Nothing like in the pics, a chaotic place which isn’t that clean. Toilets full of dust, loose toilet seat, crumbs on the floor near cake stand. The food was average for an average price but would I return, sorry no. Staff very friendly and helpful but the place seems to need to up its game. Gas bottles left loose in the place.

We arrived today with a pram and a sleepy 16week old who soon woke up crying to be fed. The staff were patient with us and accommodating. We suggested that, for their sake, we’d leave the pram outside. No, no, bring it in, they replied. Our stress level went from a ten to a 2. Good people.

Lovely little cafe, good quality food and good value. Amazing chips. Lovely coffee. Children's meal deal was good value for money would defiantly go back. Only downside was cheap sauces the mayo was really runny please buy heinz or a nice thick one with flavour don't have to be really expensive. Lovely friendly staff.

Friendly staff in a very busy cafe. We managed to get the last available table for six. We just wanted a light lunch so decided to order 3 toastie/panini meals to share. We were delighted when the food arrived served by the chefs who told us they had given us all bigger portions of chips as we were sharing. The food was excellent and the service went above & beyond expectations.

This café initially caught our attention however on entry our group of women were met with a frosty unwelcoming female who did not want to accommodated us .reason??? Her loss as we felt we had to leave . We moved on to a great welcome at the waterfront . 😳😳 business lost !!!

This was a shame, we went in and the girl said she would sit us in a minute, 5 to 10 mins later we were still standing so we just sat at an empty table, there was no menu or anything saying what food etc was on offer, the couple behind us sent both their meals back as one was cold and the other wasn't grilled properly. We waited another 5 mins or so and on one approached us so we got up and walked out. We were looking forward to a wee light lunch but it was not to be, very disappointing service.

Staying in stranraer for the weekend without the car. Decided to take the bus into portpatrick for the afternoon. I hadn't realised almost everything in the village would be closed at this time of year. We had 2 lovely toasties and drinks for lunch, cakes looked lovely but no room left. Why 3 stars? Checked the opening hours before we left. Sign On the door said open until 4.30pm. Plan was to return later in the afternoon for coffee & cake. At 3.45pm the door was locked, lights out, closed up for the day. Sign On the door deffo still said 4.30pm. If you're going to close early, at least update the opening hours on the door. As we still had over 3 hours to wait for the return bus, and the weather had taken a turn for the worse, we braved the elements and walked up the cliff steps to the Portpatrick Hotel. Not an easy job for my husband who walks with a stick. And why put a sign On the toilet door warning about the seat being loose? Either fix it or replace it. Date of visit- Friday 22nd march

Saw good reviews online so had high hopes for a tasty lunch. We ordered a Panini and a Sanwich, both of which are served with chips. The food arrived suspiciously quickly and had clearly been prepared with little care. Our chips were still raw in the middle. My partner found a hair in the coleslaw and I found one one on the underside of my Panini. Our waitress was polite enough when we mentioned this and she kindly discounted our drinks from the bill. Unfortunately, we couldn't leave quickly enough, won't be back and wouldn't recommend. Such a shame as the place has such potential.

Good to see that the lower floor is dog friendly. Have to say that the prices are relatively high... typical of Portpatrick I am afraid. Sandwiches up to ten pounds and a bowl of soup for a fiver. Yes the do offer a soup and a sandwich special and you save 50p (but then loose the bread roll!) First visit here to be honest, not sure we will be back.

Unlike the competition in Portpatrick the Port Pantry was open for business..........two of their competitors had boards outside saying they were open but when you went inside one said they weren't serving coffee until after 11am, the 2nd said they would have to do the breakfast washing up before they had any cups available - and the businesses complain they are struggling !!!!...........anyway many thanks to the Port Pantry who offered us both coffee and good quality cakes

Most of food good, but the home made chips, don't think they were anywhere near home made, and need to be fried st a higher remoerature, looked very anaemic. Seafood platter a bit under par. BUT, do never order a Flat White coffee, coffee with warm milk, not even near the taste or frothing. I am a barista, so I know what to expect. Mention it to the staff, they were not very polite nor apologetic. So not going back.

Not sure where to start, but one thing is for sure, there isn’t a single negative in this review. Home Restaurant, it’s exactly what the name suggests - Home. It’s home because when you walk in you will be made to feel at home. Friendly, welcoming and a huge smile greets you. Around 20ish tables, lovely decor and lighting, views of the kitchen and bar and small but very tempting and amazing menu with a choice for everyone. The knowledge of the food is beyond what I have experienced anywhere else. This included where, when and how sourced. Also any ingredient used in cooking and prepping the dishes. This was only my second visit and honestly I left the first time saying the exact same as I am now repeating. Absolutely outstanding in every category and manner. My advice is listen to the owner’s recommendations and let her husband in the kitchen wow you with his skills. I have been to Michelin star restaurants that having nothing on Home, if you get the chance to eat at Home in Dumfries, my advice is seize it with both hands. And if you have a spare seat going let me come too ! Home was reviewed by a very well know food critic and she rated it as a hidden treasure (my words but she absolutely loved it), I believe “refreshingly perfect” were actually Grace Dents words. She wasn’t wrong and a full 5 stars from me. James is the best chef within at least a hundred miles for sure.
