my caprise over my trousers. Now ruined. Not much of an apology and not even a complimentary drink. Spoiled my experience there. Food was good.

We were really looking forward to our dinner at Franco's in Peebles having read the glowing reviews. Unfortunately, the chef has some very strange affinity to what must be smoked paprika, which seems to be in a number of main dishes and unfortunately completely overwhelms them. Otherwise, the pizza was good and the staff friendly enough. So my advice is to go for a pizza and ask for a window seat

We were visiting for two days and as tourists we looked at the reviews of this place and a few more! The staff are very friendly but the food is very disappointing:/ the price of pizza and the wait for a takeaway you would think time and preparation was taken for our food. The food was very very tasteless. There was hardly any toppings. And the dough prepared wasn’t up to standard. As people who work in the food industry and was visiting to review food places this wasn’t up to standard at all. But again I will say staff are very friendly.

Brilliant evening! Great, genuine, Italian food at a lovely Italian family-run business. Excellent wine, served by Franco himself....who obviously knows his wines. And we made new friends too! Couldn't have enjoyed ourselves more.

Excellent meal, excellent staff

Great experience all around. Food was great, the pizza crust was amazing! But the best part was the customer service- the manager/owner was extremely attentive, exceptionally thoughtful. We were a big rambunctious table of 8, with 4 kids 4 and under. The kids ate every single bite, the platters were served so thoughtfully for the kids, and so quickly!! I especially appreciated that they served our starving kids first, and even opened the restaurant slightly early just to accommodate us. We didn't get to properly thank all the staff- the amazing waitresses, the manager, everyone- but I hope they read this and know how much we appreciate making us all feel so welcome. I would HIGHLY recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting delicious food, and a warm, welcome environment.

We came here twice whilst mountain biking and amazing food, and Franco is a really nice chap with good wine knowledge and recommendations plus he likes his road biking. Recommended and will visit again when next up this way.

At the end of main street and a quaint entrance, we were really surprised when we got upstairs. Nice atmosphere and great Italian selection. Owner was very friendly and staff welcoming. We managed to get seated just before a rush of guests arrived and enjoyed pizzas and desserts. Will return again

Outside doesn't inspire as its a side door to a pub, however the food was good which made up for it. Tasty fresh pasta & the pizza was good too. Good value.
