Wonderful evening at Home. Staff were genuinely enthusiastic about what they had to offer and each dish was so thoughtfully created. The Raviolo and the prawn risotto were esquisite. I look forward to my next visit.

Fantastic meal, the dishes are all very well thought out and put together. The staff explained the menu well and were very welcoming. The venue was very comfortable and I really liked the lighting on a cold and wet night!

I've eaten in good restaurants all over the world and this is probably the best one. Not pretentious, not posh, just really, really great food. The staff are also amazing, led by the wonderful Louisa. Go here and eat. You won't regret it.

There aren’t many restaurants where you can go time and again and NEVER have an off-moment. We booked the Christmas tasting menu as a last treat before our family descend. What a perfect evening. The skill of the cooking at Home, can only be matched by the care in the service. When I threatened to lick a plate, my server said, ‘Do whatever you like, you’re at Home.’ That’s truly how they make you feel - I just wish the cooking in our home was as good. The dishes were incredible: a remodelled prawn cocktail that made a classic even better; a sprout, mozzarella, and sticky date dish that we’re going to attempt to replicate for Christmas, so many perfect dishes. Home accommodate our personal preferences, even on a tasting menu (I don’t eat meat, my husband does), without it ever feeling like an imposition & always give us the warmest welcome. As Grace Dent said, ‘Home, don’t change a thing.’

Great but not if you're vegetarian. Went as a group of 4. Broadly food great including one of the best steaks I've had in years but my better half who is vegetarian didn't have the best meal. Her starter fantastic but the polenta as main was small portioned uninspiring. I actually think it's great you have only a limited choice on menu (you know it's being cooked rather than chucked out if the fridge) but the polenta it's a cheap dish at the best of times and a but dull

Read Grace Dent's review and decided to incorporate a stopover on our way to The Hebrides. Wow! Like Grace Dent all 4 of us couldn't fault anything. We're all keen cooks and are so often disappointed eating out that we usually don't bother. If we lived closer we would be here every week. Everything was seasoned perfectly and all the elements in every dish complemented each other. Such a friendly restaurant where you feel that you matter. Go!

Great food and a great atmosphere

We loved Home Restaurant. All the staff were so welcoming and took time with each table. They create great atmosphere in the restaurant. For starters we had the Fried Chicken Curry and the Cucumber Avant Guard - which is hard to describe but was so full of flavour. For mains we had the Pigs Cheeks - soft and delicious - and the Rump Steak. The steak was amazing. Cooked to perfection and melted in the mouth. We were quite full but didn't want to miss out on trying the puddings and so glad we didn't. We had the Plum Tart and Baked Cheesecake. Both more interesting than might sound and absolutely delicious. The meal was excellent value for the quality of food. We had a great meal and can't wait to go back.

LOVED our dinner at Home. The service was friendly, welcoming and unpretentious. It was like arriving at a friends house where they poured a large glass of wine and put delicious bread and olives on the table. Felt at home from the start. I had the cucumber avant guard which was hard to describe even after eating it - but the flavours were amazing. The green curry fried chicken was outstanding - So much flavour. For mains we had pig cheeks which were delicious and the rump steak. The steak was unbelievable! It was melt in the mouth and cooked to perfection. It was also one of the largest steaks have ever been served and took 2 of us to eat. Should really have taken a doggy bag as would a have made amazing sandwiches next day. Didn’t really have room for pudding but wanted to try the plum tart which was so delicious. Wine was very reasonably priced for the quality and comes by glass . Will be finding reasons to be in Dumfries on Thursday or Friday again so can return

We booked Home for a meal after receiving a voucher for a birthday gift and OMG I’m so glad we received that voucher. It was very busy when we were there but had a beautiful ambience. The service from Louisa and the staff front of house was brilliant and Louisa was very knowledgeable about the menu and talked us through everything on the menu. The food was outstanding. We had Thai chicken as a starter which was beautiful. I had a rump steak, cooked to perfection and the mashed potato was to die for. My husband had cod which he also said was amazing. Also had a side of green which we very tasty. We both had apple crumble to finish off which was beautiful. The presentation was lovely and everything looked and tasted amazing…well done to Tom and kitchen staff. We will defo be back again. Thanks team Home 😄😄

This lovely restaurant in Dumfries is owned and managed by my good friends Tom and Louisa. They are absolutely fantastic at offering freshly prepared food from locally sourced produce. Blending tasty ingredients with fresh produce they always surprise me with ever visit. Front of house staff are always very welcoming and they always provide a positive atmosphere. A top ranking restaurant in south west Scotland which deserves high praises! Well done guys 👍🏻👍🏻

This was just wonderful in every way. A meal which completely outdid recent visit to Tom Kitchen restaurant in Edinburgh - in every way. Beautiful food. Wonderful care - very personal. Unobtrusive. Honest honest. And food sourced and grown locally. I was encouraged to run my finger round the plate to pick up the last drops of sauce. 'Feel at home'. So very relaxing. The four of us dining just loved it. Not cheap but excellent quality and value for money. Worth every penny and pound! Shall return!

Incredible food once again and such a lovely relaxed friendly atmosphere

I recently visited this restaurant with my brother and we found the food to be excellent. Each course was super tasty and creatively put together. I particularly enjoyed the spicy prawn starter. The ambience is great, service very friendly and non intrusive. The overall impression is of unpretentiousness with actually very talented cooking and relaxing atmosphere

We had heard lots about this place and read a certain newspaper review. Home did not disappoint, it was in a lovely space with a really good vibe. Louisa is absolutely wonderful at the front of house stuff, made us feel very special and we warmed to her enthusiasm immediately. Perusing the menu it oozed quality and made us salivate. The ingredients on the menu are sourced very locally, with the vegetables originating in the village we were actually staying in. The cheese comes from a farm we had passed on our visits to Dumfries and Galloway many times. I started with the Paprika Prawns and my wife had Mozzarella and peaches. We obviously had to test each others dish and both were stunning creations. There was only one winner for the mains for us, the Halibut, fish cake and peas, again beautifully presented and prepared with flavours just perfect. Finally based on the first two courses we had to finish with a dessert. Chocolate cremeux and baked vanilla cheesecake again a triumph of flavours. Cooking of the very highest order. Home was busy on a Thursday night and two walk ins were lucky to get a spare table. Highly recommend you book well in advance if you want to visit Home as it’s one of the best meals we have had for many years. Thanks to Louisa and the team, you have a very special place with Home. We will definitely be back- wish we lived closer.

Great, lively, friendly restaurant. We were a party of 6 for a birthday. It was a night for the Tasting Menu. All the dishes were excellent and a few were amazing, truly amazing. Good wine, great service. Full and rather noisy!

Undoubtedly the best restaurant meal we have ever had. We had the taster menu and each course was a pleasure to eat. We didn’t want it to come to an end. From first arriving until we left we were treated with courtesy and friendliness by the proprietor and all the staff. Service was excellent and timing was perfect between courses. The restaurant was busy and some customers quite noisy which made conversation difficult sometimes and the background music could have been turned off as it was inaudible. I would have no hesitation in recommending Home as a wonderful place to eat.

Quite an interesting tasting menu experience, if you are a meat eater should be fine, the vegetarian choices instead of meat can be variable. But it is ultimately good value, the staff are attentive and caring,

Amazing food all be it a limited menu, good attentive staff, however the ambience of the place is more casual, the basic chairs just uncomfortable and the entrance is the hidden secret, no signs on the gate, we had to find three people for directions, word to the wise, it’s opposite the big car park next door left to a market and through an alley with a large rusty gate and weeds in a courtyard, will be back with a seat cushion soon

Both myself and my husband really enjoyed our 1st experience at Home Restaurant. A very warm welcome, a nice relaxed atmosphere. Both of us enjoyed our food. My husband had prawns to start then belly pork, both delicious he followed with rhubarb tart which was not what my husband expected but still tasty. I had the watermelon with feta cheese with a sprinkling of nuts, outstanding, with such simple ingredients, i then had the lamb dish, also delicious. Unlike my husband I couldn’t manage a pudding. Whilst sitting I saw both the cod dish and the steak dish served, both looked scrumptious. Would definitely visit the restaurant again if in the area, we were in the area for a weeks holiday. Not a problem for us to recommend this restaurant.

We have just returned from dinner at this hidden gem. I had the rib-eye steak (from a local, named farm), & it was probably the best steak that I have ever eaten. Extremely tender, full of flavour, & cooked exactly as I had asked for. My wife said that her fish dish was also outstanding. Pleasant, helpful, yet unobtrusive staff, welcoming decor, & prices that are not out of this world. No wonder it is the #1 rated restaurant in Dumfries.

Great addition to Dumfries restaurant offering. Tasty food in a stylish setting with friendly owner and staff. Some food feels slightly overpriced but I'm willing to pay more for the atmosphere etc. Give it a try- if you can find it!

Firstly everyone was lovely, they were great with our 2yo and even offered to cater something off the menue just for him. The food was apsalutely delisious! Bars above any other restsraunt in Dumfries. Highly reccomended. Can't wait to see what is on the menue next time.

There is in fact no such thing as Quality. There is only High Quality, or Low Quality, & it is the former that applies here. As Forrest Gump's mama might have famously said: " 'Home' is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're gonna get!" You just have NO idea what to expect food/menu-wise & the stuff that's on offer is always out of Left Fields, with local, fresh, seasonal ingredients [low food miles] cooked to perfection, presented beautifully & served with effortless & genuine warmth, enthusiasm & friendliness, which combine to give rise to sensory Nirvana. I kid you not. Eat here & you will encounter taste & texture combinations like you've NEVER experienced, regardless of however long you happened to have lived on this planet. It's up there with the posh Michelin star* stuff & yet it's not as faffy or fiddly & is WAY more affordable, which at the time of writing is particularly relevant. And with the menu changing weekly I really don't know how they do it. Imaginative? You have no idea. Mind blowing stuff. I've eaten here several times but this time went with my sister for a birthday treat, & basically we wanted to try EVERYTHING on the menu. Just couldn't choose - everything too enticing. So without any hesitation Louisa the Maitre'd arranged for the kitchen to russell us up a tasting menu & wow! - what a memorable experience. And one which precipitated my finally getting round to writing them a well deserved review. I'm afraid this is one of those reviews where the reader can't but help think that I somehow have a vested interest in this establishment. Well I don't. It's just brilliant & that's that. Perfect? No. My one criticism, which they assure me they are addressing soon, is that it's VERY, VERY LOUD in there, due to multiple hard surfaces & the lack of soft furnishings to absorb noise. This does not make for a calm eating experience, which is a great shame because it is stressful when one is having to RAISE ONE'S VOICE in order to have a conversation/order food etc, but this is a very common thing I've found in restaurants that's often overlooked and yet it's so easy to fix. Like I said, they're working on it so watch this space & for God's sake don't be an idiot and let this put you off. You'd REALLY be missing out if you did. Enjoy. [* though I can't see any reason aside from this last issue as to why they won't get one. It's only a matter of time I reckon]

Best place to eat in Dumfries. They excel with everything they cook. Beautiful food and a deeply relaxed vibe. You can tell the kitchen staff are having lots of fun. Recently had the tasting menu but our previous lunch was stunning too. Great value for the cooking, service and quality of food and local suppliers. Go.

Everything you would ever want in a family dinner. The food was undoubtedly a 20 out of 10 and the welcome and service were just as good. We had the tasting menu, before the food we were taken through the provenance of everything we were going to eat and it really made you understand the passion of the husband and wife team behind this place. Eating local is not just a gimmick it’s totally family affair x At our table we had 3 generations and the ethic of the restaurant celebrates that same togetherness, love that their kids are also involved in foraging for ingredients for the table 🥰 we will definitely be back xxx

To be honest, I was blown away! We had a fabulous time. Home Restaurant exceeded my expectations several times over. I had read some online reviews, and some descriptions published by the owners, which left me slightly conflicted. We were a party of six planning an evening out at pretty short notice, and I wanted just to make a quick phone call to a reputable restaurant and know we were booked in by the end of the call. Home Restaurant's system is not exactly complicated, but it involves texting or emailing and then waiting for someone to get back to you later to discuss options. Instant gratification won the day and I decided to go with the quicker and easier option with a rival eatery. One of our party said to me, "Why don't we try Home?". I explained why. "Leave it with me!" she said and thank God she did. Our new reservation was duly made. Now, normally when planning an evening out, I look for dinner between 7pm and 8pm, but we were now locked into a 5pm reservation which seemed a little quirky to me. Dear Reader, you might understandably think this is leading towards a negative review, but I promise you the contrary. Please persevere and read on! We arrived at the appointed 5pm to a brightly lit and pleasantly fashioned but totally empty establishment. Happily any lingering misgivings were completely swept away by the delightfully warm, friendly, effervescent welcome from the proprietor. In no time our party was ensconced at a table with drinks and menus placed in front of us. The menu had an interesting selection of dishes, each one being either original or a classic with an original twist. The service was pleasantly unhurried, although at no point did we feel we'd been kept waiting. Our party ordered dishes across the whole range of the menu selection and not one of us was disappointed with our choices. You know how often it can happen that you order something that sounds delicious, but when it finally arrives you wish you'd chosen what your friend is having. Well that didn't happen to any of us that night, I'm surprised and delighted to say. So the moral, if a Google Review is allowed to have a moral, of this story is don't be put off (as I was) by the quirky booking procedure. Just do it and I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

Really like this place... it is a little difficult to find as it has virtually no visible signs from the road and sits behind another building, and you are not always sure if it is open... however it is worth finding it. Once you open the doors the decor is lovely, very inviting with art on the walls, fairy lights on the ceiling and lots of large windows letting in light. The hand drawn menu (similar style to the mural on the outside wall, see photos) is quirky and fun and the dish names belie the amazing food. Whoever has come up with this has a talent. So far every dish I have ordered has not been quite what was expected... but I have never been disappointed. The twist on some standard meals have been both different and delightful. The only criticism is the coffee. And according to one other diner that was with us the hot chocolate wasn't the best either. I take my coffee with oat milk and I think perhaps that partly the problem is the brand of milk. The coffee itself seems overly bitter / too strong. The hot chocolate was too thick as a drink for my guest's taste. So we haven't yet settled on a drink any of us really like. But we will be back for the amazing food!

Delightful experience from start to finish. Service so friendly and helpful. Food was delicious. Our starters were spaghetti carbonara and Gucci gang chicken, all so flavourful. . My two companions had steak which was consumed with much enjoyment. My sweet potato, cashew nut and onion baji was lovely. The salted caramel chocolate pots were marvellous. All in all a great night.
